I just bought this exact same tractor and it runs at the sitting for so many years, but I can push it forward, but I can’t push it backward when it’s a neutral. Is that normal with this type of mower?
I’m not really sure if that’s normal or not, I’m not a pro with this machine just a hobbyist
hi there do you live in the leavenworth area ? could use your help on a 92 phazer carb problem i got going on.
What’s going on with the carb?
I love these rare, unique pieces of equipment.
Me, too, took a couple years to find one. Runs do smooth too
I just picked one of these up in January 2024. It is a 1988 in the Blue-grey color. I had been looking for a little one-lunger just to bang around on. This sled popped up near my house and for the right price. Of course we didn't really have a true winter here in Wisconsin last year, but for the few days we did have snow, I had a blast on it. (Along with my Indy, of course.) I did the TORS Delete as well, while installing a tether switch. Currently rebuilding a leaky water pump. I actually have posted a few videos of this sled...mostly working on it, bur a couple riding vid's as well. The only real issue I have with it is that many parts are now pretty much unobtainium. Otherwise I love this little machine.
Very cool! Hopefully you can find the parts you need on eBay, or maybe a parts sled will come up
Nice video, any chance you could post link to the spark arrester?

@@phazerworld6300 Thank you!
Actually there is no climate change crisis. All lies like everything else
Maybe, maybe not but Yamaha is quitting snowmobile production and they cited climate change as one reason
Beautiful bike
Thanks! It’s been rode hard and still just keeps going and going, starts on first kicks most days
Say be chance do you have a Phazer seat? Looking for one in decent condition for my 1990 Phazer 2 LE.
Can you pick up in wa state? I have no desire to ship one.
@@phazerworld6300 I would if you was closer! I'm in Michigan and it wouldn't be cost effective for me to drive there. Thanks for the response. I'll keep looking here!
I think I’ve seen them on eBay or if your foam is still good you can just recover it, the covers run about $100 on eBay
@@phazerworld6300 I need the foam and seat structure. I can recover the seat no problem, it's just getting one in descent enough shape to do it. I can get skids all day long, but the seat not so much. Which you would think would be the other way around. All is good! I have the rest of the year to find one.
I’m doing a video on a phazer rn and I didn’t know how to do this. Thanks for getting right to the point!
Cool, glad it helped!
The star screws that hold the damn plastics on lol. Those things are perma seized on all the phazers up her in northern Ontario,Canada.
That’s a new one for me, of the 100 or so I’ve had the only frozen in screws I’ve had were the side seat screws, have a good one and keep those Phazers running
Ummm... bullllshit.. you know all our phazers star screws are seized and stripped to shit.. ours aint coming out.. lol
What star screws? There isn’t any torx if that’s what you’re asking! Have a good one
Would you happen to know where the ski handle loops for the Kitty Kat were obtained?
I do not know, they were probably on the ski that was possibly replaced at some pint. Aftermarket probably
I'm in process putting a 1989 motor in 1998 Phazer SS. The 1998 has the 2 wire pickup coil (w/r & w/g wires) where the 1989 has a different stator and flywheel and the engine only has the w/r wire. So I have a floating w/g wire on the chassis harness. Is the 89 compatible? I'm hesitant to swap the stator and pickup because I don't think the stator mounting points are similar. Ever run into this? Great videos - so far they have helped me but I've been combing the internet trying to figure this out.
That’s a tough question, the motor swaps I’ve done were same gen so much easier, sorry I don’t know where to get that info either, maybe the modified phazer Facebook page
Bbbrrrrraaaaaappppp!! MAGA 2024!!!
Get after it! Thanks for looking!
I have a 1990 phazer 2 and it is super boggy in the low end, once it clears up it runs perfect. Ive replaced the belt, have cleaned the carbs multiple times and still have no luck. Rubber plugs in carb are in the right places and in good shape. Any ideas what i could try?
I’ve had the best luck with 95/137.5 jetting, I’m at 1200-4000’. Also try mixture screw at 1.5 turns out, and adjust 1/2 turn either way and see what happens. If everything checks out I’d say crank seals
Have a 91 phazer 2 that dies every so often after the motor is warmed up. Idle is fine and no fuel/carb issues. I bypassed the throttle over ride at the carb and so far so good. Is there also a over ride at the handlebar throttle?
No, nothing else just the carb side bullet plugs is all there is. Of course you plugged the harness side bullet plugs into each other right?
