Were the horses & ponies in or out? Always a TOTAL nightmare here with Hurricanes & Winter storms. General consensus is outside. I've let them do both (have access to their stables) so they choose. Then it's a case of a lot of prayers & worries.

I sorry that you went through this, I have been through the same situation, but mine wasn’t as lucky as yours. I ended up in a wheelchair for 15years. But I am back up and riding again now. I got told that I would never ride again, but I didn’t want to take that. So I wanted to prove the doctor wrong.

Agree with you having Mazie to help out with the equines. I'm the same with my dogs. Have pet sat for 40 years and have called it quits! I have taken care of other folks' animals like I would for my own. Only problem has been time, and I've felt mine over the years have got the shaft. I also don't trust people with mine. I've seen people do certain things/routines with their animals that doesn't gel with me. Have you thought about getting a BHA teaching license? Going on full into equestrian care? Just thoughts. I should have taught, and I'd still be probably really good. I actually watching you can critique you. Shame about the Dressage. It's not about the fancy stuff/KUR it's good flatwork and balance. It could save your neck or in sadly your case ankle. Think about it. Just put a sound system up and play your favourite music to walking & trotting Mittens & Dan. Lastly, I agree we don't find animals they find us!

Mollie I am so sorry. Horrific! I don't think you are cold per say but in shock. I had a nasty car accident many years ago and felt cold but shook for a good 48 hours from shock. Rest, follow doctors' orders and that includes your Mum and keep us posted even if it's from the sofa or bed and just for 2 minutes. Wish I could help xoxoxo

I rode one horse, and I think this was the second time on him? A total MANIAC!!!!!!! Rode in front so as not to upset the little kids on ponies but he wanted to chuck me so bad! Came around Tattenham Corner and it wasn't just bucking & rearing but the worst corkscrewing. I hope you know what I am talking about? Got behind everyone after that to chill him but no luck especially as strings of racehorses were on their final practice run. The owner trusted me much and these were the days without cell phones, and I went solo on my way. More nightmares with him but calmed him down for a quiet hack back on a country path with no roads or traffic. Alas, we came upon a dead rabbit. He would not jump over it or go around it for a good 20 minutes. I was not turning back for another route! We did eventually get around the rabbit, but he jigged all the way onwards. Then unfortunately I did have to do some road work. Had to slow traffic from behind and forward to give a wide berth as he dished out. Yes, we got back to the stables safe & sound, but I was exhausted! I think your Mum might get a chuckle from this.

I think the more times you go out with Mitten's things will improve. Having said that I've had a few that haven't. Cough! I think your plans with Dan are smart & solid. Totally agree. Would some calmer paste help her? Very much looking forward to your next outing with her.

P.S. We would love a 3-vehicle car port for our 2 cars & tractor. The ready built ones have got very expensive. I'm wondering if hubby & I can build our own. Your Grandpa & Uncle have been an inspiration to seriously look into this.

Really enjoyed this and thrilled! Major cheers to your Grandpa & Uncle for building Dawn's stable. I know that wasn't that easy especially digging post holes. Back in 2021 we decided to try and fence the whole of our property for us and our dogs (another acre). We did splurge and got a great deal on a Kubota BX2380 Compact Tractor with a post Hole Digger. Even with that it has been hard digging holes due to rocks, roots and hard clay. On quite a few it has been using a clamshell post hole digger, digging bar and softening the ground with water. All the wooden posts are concreted in (that's my job mixing the concrete!) Some of the fencing that can be seen in the front is post & rail and when we get further into the woods wire, metal posts with some wooden posts interspersed to strengthen the fence. We've even built a 4' high wooden jump for the deer though they can jump any fencing. Not completed yet as we have to stop in the summer months due to heat. Again, to your Grandpa & Uncle a fantastic job!

How is he to long rein? when my horse done his suspensory ligament, he used to barge and bite me when i was doing his in hand rehab and it was getting dangerous, so i started long reining him and it was so much safer, he then couldnt bite me and we also had more control because of having the 2 reins on him, also have you tried the premier performance calmer? this is the only calmer i have found that works well x
