In Victoria, from 29 March 2023, the minimum standards for rental properties in require that electrical switchboards have circuit breakers and safety switches for all power outlets and lighting circuits.
Failure to meet these minimum standards under the Residential Tenancies Act (Vic) 1997 leaves property managers and agencies vulnerable to renter action and considerable fines under the RTA up to $55,000 for each breach.
