    Good work. You say you have an "active job." Doesn't that impact your lifting, per tiring you out? I'm 74, still lifting, and the main thing for me is decreased energy. In my last year of my last job, I don't think I could have lifted much after work -- too tired. How do you manage that? How often do you lift, and how do you work it around your "active" job?

      Thanks for the kind comments. I basically just eat a healthy, balanced diet. I don't count calories or anything like that, I just eat what the wife puts down in front of me. You don't need to go to extremes unless you're competing I suppose. IMO It's comes down to calories consumed vs calories burned 🔥 which determines bf % and muscle gain. To many people muddy the waters and overthink this s**t. Work hard, stress the body, eat, sleep and recover before you hit the muscle again. That's pretty much my blueprint.

      @@SwissArmySteve. I see you are busting your ass there. Good on you. For the chin ups, when you hit failure have a step ready to stand up and add a few negative reps to increase the intensity and time under tension. For the dumbell rows Weider used to sell a handle that slipped onto the bar which offset the handle by about 4 inches. They called them "kettlebell handles". These will allow you to pull higher before the big plates hit your ribs, increasing the range of motion and getting a tighter contraction. These 2 changes should leave you lying in bed unable to sleep with the pain in your lats. As I said previously I alternate between a heavy weight lower rep day(7-10) and a lower weight with higher reps(12-15). But as we say,"You do you!" Keep at it. As long as you don't end up trapped below the bar it will do you good. All the best.

    Impressive stuff mate, good job. I hope I'm lifting this hard and heavy in my 50s, inspiring stuff. You're looking jacked as well. Have you tried 'supersetting'? You might be able to get more done in less time if you go back and forth between the presses and the pulls with short rests between. Not that you're resting that much! That's a lot of sets in 90 mins.

    • @SwissArmySteve.
      @SwissArmySteve. День назад

      Hi Charlie, thanks for the positive comments. We'll I do really get where you are coming from. Rightly or wrongly I have an old school mentality. I think super setting has its place as do many other methods of training but I'm a bit stuck in my ways as I know this really works for me as an individual. Im nowhere near as jacked as I have been previously some 5 or six years ago. I was benching 140kg for sets of 8 reps which is where I aiming to get back to if all goes well. My philosophy is a big muscle is a strong muscle and this is why I do heavy compound exercises which not only stress the musculoskeletal system as a whole it also stresses the nervouse system too which takes a lot out of you and creates a large oxygen debt. I feel super setting may diminish the capability to lift as heavy and be more cardiovascular orientated. What would your thought be on this?

    • @SwissArmySteve.
      @SwissArmySteve. 4 дня назад

      Hi, Thanks for the question. My split is chest, Back, and shoulders one day then Legs, triceps and biceps the next. My last training session was on Thursday gone, it was a full body workout. The week prior was split due to time restrictions as I had stuff to do. I Train each muscle group 2x per week either over 2 days (Full Body) or 4 days on the split. The order of exercises remains the same. Today Sunday I will be doing another full body. The frequency between training each muscle group does not change. 2 to 3 days rest between sessions per muscle group. Rest and recovery is key, your muscles repair themselves stronger and grow when your resting. Lifting weights is just the catalyst for the growth.

      Dunno mate I never counted the weight, it's about hitting the muscle and how it feels with good form. The weight is just a tool. The weight is quite irrelevant and subjective, whats light for one person may be light for another depending where you are on your journey. I try to stay strict then do forced reps and use momentum when nearing and beyond failure.

      Thanks for the reply. We'll I stated lifiting when I was 10. My Dad had a set of weights at home when I was young. That said, I was only young. I started in my mid 20s I would train for a few years then stop for a few years. I've done this for most of my life. On average 3 years on 3 years off. My latest spell off is 5 years prior to me starting to training again about 8 weeks ago. It's amazing how quickly the body reacts to hitting the weights again. Let's see if I can get anywhere near to where I was! Old school heavy compound lifting is where I see most gains.
