What is Vorlauf & How to Do It?
Просмотров 1 тыс.Год назад
Hey brew-lovers, in this video we're gonna talk about one of the most important steps in the brewing process, the vorlauf! This is where the magic happens and the beer gets all clear and shiny. It's like giving your beer a spa day before the big party (the fermentation). The vorlauf process is basically recirculating the wort through the grains in the mash tun. It's like giving your beer a mass...
What is a Mash Out & How to Do It?
Просмотров 2,8 тыс.2 года назад
In this video, I'm going to be talking about the mysterious process of the "mash out" when it comes to making beer. But what is a mash out, you ask? Well, it's a step in the brewing process where we increase the temperature of the mash (a mixture of crushed grains and hot water) in order to halt the enzymatic process and fix the sweetness of the wort (the liquid extracted from the mash). So why...

Going to be honest here been a Busch Light / Budweiser drinker for 26 years. The past 3, 4 years once in a while, Actually more often than not I find it hard to chug beer like I've been doing for many many years. Started getting heavy 30 packs every few days since I'd say 2014 ish no problems till lately not sure if I'm getting a allergy for beer but it makes me gag as of late... Find if I add salt or eat salt before a chug I have no problems. Kinda sucks getting old sucks 43 now
I love the Randy analogies! I think you should do a collab with Hulk. That would really make for a fun brewday! I do love vienna lager. Cheers Big Rob!
late-night bars/clubs would lowkey put (a lot of) salt in the beer to make people drink more as it would make them more thirsty
Didn't know the MACHO MAN himself was a homebrewer. OHHHH YEEAAAAH.
Oh yeah brother!!
Bottle condition them in the keg.
Yes sir!
I did this with my bucket fermentor plus gelatin and it worked!
Nice clear beer! Cheers
I like salt and lime in my Mexican lagers.
Enjoy that also! Cheers
I've tried adding beer salts, and it's been such a nice experience with all the different flavors! If you're interested, definitely check out the beer salt packets from Mumm Products-it's where I got mine!
Cheers 🍻
Cheers
Wort = 🤮 Wert = 🍻
For me personally I like just a little more carbonation than not, I like the higher abv stuff, I have had issues with those specific flip top bottles holding carbonation, it may be worth doing it again with the crown caps which I use now, I like the bottling conditioning yeast as well, good stuff
I replaced the gaskets on a bunch of bottles. I noticed that you can close the flip tops off centered. Just make sure it is centered well before clamping down.
You speech patterns remind me a bit of Patrick Warburton 😂 loving the kanuck accent!
haha love it, "alright high five"!
Question, do you shake the bottle with the table sugar to mix it with the beer before you cap?
No sir, no need, plus you risk exposing the beer to oxygen, just put it in and cap it, the yeast will find it! Cheer
Been just going through older vids, and remembered your channel. I knew you were acquainted with the likes of Drunkinone and Brian (Thrash Metal Brewer/BBQ), as am I. Just passing through to say Hello, hope to see new content from ya sometime. Cheerz from Ottawa, Canada
Hey bro, been awhile, I will have to look those lads up also. Fall is coming and with it likely motivation for more content. Cheers from NB brotha!
No head
Never a good thing in life nope lol
Green apple flavours isva sign of a dead yeast, probably change of temperature during racking led to that
Perhaps, I figure over oxidized, but could be a combination for sure. Cheers makebeereasy.com/beer-off-flavors/
yayayaayay
indeed! lol Cheers
My sodium level on blood tests is below the minimum so I will try adding sea salt to my beer! Thanks for the video.
Cheers!
I have a mead/cider fermenting with hops, I’m probably gonna pull it at 10 days cause i did a stupid and didnt read up on it. I added on the initial set up and atp i dont wanna pull it too fast and get too little ABV, but at the same time i dont want super bitter, grassy cran-apple cider. The cranberry juice i had on hand was diet, so i added the honey to compensate. Bubbling took off, but now im worried after doing some research. Could i add it back to the semijohm and keep going after i filter the hops out, or will there be too little yeast in solution to keep fermenting? I did a big derp, and now im paying for it. Much love, great video, happy brewing! I appreciate you for reading!
Smithicks... W silent.
Roger that, did not know, cheers!
Great video! I have a coopers real beer kit, but it only came with yeast. What can I use in place of enhancer? I have sugar and dextrose, will they work?
Yup they will! Cheers
just made my first batch with about 2 gallons total. It was 1 oz of hops total. With 3 grams of citric acid. I added like .4 grams to hot water to get a little bitterness then added 1 gallon of cool water and then added the rest of the hops for about 20 minutes then strained in a coffee filter then carded and a little sprinkle of salt and gypsum and kegged it at 20psi for a few days and its nice! I think I will just dry hop (cool water) for longer with maybe 5 grams of hops instead of 23 grams and maybe steep it for like 5 hours. I think it is bitter and nice but I also will try to add some stevia I think.
This is a bloody helpful post, needs more attention. Sending many thanks mate, from all the way over in Australia.
Cheers bro, appreciate it!
Trudeau is destroying the country our father grandfather build harshly
Indeed he is, hopefully change is coming. Cheers
Great 👍
Cheers!
Don't need sugar if you use a spunding valve - no need to open the lid.
