YOU are the "Wise Old Man"
Hello, hello! I am back with my first video in which I actually read from a written script. I am also trying to push things towards being a bit shorter, and more concise.
This video is very general, and non-specific, which is not exactly my strong suit. Writing a script made me realize how low-key cringe-y my brand of pseudo-intellectual social commentary can be. So, the question becomes: Do I fight the cringe? Or defeat the part of me that cringes?
Thanks for watching, this was a fun and simple little video to make. It's another entry in my catalog of "Lessons I wanted to teach my students when I was a teacher, but couldn't because it was just way out of my field".

Just a content warning: This video talks about some heavier topics, including suicide, depression, self harm, and dealings with illness, and disease. If you've dealt with, or are dealing with those things, keep the people you love close, and work with as many experts or wise and trusted people as you can. I'm just a random person on the internet at most, do not take my word for gospel.

    i am a SUBSTITUTE teacher with 7 years of experience in central Florida, and in St. Louis, Missouri. One day I thought I could make a list of SHENANIGANS the kids pull in the classroom. I figured I could list about 50 or 75 of their RUDE behaviors. WRONG! I came up with MORE THAN TWO HUNDRED of them... and the list never stops growing. Yesterday, a sheriff of Volusia county, Florida arrested an 11 year old boy for making 50 false threats to shoot up his school. That's item number 239 on my list of 200 shenanigans! I am an OLD MAN age 69. Back when I went to middle school we had 4 or 5 rude behaviors we did in class.We chewed gum... and threw paper airplanes... and that's about it. NOW there are kids doing hundreds of crazy things in the classroom. It is way beyond childish jokes. It is EVIL. And the administration failing to ADMINISTER CONSEQUENCES to the misbehaved students is not helping the situation.

    One example of a lack of students' rights I see: The right to fair trial and punishment. I often see teachers punish a large group to avoid the effort of finding a perpetrator. Or they also use group punishment as a mental manipulation to socially punish a student for acting out. They also punish based on here-say or on suspicion. I've seen test grades get canceled because one student falsely reports another. Or students get punished for trying to defend themselves. I've seen punishments laid out for simply being within the vicinity of an infraction. Either way, this is violating human rights and has some serious mental effects on students. I'm glad that you, as a teacher, are looking at student rights as a current issue. Simply respecting the rights of your students will help to gain you respect and trust among them.

    to me, everything has really been exponentially ramping up. Time, energy, and consciousness itself seems to be changing ever rapidly and globally at large its easy to see massive changes happening faster and faster. It's exhausting trying to keep up with it all really, but the capacity for it is there none the less. I have barely any concept of who I wanted to be previously, just exploring as many corners of interest as I can to the point where I've kind of splintered apart along the way. I think if 12 year old knew me today he would be horrified and overwhelmed.

    I am only 20 years old and I just started a psychology degree. I feel like at our young age we can only work towards being the person we want to be, I don't think it's possible to be the person 12 year old wanted you to be not because you are a failure but because you are a different person. I don't really want to be the person a 12 year old wants to be. I read a quote a while back and I can't remember where but it was about the moomin books which have this awesome mysterious vagabond named snufkin who most of thr readers admire because he is quiet, keeps to himself and most importantly does what he wants. there is another character named moomin papa who is the father of the main characters who spends all his time trying to write novels and build a great life for his family, he us constantly spouting wisdom and taking on new projects but he fails so often and ends up just being quite silly most of the time. the quote goes "so many people want to be snufkin bur as you work towards it your realise you have just become moomin papa" the quote came into my head during this video.

      The cool part is that those moments of clarity can come to us at any time. The dice landed on 12 for me for some reason, and hopefully they'll land somewhere again. But it really does come what feels like randomly. I say it's most important to just listen to your own feelings and take them seriously. Could be at 35, could be at 15. Until teachers are paid a realistic salary and are allowed to do the jobs they went to college for; Until we move beyond the agrarian culture of the 20's, Until we move beyond the fact that we are expected to parent the students, meet not only the students needs, but the parents needs, Until we are treated as the professionals we are, nothing will change.

    • @TheQuietPartisLoud
      @TheQuietPartisLoud 8 дней назад

      I'm honestly thinking of making a whole video just on the juxtaposition of "Professionalism" in teaching. We get trained like professionals, and deserve to be treated like professionals, but we keep getting handed the responsibilities of a DIFFERENT profession (Caregivers), when in reality we're supposed to freaking teach! And then collective communities judge teachers as not being serious enough as educators when it was THEM that gave us the jobs of babysitters (in some cases) in the first place. It's a whole thing, but things sure as shit won't get better until we're allowed to be professionals, and get treated like it, too.

    The major issue is that education is in the hands of The State and must be taken back. As a black male math teacher who is also an anarchist who teaches in the very community I was raised in I have my own idea of what I call Black Liberatory Education (Black Historical Reality + Anarchist Framework + Education) in which the end goal is to build intellectuals who are born and raised in our communities through the use of a new pipeline in education to community that serves as the negation to the school to prison pipeline.

    I think that educational needs to be more personal, more one to one. As someone who is in highschool (no, not in Amerika) you have to do a LOT of things that you don't find intresting or inspiring, and a lot of valueble energy (and time) is lost. I think that the solution would be to have some kind of a program that the kids can choose from, so what they have at school alliance more with their intrests. It would also help make school more exciting and make the long hours you spend there actually worth it. Note to myself: (This took way to long to type😭😭, I really need to work on my English)

      It's a "Senville LETO Series Mini Split Air Conditioner Heat Pump" that you can get on Amazon. I found it pretty easy to install, but I followed a guide here on RUclips very, very closely. If you go through with pulling a vacuum and letting the refrigerant flow yourself, you won't get access to the complete warranty. So I took that risk. If you want to make sure you have a complete warranty you have to get the card signed by a licensed HVAC. Also, in terms of size the outside condenser is kind of big. Bigger than I thought it would be honestly. But I can tell you now that with insulation In the truck it can get the inside down to 62° F. Which is literally better than the actual house we rent.
