    Man, many thanks for this useful video. Refurbishment of this type awaits me in a short time. The thing I miss the most is putting the slip rings on, especially how are those leads connected. I did not get how they are connected to each individual slip ring. Are they soldered or pressed somehow?

    • @jbclassics
      @jbclassics 8 дней назад

      @@ivanciglan1266 Hello! The slip rings are pushed on over the wire, the wire is then soldered onto the top of the slip ring. There is a slight recess on the top of the ring. Be very careful they are quite fragile!

      @@jbclassics Thanks for the update. This is gonna help 👍 Btw. since 7:15 I was quite convinced you will crack that plastic bearing housing by blowing the rotor shaft with the hammer. 😬 Looked to me like you hadn't rammed the bearing enough down the shaft.

      @jbclassics 7 дней назад

      @@ivanciglan1266 I suppose it was a bit of an agricultural attempt at best lol. I do not own a press and if I was to do it again would not attempt a full rebuild without one. In fact in hindsight with this particular alternator I wouldn't want to replace much more than brushes and voltage regulator. I think in the end I was lucky that it worked really.

      @@WHOMEWHOYOU Thank-you it's difficult to contain my excitement with this car. I'm not sure about the XK-R don't know how manageable 500bhp to the back wheels would be, even this one sometimes taking off in the wet causes the back wheels to spin if your not careful. Really good fun though😅. Hope you realise your dream and get one they are a fabulous car. Happy Christmas and thanks for commenting

    Have a look under an Audi A4 4x4 for stupid plastic covers that hold muck and rust. No manufacturers build cars to last. The only way to preserve chassis and bodywork is old engine oil and waxoyl mixed in equal parts and sprayed on twice a year, before and after winter. I have an XJ8 sat outside that was parked up for two years after the owner died, where did his widow park the big Jag? Next to a big pile of horse muck at a stable yard where she kept her wretched horses. So I gave her son £500 for it, its very tidy inside, two owners from new, started first time immediately I put a new battery on it. I only have bodywork and new coil packs to sort on it and then an MOT and happy days, cheap Jaguar thats great to ride in. I have had two modern S Types, both V6. One was a 1999 and the other a 2003, the latter was a 3.0L V6 and was brilliant so I kept it seven years before buying a BMW engined 2006 Range Rover. I should have bought a petrol V8. Keep up the good work!

      You are so right about the rust protection. It needs to be applied and then maintained regularly. I think I have started to work on this car just in time! Hopefully it will be okay under the sill covers when I get them off. Thanks for taking the time to comment and good luck with your Jag

      @@jbclassics I doesn't loook that bad a car. Tomorrow (Nov 5th 2024) I have a VW in my unit for a welding repair to the back axle where the shock absorber mount has ROTTED through. I have also done structural body repairs to AUDI and Toyota cars this years too. People slag off 20yr old Jags, they a better than foreign premium brands! What people forget is, MAINTENANCE.
