1989-1997. M
My wife and I shall be travelling on this route in January .. on our way from Edinburgh to Aberdeen. It'll be dark though by the time we arrive in Aberdeen (17:06) but we should see some of the east coast scenery, as our train leaves Edinburgh at 14:31. Why are we going in January I hear you ask .. total hotel bill for 2 nights in Inverness followed by 2 in Glasgow was only £150, the same hotels in early August would have been £585 I'm sure you already know .. Steve M (YT) lives in Montrose
@@brianmorrison9168 I fully understand. Winter can be beautiful anyway. I’ve been in Aberdeen in February before. It’s still nice, even though it’s cold.
Very impressive ! I wonder how many LEGO bricks were used here. LEGO has certainly changed since I was a kid .. think it was just blocks, doors, windows and roof tiles then, but that was in the 1960s. Funnily enough, I actually preferred Meccano
It was a joy spending a day in Legoland 😊
The granite city ...
@@johncopeland3826 Sure is 😊
You certainly got some good weather for your visit. That looks like quite a peaceful cruise, upstream from Windsor. Next time you are in London, try a river trip from Westminster Bridge to Greenwich, which will take you under Tower Bridge, the bridge some folk mistakenly refer to London Bridge.
Thanks for comments 😊 We had a few raindrops, but not on the first day, when this video was recorded. I’ve taken cruise from Westminster to Tower of London, but not all the way to Greenwich. The Thames is fascinating. I’ve also been sitting drinking a few beers outside a pub i Wolvercote (near Oxford), watching the Thames floating by. So different from the Thames in London or Windsor.
What a beautiful day at Whitley Bay Beach! The views are stunning, and the vibe of the place feels so relaxing. It’s amazing to see how lovely it looks in August-definitely a perfect spot for a summer getaway. Thanks friend for sharing this wonderful video! We join your channel! Like 2🌊☀🏖✨
@@fuoridalsentiero Very well said 😀 Thanks for watching and the nice comments.
Vi har vært der nå ei uke uten noe problemer
The scaffolding is still up at the Lighthouse today (2nd Oct) .. the work was supposed to be finished mid September .. so something has gone wrong !
Great video Trond and many thanks for the mention. Yes, Whitley Bay is quite a nice place and, as you mentioned, it used to be a popular tourist spot, especially for folk coming down from Scotland .. it was even referred to as the 'Scottish fortnight' After many years of decline, vast improvements have been made recently. The next step is to finish off the repair work to the lighthouse and finally they must try make the North Sea a little warmer (that may not even be possible) Regards from W/Bay
@@brianmorrison9168 Future is bright in Whitley Bay, I think. I certainly look forward to visit the lighthouse, next time.
@8:54 That's a very handsome man in the blue shirt. Just a pity one of our neighbours spoiled the surprise.
@@kholiwemorrison5878 🫢
So it was the lady who passed me on the right hand side, who said «morning, Brian»?
So I guess you won't be staying here again .. all of the family sick 🤮isn't too good. Hope everybody recovered quickly. At least you didn't get food poisoning in WB 😀
@@brianmorrison9168 No, we are definitely not going back there. It's a bit of a shame, because it's a nice hotel, but we can't take the risk of getting sick again. It was at the last minute that we recovered enough to get home. Hehe, no I didn't get sick from the food in Whitley Bay or Newcastle. We had many good meals during that trip.
@0:17 the big gate on the right is the entrance to my old school .. many years ago. I normally used the other school gate though, the one opposite Tynemouth Station as I traveled to/from school on the train. Although the same route, that was before the Metro trains came into operation.
I think my wife and I will be travelling to Inverness in January, via Aberdeen. There's a direct LNER train from Newcastle, or we could go to Edinburgh a little earlier on TransPennine Excpress. A first-class journey from EDB - ABD would be nice, having a meal and drinks, while crossing the two famous bridges on the way. We'll then catch the ScotRail service to Inverness. Coming back we can see the Highland scenery, as we travel from Invernes to Glasgow, via Aviemore, Perth etc. Another first-class journey could follow, GLQ-NCL which will only be about £42 (for the two of us)
@@brianmorrison9168 1st class, sounds lovely. I’ve never travelled 1st class before. But I think I should, just say I’ve done it 😃 Both journeys sounds stunning. Both coast and highland scenery 😀
@2:58 that used to be a very popular paddling pool in the 60s and 70s. As a kid in the scouts we had a soap box derby there .. one of our rival scrout groups drove their go-kart into the pool. .. that was probably in the early 70s
I can imagine
Experience of Beautiful water riding. Amazing 👍

Beautiful 👍

Very excellent collection. Place is differently very Beautiful. Excellent
@@trailwayt9H337 Yes, Newcastle is certainly a city I enjoy visiting and keep coming back to 😀
Video was very Beautiful.. It is a new different experience given to me. Excellent
@@trailwayt9H337 Thanks. Glad you enjoyed it 😀
Great video. When the new Metro trains come into service, there'll be no front seat for passengers, so this type of video will no longer be possible. @7:34 They are building an additional platform here, which will be used for the new Northumbeland Line route, from Newcastle to Ashington. It'll be operated by Northern Rail and it's expected to be open by the end of 2024. Some of the stations will not be operational until mid 2025.
