YOU NEED TO FOLLOW INSTRUCTIONS WHILE YOUR HERE. Man the staff doesn't play around.
My Mom or Grandmother would take me and my Aunt Kathy (Mom's youngest sister, 6 years older than me) to Aquarius every single Friday night, I talking every single Friday night, from early 1981 to about mid 1986 (then we moved to Clairemont and it wasn't close anymore, so bummed out! I had hit up the Linda Vista rink, but it just wasn't the same).. We couldn't wait to go, I'd be at school on like a Wednesday and day dream about Friday at Aquarius, could not wait! it was a "kid in a candy store" thing for us.. I was a lunatic kid on those skates and I'd always skate as fast as I could, while I never crashed into anyone.. I never could learn how to skate backwards and it bothered me so much because half the people there would skate backwards, and I wanted too as well! So much fun! from skating, to having my Friday nachos and coke from the snack bar, to playing the old school (current for those years) video games like Pac-Man and Galaga all while Journey or REO Speedwagon would be blasting through-out the place.. Watching these old videos is awesome and I was hoping to see myself, but sadly did not. I'm 53 now and it still looks fun!.. Sadly Gran and Aunt Kathy passed away, RIP.
I was a skate guard there while in college. 1985-ish.
This version of this song truly touched me back in 2020 when it first came out. Now, in 2024 as a progressive woman running for office in a red state the lyrics take on an even deeper meaning. Especially “should I stay or run away and leave it all behind”. I’m told daily if I don’t like it here (Missouri) I should leave. If I’m being totally honest living in a state where our elected officials are actively working to take our voices away I have considered it. But this is my HOME and I’ve chosen to stay and fight for it! While I don’t use sign language often, since learning it I often seek out videos like this to help establish a deeper connection with the lyrics. I love seeing each person’s interpretation and their sign choices. Thank you!
Love the message and the drums! 😉
Very cool. Shades of Oingo Boingo!
This is fire 🔥
I wish I could remember who was in these.
I grew up in Germany and started roller-skating in 1980. I still love it (even with age 57). We never had such a great place to skate. So I am happy to finally found it at youtube.
Oh wish we could go back! Kids today need this instead of drugs and drive by shootings!
Love this! 🛼🩵
I had great times at the San Francisco skating rink on the beach between the park and the zoo right next to the fun house. Ha ha. Do the hokey pokey and turn yourself about on Saturday mornings. Learned how to do the blue waltz. Loved my teacher. I skated every skating rink from San Francisco down to San Jose.
This was my thing as a kid growing up. Every weekend
Never forget what they took from you
It was the same in the NE Great Lakes area. I grew up skating. Nice video, thanks for sharing.
A note with a rose! I remember things like that when skating!! I was growing up in Wenatchee, WA with a much smaller skating rink, but I LOVED it. I skate now as well-- just wish I could hear all 70s and 80s music while skating. ;) Thanks for this!!
Made at 3:00 am
I’m in the San Joaquin Valley, Ca. I’m 65 now but in the 1960’s and ‘70’s, we had a roller arena owned by a wonderful man we called Pappy. Skating was like the video above, very different from today’s style. It had my beloved wooden floors. I have life-long friends that I met at that rink. The very best memories. 💕 And the music! It was the very best!
I remember our family going to that dump in the 1960s. As the years passed, you would drive further into the landfill. My broken childhood toys are under that freeway!
I hope he is digitizing them to preserve the images.
I skated at both locations.
I feel like lots of peaks look like this in the South West, but good hike to potato chip
Those dips are so fun.
It’s 2023 and there are so many places to skate in San Diego both indoors and out. Just google it. I was skating outdoors just last night at a park rink with music and lights. I’ll be skating Tues at another park. Indoors are good but outside is the best be it a beach path or outdoor rink. It’s all good and good for you. You’d be surprised how many 40, 50 and 60 y.o. are skating.
I would die to live in this era. Prayin for a skate resurgence.
What are you taking about? A resurgence is going on now. I was just at a SD beach 90’s skate last night. We had a blast.
Its definitely goin on in Australia and around the world! I'm a part of a massive skate community here in Australia. Thanks Rollerfit!💜💜💜 And have you heard of the big annual skate festival in Barcelona? Its BIG & fun! You can't tell me there's not a resurgence???!!!!! There may not be the same amount of rinks around, but the passion & community is still definitely there 🥰🥰🥰🥰
I really must not be in the right area for skating lmao.
Look up Ronger’s Rink in San Diego ❤ We also just returned from 2024 Roller-Con in Vegas!
<3
Now being on a damn phone and being lazy and getting fat is what people do How pathetic I’m glad I grew up during a fun time f this shit now
Grew up skating at blvd.skating rink...cityline Bayonne n.j. All day sat.and sun....79 years young🕊🇺🇲💕
I really enjoyed this!!… I too love ❤to skate so I know how much this meant to those people who skated there!!
The owner hit the nail on the head. Music and skating go together. Change one and the other will change too. Disco, funk and rap were very conducive and the reason for the popularity of roller jazzing. Today's music is either too slow, fast or syncopated. Roller skating is my life and the only way for me to continue doing it is with my mp3 and ear buds. I'm 64 years young and still jazzing.
I’m so thrilled to hear you’re still able to skate! I fell on concrete (not on skates) and broke my knee cap in 3 places. No more skating for me. I’m 65 now. Keep at it! I wish I could see you in action! 😊
I am 80 I can still skate! I just need a walker with real wheels so I can skate in the rink and not worry about falling. I have all the dexterity, but I have osteoporosis and that could be awful if I break a bone. So I stop skating around 50 because I love to dance and I could do that more safely than rollerskating. I love these skating videos!
I fell in love with roller skating, eventually competing in dance and figure skating! Those were the days!
@@TheKatherine1958 I'm at Skateworld in San Diego every Sat and Sun. getting as much skating as my body will allow me. Concrete is hard, a wood floor is more forgiving. Sorry for you fall. I had stopped for over 10 years and getting back on my horse took some time and determination. I feel like God gave me a 2nd chance and I'm making the best of it. Don't miss out! Don't let fear hold you back. Come join us!
@@lavonnecarrick2238 Dance was my refuge when I stopped skating. It was a lot of fun but it did not replace roller skating. Now, I dance on skates. The double whammy! A new style of skating is now gaining popularity and it is called, 'Ballroom' skating.
Love your voice! 0:35
I loved skating there on the nights I didnt work at Roller World, Roller Skateland.
Lived within walking distance from here. Spent so many hours there with my best friend, Brandie.
Is your transexual teacher still there .9 .7
It was Palisade roller rink in San Diego, Ca for me...
i use to put my socks on over my flip flops for fights so ya slides stay on
Im third generation San Diegan my great grandfather, grandfather and father told me this as a kid when we drove over the 52.
Ken says they were "allowed" to look outside and in? He had to have their permission??
The dips in the road aren't as bad as they used to be.
Beautifully done .... no more to say, end of !
Rather ironic a hill loaded with rocks is called Mt. WOODson.
Got me a little teary ☺️Thank you for the awesome memories of growing up at the rink we went to in central California 💓
Not if the child is smart enough to live a double life
I hate parents like the
The will just dramatize a child for life
Yeah and people driving too fast there can lose control and crash. And many have
As someone old enough to have been there during the 70's, it was awesome. No one had hangups, schools actually taught kids things, the music, TV and movies were great, life was much better.