Right on, got one, have not got around to trying it out yet. Cheers!
hi,i just ran across you, used to follow you for years, but i quit brewing 8 months ago due to the fact i am living in my Motorhome and travelling between Arizona and Alberta,6 months at a time in each place...well beer is much cheaper in the usa...are you still friends with mad dog,man i loved those videos with you both
Hey Richard, good to hear from you man, that is awesome, thought about doing that in a few years myself. Did you sell your home and move fully into the motorhome? Yup still good buddies with Mad Dawg, live just down the street from him. Cheers man.
@@MakeBeerEasy yes we sold our home but we do have a home base to come back to for the 6 months in Alberta
Great idea and thank you for showing. Going to bottle my finished red ale now with organic sugar!
Sounds great! Let us know how it turned out. Cheers!
Well done Robb !
Cheers!
Great pour
Cheers!
Just watched this old video, lmfao !!! Great job , loved it
haha the good ol'days!
brother youre doing the lords work on this one!!!!! BIG ROBB FTW
lol Cheer!
Great info thanks so much!
Always welcome, cheers!
Big Rob, what did you mash at? Cheers.
Hey man! Happy New year. 153 F Cheers!
Hi Robb; love your easy, no stress and just relax brewing videos. I'm a long time Home brewer ( since 1979 ) all grain now but love to break out the LME and DME every so often to get back to my roots. Keep up the good work my friend.
Appreicate that, thanks for dropping by! Cheers
Sounds like a descent, slightly hoppy recipe. I usually would brew German hefes. I guess when I've brewed this style it's for an event. I keep the ibus low and don't add flavoring hops. I call them crowd pleasers, because most people really don't like hops. For a twist, I used to brew a very popular coffee wheat. But it's very difficult to find a coffee that will compliment the wheat beer.
Coffee wheat would be a good one to try. Cheers
😂 ha! I’m brewing my wheat ale as I watch this lol what timing!, my video be up later 🍻
haha perfect Captain! Enjoy brew day!
good video great tips cheers
Cheers!!
Do you prefer to keg or bottle your home brew?
Hey Tim, thanks for dropping by, I like bottled beer better, however don't like actually bottling as too much work and kegging i smuch easier. So what i typically will do is brew enough to fill the keg and then have enough left over to bottle 2-3 one liter swing top bottles. How about yourself? Cheers
I'm just getting into brewing again. I've got most of the stuff I need to keg but I will be bottling my first few brews. Never had home brew out of a keg though. @@MakeBeerEasy
Right on man, one step at a time, bottle beer tastes better, just more work involved. Cheers!@@timwhisman4232
Excellent presentation. For the hisroery minded Pilsener is named for Pilsen. For the history minded Pilsener gets its name from Pilsen ( AKA Plzen , now in the Czech Republic) where the style originated "Plzeň is an important city in the history of beer, including the development of Pilsner.[18] In 1375, Bohemian King Charles IV endowed the Dobrow Monastery near Plzeň with the beer right, and it is one of the oldest breweries to survive to modern times.[19][20] Many breweries were located in the interconnected deep cellars of the city..." en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plze%C5%88
Appreciate that and thanks for sharing the history! Great name by the way, I also Luv Rum! Cheers!
good video cheers
Appreciate it! Cheers!
was just thinking about firing up a brew, haven't made any in years and I miss it. Good to see you still at it Robb, cheers mate!
Fire it up!! Yup Im still at it, not brewing as much as I would like to, but got my brew awwnn Saturday. Cheers bro!
Love this stuff thank you Big Robb
Right on Mitch, appreciate it man, cheers!
I’m gonna have to brew your beers and can’t wait
How did beer turn out? I did my first kegging a fortnight ago and carbed with c02. So far not impressed compared to bottle conditioning. Head and head retention not as good..so far. Next kegging will be sugar primed. Hoping for better results! I read somewhere the yeast needs some oxygen to second ferment. Interested in your results..
Man, I just went looking for the taste test video, definitly did one, does not look like I uploaded it, will look to see if i still have it. Long story short I was really impressed with it, nobody would have been able to tell that it was a kit beer, as good as many store purchased IPA's I have tried. Will defintly be doing some more kit beer brews as a result. Let us know how it goes. Cheers!
Good stuff Big Robb, keep em coming! 🍻
Will do indeed! Cheers
Love you. Everything said. Most videos drone on for 34 minutes. Quick, concise; you are always my go-to-guy. You are awesome and hit all my concerns.
Glad to help, cheers!
I bought a brew in a bag brand for my brewers edge. Really clear and bright wort!!! I didn't here u say anything about ph??? Dark grains you added should bring it down a little
Right on man, love the brew bag. re pH, that video was awhile ago, have not watched it recently, for many years I paid no attention to water chemistry, focused more on it when i started my brew pub. Here is a article on my blog on water chemistry: makebeereasy.com/the-best-water-for-brewing-beer-discover-what-it-is/ Long story short for pH I do the following: "If your pH is too high you add lactic acid to bring it down. If your pH is too low you can add baking soda (sodium bicarbonate) or calcium carbonate to bring it up." Thanks for the comment! Cheers!
Thanks for sharing the recipe! Can't wait to brew it.
Cheers! Let us know what ya think of it when ya brew it up!
Will do thanks!👍
