I Did Not Finish Reading 11 Books 🙅🏾📚 Q3 DNF WRAP-UP 2024

Salutations!! I dnf'd less books than usual, but more 2024 releases were misses. This summer was a struggle for me with ARC reading because most of them were DNFs. I am hoping for quarter 4 to be an improvement in quality and smaller quantity. Let me know which books y'all did not finish reading in the comments.

Thanks for watching! 🥰
I don't know if this will change your mind about the Unrelenting Earth, but I ended up reeeeeally liking where it went towards the end. I ended up feeling much better about the series towards the end the Unrelenting Earth, compared to how I felt about it at the end of The Surviving Sky
Hmm, good to know that the ending is solid. I could return to this series next year. 👀
the gasp I gusped when you said you dnf'd Paladin's Grace!! I'm glad you put a hold on the audio, I'm a big fan of Joel Richard's narration
Happy to hear that about the narrator. T. Kingfisher's novels are really good via audio for me, especially her fantasy romance.
✌ Thanks for sharing the DNF list. Yeah, I'm trying to develop a better pre-screening method when looking for the next book(s). E.g. read the Preview if available, read (with a grain of salt) lots of reviews both on YT, Goodreads, etc. Like you say, though, "DNF" isn't necessarily final. :)
I'm glad this was helpful for you 💚
I dnfed June Hur's book The Red Palace after being so excited for it because the prose and story read like "good" fanfiction which isn't my preference. But the prose in Crane Among Wolves is so much better! I love how she clearly loves history and her people. So many other Asian authors just use history, folklore and colonization as a gimmick and setting.
A Crane Among Wolves definitely has better writing than The Red Palace, so I am hoping my audiobook hold can come sooner than later.
Not so many of my faves in the thumbnail 😅😂
Oops! 😅
Saved by the DNF is a cute title. Legends & Lattes is way better than Bookshops & Bonedust and I'm not a cozy fantasy gal.
Thanks, I wanted it to sound similar to "saved by the bell" 😂 I might try Legends & Lattes in the future 👀

September was so slumpy and October is looking much the same. I finished 3 books and read about 500 pages of a 4th book that I finished early this month, totalling about 2000 pages. A 3 star, a 4 star and a 5 star. I think I DNFd 15-20 books in the past 3 weeks. I'm a summer person but it didn't hit me how much until I woke up this morning and it was dark out for another 45 min. It was so hard to get up and do anything.
Ooof, dnf-ing 15-20 in less than a month is a lot! I hope your reading momentum can shift. If not, then probably best to take it easy for a while.
I feel the same about Rakesfall! It was so interesting, but I don't think I can describe it at all!! What's your character for the Magical Readathon? I didn't participate during this equinox, but I'm working on character creation and the Novice Path now, so I should be ready for spring!
My character was an urban elf from Kerador named Uche Leanore 🧝🏾
You have me so excited to pick up Compound Fracture!! I own "Hell Followed With Us" but I haven't picked it up quite yet. Do you suggest that I read "Hell Followed With Us" before picking up "Compund Fracture"?? 📚🍂🍁
Honestly, pick up whichever interests you the most. If you want to read a thriller, then go with Compound Fracture. If you want to read a sci-fi dystopian, then go with Hell Followed With Us.
FWIW, Fall has fallen here in northern New Mexico. Cool temps, yellow aspens and trees. Nice stuff. I hope your Fall arrives soon. :)
It is starting to get here. Our trees are changing colors and getting some cooler days, but summer still wants to linger. 🍁
🍁📚🍂 So many great reads.
Thanks Leslie! 😊
@@CityGirlWriter Also, I feel like September's Libra is showing. I'm over here in my car roasting with the air conditioner on, but this morning the air was thick with fog. 🤷♀️

We SOutherners call it "False Fall" lol. I believe we're finally moving past it here in NC. The problem is, it's still hurricane season. Happy you got so much done!
I hope you and everyone around you are safe and recovering from Hurricane Helene ❤️🩹
Thanks for the video! It's my first year participating :) I'm also wanting to read The Reformatory and Delicious Monsters and trying for multiple locations. I'm a multi-book mood reader so we'll see what happens. I've finished The Jumbies and The Dark Thirty for Ruby's Krewe Park. I'm reading Fledgling right now for "of the night" vibes and The Good House for Bayou Haunted House.
Sounds like you got a good selection of books. Good luck! 🖤
Definitely checking out the 100 years of War on Palestine. Loved Things Fall Apart. Want to collect the other 2 books that go with that. You have some really good books.
Thanks 😊

