Coober Pedy (Adeliade to Darwin, Chapter 2)

Today, Coober Pedy is a world renown opal town. But before the arrival of white fellas, the original owners of the land were the Arabana people.
The name of the town was decided on, in 1920 and is thought to have been derived from the words in the Kokatha language, kupa piti, often translated as "whitefella" and "hole in the ground", or guba bidi, "white man's holes", relating to the mining activities of the European settlers.
My time in Coober Pedy was very limited but in this Vlog I have given some of my thoughts on what I saw, as well as some, (hopefully correct) facts on the town, both historical and present day.

Earlier this year, (July 2024) I drove a relocation campervan straight through the guts of Australia. I took 8 days to cover the 3,000 kilometers from Adeliade to Darwin with an extra 530 km, round trip segway to Uluru. Here is chapter 1 of my adventures. Adeliade to Coober Pedy. The world famous opal mining town and the place where Mad Max was filmed.

Echidnas & Koalas at Morialta Falls

Morialta Conservation Park, has many trails to walk. With beautiful views, waterfalls and native fauna. On this particular day I didn't come across any kangaroos as is often the case, but I did spot lots of scattering skinks and lizards, and a koala or two, as well as a much rarer spotting of an echidna. A lovely way to enjoy an afternoon walk in nature.

Parco Fausto Noce was dedicated to Fausto Noce, a WW1 hero. He was a pilot in the Sardinian air force. He died at 24, in a plane crash.
