You lost me at "strong tendon", tendons and tendons are very different things.

I watch instructors turn on the lathe like this and remember an incident where a turning came apart and went right into the audience. That club now has a big plexiglass barrier for demonstrations. I recall hearing that since the time was short he had also brought his speed up and was cutting aggressively. Food for thought.

I really enjoyed Dick Sings’ tips and tricks. My only negative comment is that the videography was not good. There were no good closeups of the jigs and tools that he had made.

If you want the bowtie on the inside of the bowl to show, just adjust depth of cut to exceed final wall thickness and make your own bowties that are much taller than those. You will uncover the bowtie turning your wall thickness. Nice tutorial, thank you.

very goood video. I was trying to put a little unicorn in the middle, and make a flat bottom. I think you answered my question, glue it in before you do the second glue up. Thanks, Tommy

Instead of the metal rings and lids, I buy plastic canning jar lids from Ball or other suppliers in standard and/or wide mouth sizes. They come in white or colors. I turn the hole deep enough to bring the plastic lid flush. Last step is to glue in the plastic lid, and knobs and finials work just fine! Also, for speed, I use the right size forstner bit, then slightly increase the hole size. They come in both 3” and widemouth sizes.

Bill is a master at finishing, tool making.

Good demo. My experience has been if you know your bowls are going to be in a moist environment, then do stand the grain up with a moist paper towel just prior to your final sanding.

Question, is there any reason not to use a lathe chuck in this application? I would think the chuck would be a safer alternative than a drive center.

As others have said, the poor quality camera work REALLY detracted from the content. When in focus on the finial work, it was great, but didn’t last long. Soooo, good content. Take a club donation & at least get a $10.00 tripod.

Great video! Still trying to wrap my head around the cross. I get that the ends of the trough would be done with either a parting tool or Satan's can opener (skew) but are the arms done further into the wood? I guess I'll try some stuff on the lathe tomorrow to see.

Quick question. I am very much an amateur woodworker and am trying to do some inside out Christmas ornaments. I have some good hard wood, but wanted to practice on 2x4s first in order to get some practice. I just tried it and the head stock created a huge hole in no time and the entire piece came loose. This happened twice. Am I doing something wrong or are 2x4s just not good enough wood to practice on?

Great video. I would really like to do the inside out with 3 pieces. Can you give me more information on how you setup the table saw?.

Could you use small zip ties to hold the pieces for the first turning?
