Making a high spirit flute from Elder
in this video i make a high spirit flute in the key of Am with elder and cherry, as many have asked me in previous videos i finished this project with linseed oil.
i have tried something a bit different with the video style so let me know if you like this content more than the ones with music over the top, i understand its not of the best quality but it has been to long since i last uploaded so i thought i would get one out as quick as possible. thanks for watching

How to make char cloth
Просмотров 9699 месяцев назад
Char cloth is simply just cotton cloth that has not had the oxygen to burst into flames so it turns into charcoal, it is extremely dry and is amazing for starting fires due to it catching an ember very easily. you can also make char coal using the same method. I do apologize for this video not being up to my standard, especially when it comes to the audio, however i have some up and coming vide...
Carving An Ancient Musical instrument
Просмотров 3,2 тыс.10 месяцев назад
in this video I am making an ancient instrument called a 'bullroarer' they are very easy to make so I recommend trying it out if you are interested. They were traditionally used for communicating long distances due to its low frequency being able to travel far as well as use in spiritual ceremonies. Traditionally they were made from bone or a heavy wood and fairly long with sharp edges. In orde...
Making An Ash Kuksa
Просмотров 2,7 тыс.10 месяцев назад
After the last success with the cherry Kuksa I thought I would make another but this time with Ash, this was a much easier wood to carve. However, it did start to split on day 3 and slowly got worse, this is due to me starting the project when the moisture levels were too high in the wood, but that was also probably the reason why it was easier to carve. #bushcraft #carving #woodworking #woodca...

Making An Elder Flute
Просмотров 606Год назад
I do apologize for the bad quality in this video, my camera has been acting up. I really enjoyed making this one, a lot went wrong with it, the main issue being the cracks on the "flute body" and eventually the "splitting edge" however I definitely plan on making another flute at some point. Quick disclaimer, I am not a flute player or maker I just wanted to try it out, a lot of my knowledge us...

For the past few weeks I have been trying to make a Kuksa with very little luck, so I thought I would try using a harder wood (cherry). This turned out to be the right decision with the end product having a beautiful deep orange base colour with pink stripes.

    Nice work. What oil did you apply? Also is that a Morakniv knife and Morakniv gouge tool? And would you reveal and recommend that axe? I just started to get into this beautiful art. Thanks for your sharing. Subbed

    • @forisbushcraft8000
      @forisbushcraft8000 Год назад

      Thank you very much, it means a lot. I used 'raw linseed oil' for this project as it is food safe. Yes they are 'Morakniv' knives, they are great quality for their price and are usually what I use when carving. Absolutely, that is a 'Gransfors Bruk' Forest Axe, it is probably the best axe I own and will last me a lifetime, I use it for basically everything. However if you only want to use this axe for carving you will probably want a 'Gransfors Bruk' Carving Axe instead as it will give you a cleaner cut than a general purpose Forest Axe. Hope this answered your questions

    • @MrVegasTube
      @MrVegasTube Год назад

      @@forisbushcraft8000 Yes I agree with the Morakniv. Many years ago I had occasion to purchase a Morakniv "light my fire" knife/ferro rod combination. I can see how a Mora is ideal as a carving tool. Gransfors Bruks is more than just a string of axes, they are heirloom worthy of passing down to your most deserving of such a gift. Creating useful works with precious species of wood, using quality tools that makes one proud to own... what's not to like. Thank you for sharing.

      Thank you very much it means a lot, I used beeswax for the inside to make it water proof and linseed oil for the exterior of the cup. For the hook knife I use a round wooden dowel with different grits of sandpaper (180-2000 grit) wrapped around it, then once I'm happy I use some leather to take off the burr.