Wish I could sit all day filming both lines with a front view. Limited time and a bad shoulder, so I am happy with this video 😊
The old Rex Hotel is being converted into a care home. As a child I remember being told that The Beatles actually stayed at the Rex
A beautiful location for a care home, overlooking the North sea 😊
@@Trond_travels Funnily enough, an elderly neighbour of ours moved in to the Rex Hotel full time many years ago. She said she was too old to live by herself, but the thought of being in a care home worried her. She didn't need medication or anything, she just wanted somebody to cook and clean for her. The Rex Hotel was actually cheaper than a care home and she said, every day there are new people to talk to and the view is fantastic. The street was made one-way maybe a year ago with a cycle path added. I don't think I have ever seen any cyclist use it. Cycling up would be a struggle, it's one long slow incline and anyway, folk want to cycle along the seafront .. heading for the Lighthouse, or Tynemouth
@@brianmorrison9168Amazing 😊
Beautiful scenery, It is on my list to visit Norway to vlog coastal towns there, so if you see a man with a bowler had, you will know who it is 😜
@@GentByTheSea Yes, it’s a very different coast in Norway compared to the UK. Not so many people around with bowler hats 🫢
I am still yet to travel on the Tyne and Wear Metro
I think the Metro is amazing. Easy getting around the areas. Some of the stations are pretty amazing too, having pubs, cafes and even markets😊
I am always amazed at how dirty the Metro windows are .. I don't think I have ever seen a clean one. Maybe the new Metro trains, expected to be in service at the end of 2024 will have self-cleaning windows.
@@brianmorrison9168 Hopefully yes. I did some filming sitting in the «front», the day before. From Whitley Bay towardsMonkseaton etc. Those windows were a bit cleaner than this.
This used to be my favorite hotell as a kid, when I used to go there around 25-30 years ago. And now I have thought about taking my kid there sometime. However, not sure with all this food poison, but maybe it's just the buffett?
@@eriknordqvist9016 I would stay out of the buffet. If you want to stay at the hotel, I recommend eating out at restaurants 😎
@Trond_travels when I stayed there ss a child, we usually only ate breakfast at the restaurant. The rest of the time in Puerto Rico, Maspalomas and so. But I really wanted to try the all inclusive, sice it's so easy. But, it's not this year that we'll go and next year it's Thailand. However, maybe winter 2025.
@@eriknordqvist9016 I understand. Well, I strongly don’t recommend it, for all the ressons mentioned in the video. It used to be our favorite hotel too, but after our last visit, we will never return
Crossing time Daløy-Nåra was 20 min's.
@@Decemberface1 Thanks for info 😊

Such a great weather to take a walk! Thanks for sharing!
What makes Volk's Electric Railway a unique experience compared to other train rides, and what were some of the highlights of your journey? Also, are you on Facebook / Insta? I'd love to connect and hear more about your experiences and insights! Let's keep in touch!
I think this video speaks for it self really, to a certain degree. Of cource, to experience in real life is even better. But it is unique, I think, the railway is open and the route runs on a beach. Thanks for watching 😀
Oh yes, I remember this wee train now .. I was actually on it in the early 70s
The marina has so many beautiful boats. Everything is taking care of their boats and it's great to see.
Agree. Relaxing atmosphere
Another good video. I remember visiting Brighton in the early 70's after a holiday on the isle of Wight. My mum's school friend lived in Brighton who she hadn't seen for many years. The marina construction work had just started at the time and the general thoughts was that it would be a great asset to the town .. as it indeed turned out to be. A similar marina was constructed at Bangor, near Belfast .. when I went there as a child (2 or 3 times a year) there was no marina, just a small harbour for fishing boats only
The marina is really enormous. Nice area. My plan was to take the bus to Rottingdean and walk the undercliff walk back to the marina. But I felt a few raindrops, so I didn’t take that risk. Next time I will.
@@Trond_travels Funny, you mention Rottingdean .. that was where my mum's friend lived, so we had a couple of days there.
Lovely place ❤
I dont really understand why you came at this hotel after you got "sick"
The reason for that is that after the frist time, we didn’t understand that we got sick of food on the hotel. We had meals other places also that time. We could have got sick from the food at another restaurant. But this last time we had all our meals at the hotel.
