Expecting your children to take care of you when you are old is immoral in the first place. Especially if you were abusive to them, which most parents are(neglect is also abuse - most parents leave their children in daycares and many are spanking them - physical violence). I look forward to growing old in my nursing home with all my old friends. It'll be like college. We can go on trips and have mini socials. I'll spend most of my time in arts and crafts and doing puzzles. It's gonna be lit 🤗

The point of having children isn't to have someone take care of you. It's to have someone to care for. Many people will have meaningless lives in the near future.

I haven't visited my "father" in 19 years. Growing up, he had very little time for me, even though I lived with my mom not far from his home. And when I saw him he never really spoke to me. Today, I am 37 years old and feel I wish I never met him. I am single with no kids. His behavior towards me really impacted my life in a negative way. I hope people understand that being a parent is a selfless act. It's not something to be taken lightly. Because your behavior towards a child has a lasting impact. Perhaps, one day I will visit him when he is an old man. But even then it will be like visiting a stranger I don't want to visit.

One of the reasons why this world is so f*cked up. Is that some people are having kids to fill voids in their miserable lives, expecting to get better. Imagine how much of a selfish ignorant trash someone has to be. Most of them shouldn’t even be allowed to have a pet.

I am an introvert on my 30s and lived all my 20s by myself. I dont think any of that will change. Good thing I am already used to be alone, so when I am old, it will be normal.

I enjoy parenthood and don't expect my children to be around when I get old. Modern medicine allows us to live longer than our bodies are actually capable of and this often becomes a burden for the children and for ourselves. Humanity has to win, you can't just think about yourself.

The theory that people have kids to look after them when they get old is interesting! That was the last thing on our mind when taking the plunge. I'd never want to shackle my kids with that responsibility and have made provisions to make sure they can be free in their adult lives. I'm willing to bet most parents feel the same way as I do.

Not having children in a society where worker-sponsored pensions and social security exist is entirely selfish towards the rest of the society - especially towards the next generations of workers who will be sponsoring your retirement with ever increasing tax burden on themselves. There is no logical argument against this fact of life. The only way to make not habing children fair towards the rest of the society is by abolishing state funded pensions.

My best friend was dating this girl that he loved and she loved him. They got married and have been together for 10+ years. However, at year 1 into their relationship, he used to tell me that he didn't want to have children or just have 1. His wife however, had other plans and told her female friend that she stopped taking her birth control purposely in order to have kids. The woman the wife told ended up telling a close friend of mine and during a gaming session one night, he ended up divulging this info to me. I always wonder if he had his way, if he would've been happier. He wanted 1 and they ended up with multiple. The funny thing is from time to time, he says "I think she purposely got pregnant". I feel like a lousy friend not saying anything but I dare not participate in the destruction of a marriage either.

I had 3 sons, one went to California and the other to are still here in Toronto, haven,t heard from them in 3 years, I'm completely forgotten. Some kids should have been abortions.

Why do people think in having children they will take care of you when you're old? Who knows whose dying first, and who knows if they even want to be part of your life, regardless how good you treated them. And it depends what you're looking for, you can have a child whose a workaholic Who pays monthly to have people take care of you. And all you probably want is emotional support. And because you sacrificed time and money for your children doesn't mean they will do the same. So having children or not; there is no guarantees who is going to be there for you.

We age. We lose our family and friends plus work life. Health changes. Abilities change. Why do we need to even mention children in any form? Many are single solo adults who have lived interesting lives. Either we die or others around us do either way, our circle changes and we become invisible. Fact. Forget it. It does not matter. Health matters. Having a decent place to live with freedom like Canada is a grateful existence without children. So many seniors have pets and are enjoying legal cannabis. I personally love young people and find joy in interaction with them. I have nothing in common with married counterparts. I learned to travel solo and be creative all my life so I'm rich from my adventures and romances. People I've loved are passing away but I still want more adventure. I'm 76 years old and had my 75th birthday at Bert's Jazz Club in Belfast just because I picked it out on Goggle. No, I'm not well off but I know how to budget and set a Dream for the future. I'm not any lonelier than I was when I was 35 because life hurts and disappoints at all ages. I found that being my own best friend was the best way for me to engage with my new reflection in the mirror. I see my Mother. Even if my life was very social and chatty, I wouldn't have the energy to do it. I plan one spectacular thing to do as opposed to putting in time with hundreds of boring hours listening to people who I have nothing on common with. I'm not afraid of my own company but I will admit it's harder to take care of myself but I do live in downtown Toronto surrounded by everything I need. I made this choice so I'd remain as independent as possible. I belong to the YMCA Women's Plus Membership where I go to Aquafit as I've done for 22 years minus covid. I refuse to disappear until my time is up. I believe that we all die alone even with ten people beside us. Dying alone is not a crime nor judgment on one's life. Not having children gets worn quickly after 40. Surely, being a woman is not about producing kids. I wished for a life long partner but that never happened but I met some wonderful men on my journey. Having money for a good home care worker and doctors seem to me to be more important. Financial resources to buy help in the overcrowded non English speaking world of Toronto is important. Everyone is suffering from massive global challenges and changes. Look at the big picture and I'm grateful for today and hoping to get on another plane that takes me over the Atlantic Ocean to Northern Ireland once again. Keep dreaming. Keep moving forward. If you need a walker or hearing aids, get them. We're all just 21 years at heart.

I want just to raise them and to share myself with them, to show them beauty of this world, to teach them what I know and can. I'm fine with it. But, unfortunately I still haven't found a girl to build a family.

having children does not mean they will be around. they will have their own lived, their own battles in life. they might not even stay local or in the country. They may be born with abnormalities, which mean they will need you for the rest of their lives or they may not be able to afford to leave home for a very long time. if you want children thats fine, but have them under the intention that YOU want them and expect absolutely nothing in return. I decided to never have children because the world is a shit place to live, especially in the UK and the upcoming Ai boom, also the cost of living in the UK is crazy and also nurses fees etc not a chance.
