thank you very much for this tool
No disrespect intended, but I literally cannot see a difference between on and off. I'm assuming that this is an issue with RUclips?
I assume you mean in the skin tone section? Yes, it's a very subtle adjustment indeed and most of the difference has unfortunately fallen victim to the RUclips compression. Good thing is, if you're interested, you can get the demo and try it for yourself :)
Hi Max, I emailed you about my account issue as I can't download the Density update , can you sort it out for me please.
I sent you an email. Should all be sorted now. :)
Thanks for covering order of operation / dependencies. Those nuances are really helpful.
Hey dude, I've never thought about making LUTS despite my experience grading because the means of making them CONSISTENT is difficult. I absolutely respect the amount of effort you put into these DCTLS, i just tried out one of your freebies and I will be purchasing all of them no questions asked.
thanks so much for your kind words!
For some reason this DCTL is not showing in resolve, where as other third party DCTLs are. Any ideas? I needed to restart resolve a couple of times in addition to updating the LUT folder. Thanks, looking forward to trying this.
Hmm that's very odd. What system are you on?
Thank you for the tool, photographic effects are always useful!
you currently have at least 3 different dctls that control the density/lum of individual colors so im wondering which dctl tool has the best latest code for density for the best cleanest film like results, as all of the different packges you offer are a bit confusing because im sure the math and code in each ones are different and newer and older for technically the same thing they suppose to do.
IRIS Density Pro is the the most advanced in terms of features and versatility. Both this one and IRIS Density Pro are equally clean. I'm currently working on a new update for all IRIS DCTLs which will make them even cleaner and better. So the IRIS DCTLs will always be the best ones. This one is just more affordable due to the fewer features but otherwise uses similar math.
@@IridescentColor your density v2 dctl offers highlight preservation and a depth slider. I have not seen them in your iris pro presentation. Is there something comparable in the iris pro density bundle?
@@juusch Yes. The "weight" slider preservation of highlights and the "Preserve Neutrals" Slider does a similar thing to the depth slider.
@@IridescentColorthanks for the answer. In what ways do preserve neutrals differ from the depth slider, and weight from preserve highlights?
@@juusch Depth slider uses a different curve with a different, flatter response towards higher sats, that also happens to preserve neutrals more, while preserve neutrals specifically affects neutrals while not affecting high sat at all. Weight is just more flexible as you can fine tune it with the pivot slider.
also how does the DENSITY DCTL V2 compare in density results to IRIS DENSITY PRO DCTL if you do the same action? which one will give the cleanest film like organic results for color density?
in the TETRA+ package does the sliders of color lum include the new DENSITY DCTL V2 code to give the same results? or the results are gonna be different if I use the red lum slider in the TETRA+ vs in the DENSITY DCTL V2?
Tetra+ uses the same math for density as this one in tetrahedral mode, albeit without the extra sliders.
hey :) how you will compare it to IRIS Density Pro DCTL? Thanks Marceli
IRIS Density Pro has a lot more minute control over the hue selection, more features like negative density, and overall more flexibility. This one is just as clean and will do fine if you just want to dial in some clean density and don't need the extra control. Hope that helps! :)
Thanks 👍
wonderful!
is this a free upgrade for those who bought the previous version?
yes
@@IridescentColor i think i bought it without making an account on the website because i can't log in? it doesnt' recognise my email if i try lost my password. but i do have the email saying i bought the original
@@DigitalGenki Yes sounds like you bought it without making an account. Just shoot me an email and I can sort you out.
looks good
Thanks!
Will there a pro version of this dctl ?
The separately available IRIS Density Pro will remain the pro option for density. I'm currently working on updating the entire IRIS range, so there will be improvements coming to that one as well, although there is no ETA yet.
@IridescentColor What newer more features will this Density Pro DCTL will have?
Is it as good as mononodes or Kaur’s?
If in doubt, try it for yourself: ko-fi.com/s/26ab1b213c
@@IridescentColor i want it
how will this differ from davincis new color slice tool?
Different math. Not sure if this tool is colorspace aware, but the colorslice tool needs to be color space mapped
@@CartyCantDancehow can it be mapped?!
Color Slice tool is great but not really suitable for look (i.e. timeline) level adjustments, as the qualification is too aggressive and some of the other features can introduce artefacts very easily. This DCTL uses much gentler curves and cleans up skin tones by masking off low saturations rather than skin hue, which is a cleaner way to do it. It also just uses different math that looks different.
The color slice tool introduces a lot of noise fast. The math behind the color slice tool is wonky.
@@Huttersvuur agreed. The smoother transients between hues is superior in Mononodes.
I love this density too. However in V.1 I noticed that if I try and add density to green (trees) the yellow portions were slightly affected, leading to heavy artifacts in some cases. Do you think the smoother falloff in V.2 will fix this; it seems its would.
Hard to say for sure without seeing the individual case, but the smoother falloff (and the depth slider) should definitely help. If you own V1, best way to find out is to get your free update and try it for yourself (or grab the demo on ko-fi). Will be curious to hear if you think the new one improves things :)
@ I have V1 but I’m struggling to find my account info lol. Should not be an issue :)

Hi! Great work. I own V1. How do I download the new version?