Lovely vlog. I need to book a flight to Ireland soon 😮
A beautiful coastline in Ireland. Many lovely places.
That's the causeway built by the giant 'Finn McCool' who wanted to get over to Scotland .. the other end is at Fingal’s Cave
We could see Scotland in the distance (just, because of the clouds). What a tourist magnet this is, but I can truly understand why. Wish I could spend a whole day there. It was a nice pub nearby too.
Crikey ! I thought The Shambles in York had narrow lanes .. some of these are even narrower. You had some good weather too, which always makes life better. Raining today in WB
Sure is, but the Shambles I find more cozy. The weather was nice, a little cold though.
Quite an impressive station. I don't know why, but I didn't think it would be as big as it is .. but looking on the internet, it seems Brighton is ranked 25th in the list of UK Busiest Stations .. shockingly, Newcastle is only 105th .. think I better move south
Brighton is an easy station also. I remember the station in Edinburgh, we got lost, could not find our train. We went in circle and came back to the same spot.
@0:51 seems quite a nice train, it just annoying though, when folk put their feet on the seats. My wife and I have just returned from a short break in Glasgow and came home on LNER first class. It was very nice and we had a lovely meal on board, with a couple of drinks too. 🍷🍷
It is yes :/ So how long did the journey from Glasgow take to Newcastle? It's nice traveling with trains, relaxing. The journey between Gatwick and Brighton is just 30 minutes, so no time for drinks, but we had a few drinks while staying in Brighton :)
@@Trond_travels It was about 45 minutes from Glasgow Queens Street to Edinburgh, then another 90 minutes down to Newcastle, although we had a couple of hours in between. We were able to catch an earlier train to Edinburgh to the one we had booked for. I asked at the station and was told .. yes, take an earlier train if you like .. so we did
Did you have an evening meal onboard ? Many many years ago I went with my parents over to Denmark (the DFDS ship sailed to Esbjerg then) and even, as a kid, I thought it was pretty expensive. I dread to think what a meal costs nowadays.
I don’t remember the prize, but we had the buffet. The buffet was not impressive. The Fjord Line buffet is better. Still, King Seaways is a beautiful ship. Very good space onboard.
Nice to see my home town on RUclips. I was actually out filming there this morning .. Just waiting for the ideo now to upload to YT.
I’m looking forward to watching that video 😀
So calm❤ this place
Are you sure that ship is called "Stavangerfjord" I went on a very similar ship, Condor Voyager when travelling to France a few years ago, a high speed catamaran, but accordingt o the Fjordline website, Stavangerfjord is a traditional single hull vessel.
The description is perhaps a little misleading. I am on board Stavangerfjord, but filming the arrival of Fjord Cat. Fjord Cat has also been sold and replaced by Fjord FSTR (fjord faster). Stavangerfjord is still in Fjord Line.
Scotland is one of the wonderful countries that I would like to visit one day.😊 Thanks for sharing
I recommend visiting Scotland. Thanks for watching 😀
There is no one there!!
Well, early mid-day, every one’s off to work and it was very vold. So I expect that would be the reason 😊
@@Trond_travelsokay I understand Is this Scotland or Norway?
@@itsfatimazahra2439 This is Norway 🙂
The statue at 0:44 is the 1st Marquis of Montrose ( en.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_Graham,_1st_Marquess_of_Montrose ) & the large white one at 0:49 is Joseph Hume MP ( en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joseph_Hume ) . I don't think either are related to Steve Marsh! 😆😆
Thanks for letting me know 😀
@@Trond_travels Hello Trond. I am sorry, but I gave you incorrect information. The large white statue at 0:49 is that of Sir Robert Peel who was Prime Minister for only a year. He initiated, supported and established the Metropolitan Police Force. His statue marks the location of the Burgh Tollbooth which was demolished in 1835. The large white statue at 1:47 is that of Joseph Hume MP. The road opposite his statue is named after him (Hume Street). You probably walked down it to get to the train station? I hope this clears up any confusion.
@@rickibenka9497 Well, that is interesting. A lot of history connected to Montrose. I enjoyed my visit in Montrose, it was sadly just a few hours visit. I first went from the station to the Montrose bridge. Then I saw the statue of Bamse and I walked to the beach. And then to town center, had a pint before I had to catch the train back to Aberdeen.
I like winter😊
Thanks for watching 😊
Nice tour Greetings from Morocco 😊
Glad you like it 😊
Crikey ! I'm tired after that long walk .. but at least the pancakes 🥞 and bananas 🍌🍌 were nice at the end
Well, yes. A long street, but a joyfull walk. I did almost 33000 steps the day after. A walk to the beach and back, pluss a lot of walking in Montrose. I expect a lot of walking in Whitley Bay also 😀