Yes I did. Just got back from a rip around the field and it runs and idles nicely.
I started buying 80s phazer a couple years ago, 88 phazer was my first new snowmobile back in high school. Your channel is by far the best on giving great information on this old sleds. Great memories working and riding these sleds.
They are great old sleds, getting hard to find nice ones though! Thanks for watching glad you like them. I’m a pretty poor video editor but I try to just get the information out there before we all forget
That air box is pay back for world war 2.
Now that’s funny
LOVE THE WAY THIS GUY HAS SENTIMENTAL FEELINGS LIKE I DO WITH MY COLLECTION OF SLEDS, I LOVE THE OLD SLEDS, THEY HAVE CHARACTER , THEY SPEAK TO YOU THROUGH SIMPLE DESIGNS, GREAT VIDEO THANK YOU, I WISH YOU WELL, MY FRIEND!!!
Glad you liked it, it’s great finding these old gems and putting them back to work, keep wrenching and restoring friend!
There is no easy way, but I have also pulled the carbs with air box still in. Good idea to remove choke cables and activate choke lever so choke plungers don't fall off. Seems to be easier to remove cabs with boots attached, but clamps removed from air box. Oil pump cable and throttle cable easier to removed when carbs twisted so linkage is vertical, as well as replaced. Boost bottle removed first. O ring pick with 90 degree is useful in making sure boots are fully seated.
W all have our own ways to wrestle that piece out don’t we…
Any easy way to fix a broken gas cap? Looks like you have to replace the whole tank if the cap is broken...
There are parts in the cap that are replaceable if that’s the issue but you need a donor tank or some other way to get the parts
What the différences excel 3 and enticer ?
I’m not exactly sure exactly but I think the excel 3 is just a deluxe version Enticer with Electric start but don’t quote me on that
@@phazerworld6300 exactly ✔
ty very useful direct no bullshit ... got myself a 1989 venture with reverse and ewas wondering how yank that airbox out TY
Nice! Glad it helped
STEP 1: Take PICTURES of EVERYTHING before taking it apart! A picture can save you loads of time and questions later. STEP 2: INDEX all parts that have to re-align later! A couple of small dimples with a center punch or mark the assembly with a Sharpie can save a ton of headaches later on.
Maybe if it’s your first time doing one but there’s not that many parts to index that you’d forget how it went back together unless your a millennial or something
I have a 97 600xtc and this clutch looks the same??? What is the torque on the main bolt? Any help is appreciated.
Honestly I don’t know, I just use an impact wrench to put them on and don’t worry to much about it.
Good video man. Testing the needles that way is pretty smart. How many times I’ve put a carb back on to have an issue that I could’ve just tested!
Awesome, it works on lots of different machines not just snowmobiles, I’m so glad it helped
Thanks Changing jets for altitude for the first time and needed a lil help
Cool, it’s smaller jet for altitude, just go a little at a time to be safe
Nice little sled! I’d like to get a bravo sometime, got a couple phazers and an exciter 440.
Those sleds you have are nice I like finding them and fixing them back up to running condition
I don't know if this helps, but i ran a roller on my secondary on my 96' phazer. I put a 144 on it and the roller let it shift correctly. Begore, it was always wondering in between a good spot and a terrible one. Pipe that thing too. Huge hp gains for cheap
Thanks for the comment you got me wondering what a roller secondary is, I’ve not been doing modifications so that’s very interesting
@@phazerworld6300 the roller replaces the ramp on the secondary. Way less friction for the clutch to spin
Bravo is certainly a beautiful machine. I have the exact one myself.
I just got another ‘82 and it’s almost finished so I’ll have another Bravo video!
Would you sell that dg pipe?
I sold it all already!
I found if I warm up center section where belt rides and it pops off tapered shaft
That’s something I’ll keep in mind, haven’t had any problems since the battery impact took over that job though
dirty jets
Nope, this was bad crank seals.
Your mower is actually an 88 to 92 I have one as well, they only started making them in 88 and stopped in 92. Just wanted to let you know. Sweet find tho alot of people like these mowers and I'm told there pretty rare, mine still runs and everything but I had to weld alot of replacement metal for the mower deck, it was Hella rotted.