I won't be participating this year, but I definitely wanna join in next year! 🖤 I'm v intrigued about Immortal Dark, I hope to get to that this month!
I hope you enjoy Immortal Dark 🖤
Whew two locations?! You can do it!! And you’ve got some great books on your TBR
Thanks 😊🖤
I'm reading for Bayou Haunted House too! I'll also be reading Model Home, The Icarus Girl , & My Soul To Keep this month. 🏚 Looking forward to seeing how you enjoy The Reformatory! It's heavy but I absolutely loved it!!! 💚💜🖤
Hoping these books are wins 🖤
This year i’m reading for Joe’s Library. The Reformatory is also on my list for historical reference category. I’ve heard that it’s a long one so I’ll be hybrid reading throughout the month.
Thinking about going for Joe's Library next year. A hybrid read sounds like a good idea.
Blood at the Root is on my shelf! My daughter read that book so fast! I'm hoping to sneak in a read of Blood at the Root next year.
Hopefully you will enjoy it whenever you get into it 😊
@@CityGirlWriter I'm finally going to read Out There Screaming this month.
There's so much I enjoyed about The Reformatory, but the pace felt a bit slow and had to speed listen to the book on audio.
Definitely a slow book but excited to get back into it 🖤
So exciting! I'm also reading for Saint Treme Graveyard! 🪦My Soul to Keep is also on my TBR! I'm starting with Frenzied by Brandon Massey though, already 40pgs in and it's got me on the edge of my seat! 🔪
I have not read anything by Brandon Massey, but I have heard great things about this work. Very curious to hear your thoughts on that book 👀
@@CityGirlWriter I've also read Nana and omg that's a trip! So creepy, so fun, I still think about it even though I read it like 2 years ago hahaha 😅
I so enjoy your commentaries. And, frankly, I enjoy you. Thanks!
Thank you for the lovely comment 💜

The Inheritance of Orquidea Divina is one of my favorite books for the fall season! Also, my physical therapist has been making me walk on a treadmill while reading and so I'm currently reading Outdrawn for that lol 🍂🍁

Good job with tag. The Undead Truth of Us is another interesting grief horror. U have some good book mentions.
Thanks! 🖤
So glad I found your channel and your commentaries! Subscribed. Though I'm more of a sci-fi reader now, I've read fantasy over the years, too. I'd read and watched a number of reviews of The Spear Cuts Through Water, all of which praised the book as being exceptional. So, I've started it, though have been set back due to time conflicts. For me it has a bit of a slow burn start as the background and characters are introduced. I will continue, in part thanks to your thorough review. I like your presentation style very much. 👍
Happy to hear that my review was helpful 😊
Love a good rapid fire. 🔥
Truly the best kind of tag video 😊
Me listening to you say the words: Bildungsroman, Kitsch, Übermensch and Zeitgeist: *giggles in German*
On a scale of 1 to 10, how badly did I pronounce those words? 😂😅
@@CityGirlWriter maybe a 6-7 when ten is very good xD Your pronunciation generally wasnt bad, I feel like u were just missing or mixing up some letters and Ü ist obv difficult to pronounce too. Zeitgeist was crazy tho 😂

Hey! 👋My summer reading experience was lovely. The Promise Boys by Nick Brooks and So Let Them Burn by Kamilah Cole were both YA and kept my attention. There's Always This Year is written by my favorite author, Hanif Abdurraqib so I felt extra spoiled this summer. The only bummer was Womb City. It's a good book, I just didn't like how the world building was handled. Oh yeah, I gave The Emperor and the Endless Palace 4/5 stars, but the person I buddy read it with gave 2/5. 😆
Glad to hear So Let Them Burn was good. I have heard amazing things about There's Always This Year. I wish Womb City was better. Very happy to hear you enjoying The Emperor and the Endless Palace. Too bad the person you buddy read it with didn't enjoy it. Sounds like you had a great reading summer!
@@CityGirlWriter I did! And also, that fox spirit scene was wild. 🦊🤭😂
@@booksgurrsandpurrs 🤣🤣🤣
I had so much fun reading The Dead Cat Tail Assassins!
😁😁😁
My summer reading was pretty good but september's hasn't so far. I read 50 pages across 10 days... July was the best month with 13 books (out of 25 this summer) and I had a lot of 5 stars. I also had a ton of DNFs.
I am struggling with reading in September as well 😔
you did better than me because i only ready like 3 books this summer. imma do better in the fall!
3 books is still good 👍🏾 I hope you can read more in autumn 🍂💙

I‘m so excited for compound fracture, the description sounds so interesting and i recently read the spirit bares its teeth and it was so goooood
Andrew Joseph White does not miss! I hope you Compound Fracture 💚
Got a couple in common with you! I hope to read Blood Over Bright Haven and Immortal Dark. For the upcoming Bindery Books releases, I’m interested in House of Frank. From my physical TBR I hope to finish the 13 Treasures series (middle grade fantasy). And lastly, I hope to read the Bonesmith duology!
Sounds like a great TBR! I read Bonesmith last year and loved it. Waiting for my hold on Ghostsmith to arrive at my library. I hope you enjoy the House of the Dead duology.