It is early days, but so far I am finding this DCTL helpful when I have mixed lighting and skin tones are all messed up.
That's great to hear! Glad you're finding it useful. :)
I am thankful God made you this smart man, thank you.
Hi Max, Very beautiful work and the tools are excellent!! thanks for sharing !!!
Thank you so much, and it's my pleasure!
So useful!
Great explanation. Thank you for the work put into this!
Dude I hope you recognize just how much you're doing for us. It's actually insane that you would go so far to create this for us and making it free. Really love ya man.
Thank you for your kind words! :)
Muito obrigado
Is there a way to buy only the split tone custome?
Currently not, I'm afraid.
Awesome stuff man, and its free . Dang Can it be exported as Lut?
Sure it can!
I am on version 1.3 and i have a weird problem. In black shadow areas it introduces single white pixels. When you disable clamp input they become much more, but still with clamp input enabled there are occasionaly some. I only noticed it because there was a gaussian blur node after it which made some really weird artifacts on those pixels.
Hmm that's very odd. I've never seen a case where these artefacts remained after clamping unless the node was in an odd blend mode by accident. I'm guessing you're on windows? NVIDIA or AMD?
thank you so much, this is amazing
What is the different between Density DCTL and Density Pro?
density pro is a lot "safer" in that it has more guardrails built in to make it better suited for timeline level looks. it also has "negative density" which bleaches out colors and the ability to protect lower sat colors like skin tones. There are also three different versions with more control over hue angle/radius. Plus, instead of selecting different methods you can smoothly morph between them.
I want filmic contrast dctl free 😂😂😂😂😂😂
bro just a really good person, thanks
Thank you for your kind words!
What an amazing tool! Looks like a premium tool, but... for free!?
Thank you so much Kaur! Yeah, honestly idk, I was feeling nostalgic so I figured, for old times' sake, I'll make another free one… I should probably stop though lol…
Thank you, could you make a 'selective color' DCTL like photoshop, although it's suitable for print, i use it to change color (for examble i subtract yellow on blue sky). I use Color-Presets to choose color, use Printer-light now, it's not convenient.
Interesting idea! I'll definitely have a think about it.
@@IridescentColor Thank you so much.
Awesome DCTL Max! Keep up the great work!
Cheers Max! Good to see you here!

EDIT: Max responded within hours and got my issue resolved with a new version of the DCTL! I highly recommend it! ~~Hey, fantastic tool -- I just purchased it and am having some issues with it not functioning on my setup. I sent you an email!~~
Thanks for letting me know! Got your email and have just responded. I'm very hopeful we'll be able to fix this :)
Time to ask someone for an early Christmas present
I'm thinking about buying this for sure. I was gonna get dehancer but this looks like a great purchase here.
@@TZOBIEntertainment It's worth noting that dehancer and this bundle offer somewhat different things - Dehancer is very much in the "film emulation" camp where the goal is to (theoretically) faithfully emulate characteristics of analog film (including textural effects like halation and grain which I don't currently offer DCTLs for), whereas this bundle is maybe less suitable for a full on film emulation but more powerful and flexible when it comes to exerting authorship over your color look. Some tools, especially the Filmic Tone Curve and Split Tone DCTLs are of course borrowing from film but are not designed to recreate all the characteristics of a specific film stock. These DCTLs also may require a little more practice and patience to master. So definitely good to be aware of the differences so that you purchase the tools that serve you best.
@IridescentColor Thank you for this detailed response. Honestly, everyone is trying to mimic film with their emulators but the truth is that digital can never emulate film accurately. It just can't be done. I'm looking for something that complements my workflow and provides me with something different as opposed to everyone else. I bought Tetra + from you the other day and it's a great addition to my node tree to be honest. I have a few other dctls from different companies that add to my node tree instead of replacing everything. I downloaded the demos for these dctls but for some reason they were not doing anything when I was testing them out and I'm not sure why but I'll try them again. I'm using the Studio version so I'm not sure what I did wrong.
@@TZOBIEntertainment Very fair points! Odd that they weren't working for you. Could be that the download files got corrupted, which does happen once in a while. If you get around to it I'd be grateful if you could redownload and let me know if they still don't work. Would be helpful to know system specs too. DCTLs very rarely have system-specific issues luckily but I've heard of a few cases where AMD GPUs caused problems.
JP2499 has been an absolute dream. I'm upset that i didnt find it earlier. On my recent grades in the last month, I've been able to get better color separation, with no breaking of the image. Its been really helpful.
I agree, it's such a game changer and provides both a better experience grading under *and* better results.
Hmmm i think is a preference choice jp2499 is great if your looking for dark colors and warm hues. I think some colorist like cullen, darren, qazi and most colorist are gatekeeping that dctl 😜
Great video as always, other dctl from JP that I like to use is his agx transform

The Split tone segment in the Contour DCTL by Cullen Kelly looks exactly the same as your DCTL. Did you collaborate with him on that? I think you released your DCTL first though.
This one is an improved version of the free one I released a year or so ago, which iirc was inspired by Cullen quickly giving a peek of his own DCTL (which was not publicly available) in a video a good while ago. I'm pretty sure said DCTL was the direct precursor to the split module in Contour. A lot of my stuff is heavily influenced by Cullen's principles tbh.