Ok thanks for that, I tried looking up the vin but no luck. I was just guessing if another you tube video
@@phazerworld6300 no problem I tried doing the same thing with mine and had no luck, could I ask you for a favor I need to know about what size the pulleys are in the front at the bottom of the hood where the belt bends to make the L shape. Mine are missing and I can't find anywhere that has the parts for it, would you be able to measure the pulleys for me and reply to my comment and let me know please. Also how far apart from each other do they sit. Would super appreciate it if you could get me that info, thanks in advance.
@@cloudstrife6729pulleys are 4.5” across and 4.75” center to center apart
@@phazerworld6300 thanks alot man I appreciate the info now I can hopefully rig something up to get this mower of mine cutting grass again. Thanks again for the help
WARNING to all who will attempt this by themselves. The big plastic piece that goes on the front of the seat is thinner further in compared to its the edges. If you use a staple gun further in than on the edges you will go right through the plastic and puncture holes in the seat cover. I learned this the hard way.....
So true! Not a problem with a brand new cover because the new covers have enough fabric, but stretching an old cover there is where I’ve ran into that problem. Thanks for pointing that out.
@@phazerworld6300 Actually, I managed to do this on my new 200$ cover yesterday. I have now ordered some VLP vinyl repair and will attempt surgically filling the tiny staple holes. I totally lost my breath when I discovered my mistake.
Question for ya, I have my 89 phazer with a aaen pipe and some other odd end mods done to it, I just put in a 144 long track and I'm curious on what I should do for springs in my secondary and primary, I'm very new to clutching and I'm super confused😅
Its going to take some experiments, the secondary you can just adjust it tighter by moving the spring position, the primary spring though is more difficult because you'll need to swap out springs and they aren't that easy to come by so makes experimenting costly and time consuming.
Great job!
Thanks!
Thanks for this helpful video!
You're welcome!
Thank you
You're welcome
I have to ask,is the fuel pump mounted on the oil tank on the side if you remember it? The manual shows nothing. Thanks in advance.Thats a great sle, wish ya kept that gem.
It’s on the top left of the tank, Yea I tried to buy it back right after I sold it but only got first right of refusal. There’s another one fir sake near me now but going into hit weather sports now.
sounds great!! Did you have to take both side panels off to get the primary clutch off?or will it get by the pogo on its own? Thanks for posting.
It will slide past the pogo so only the one easily removable side panel needs to come off
@@phazerworld6300 thats awesome thank you for the info.
Watch beating on them cranks, it doesn’t take much to move them on their press fit. I had one twist from a belt breaking and jamming up, beat it straight, checked between centres and TIG welded the throw pin where it moved. Lasted four seasons before broke. Cranks are a known issue with the 485’s, be gentle on them or you’re asking for trouble!
Since I got the electric impact I haven’t had to tap on them at all, that impact is a beast. Great advice about the crank
there is an easier way...turn and push the back sheave to slide back helix and it will open up to easily remove belt.
Definitely! I haven’t mastered that way quite yet, it seems to take a bit more hand strength but I’ll keep trying.
Can you use brake cleaner to get rid of some of the dirt/grime build up?
I use it pretty much every time
any tips for a perfect tune on a 1999 phazer 500?
I have a video on the phazer 500 that shows the carb, tuning of it would be the same, only a few differences but not enough to make another tuning video for that carb.
Bought a phaser years ago cheap that wouldn’t run right. Turned out it was the reeds not sealing when closed. Changed them out and it ran much better, then it ate crankshafts and PTO side bearings every couple years. Last crank the PTO throw came loose from the rod pin.
That sled sounds like it was cursed! I’ve never had one where the reeds caused it to run bad, I have replaced some cruddy ones with better ones once.
Can you get bad vibrations from the secondary clutch? Having issues under load on my phazer
Oh yea, that’s probably a button broke off or possibly broken spring, although I’ve never see a secondary spring break. Take it apart it’s pretty easy and buttons are available.
What year is that old phaser clutch?
The ypz was used on 84-1991 Phazers
Hey mam great video. I have a 91 venture with over 25 000 on it and its due for carb cleaning. Sais mikuni on side. I cant find much info on this sleds carb cleaning 480 fan. Duel carbs
Oh thanks, glad you liked it, search for Phazer carb clean, there lots of them. Then to set the carb up find my phazer carb tuning video
Fuel lines should be the same length from Fuel pump to carb
They are different from the factory due to routing, the clutch side is much shorter than the mag side, the mag side line has a long routing and an outside bend to get back to the fuel nipple. I should know I’ve done it over a hundred times
