Woolboy Weekend
We’re off to a new winter season of lambs and baby goats being born! I honestly prefer having them being born during the winter time, we all have our own preferences but that’s just me.
I told myself that I was going to try and record as much as I can this year for new updated contents when it comes to the animals, weaving or planting.
Winters have not been the same from what I remember growing up but that’s just part of life, we adapt to our surroundings and animals know it best. I’m excited to see what personality they will all grow into. More importantly, I’m looking forward to weaving with the sheep wool!
This video is mostly a combination of different activities that mostly consists ...

Pinion Picking
Просмотров 663Год назад
Few weeks ago we heard about people pinion picking over in Utah. So we made the decision to go asap before word got out! It’s been a long time since any of us had gone pinion picking so we didn’t want to miss our chance. The morning we decided to leave, we ended up falling a little behind schedule but we went with the flow and eventually found the location and pinions.. after getting lost! Haha...
Weekend at Grandma’s
Просмотров 7 тыс.Год назад
Awhile back, I started working on a rug that I wanted to make entirely out of hand processed yarn. I wanted to challenge myself by not only shearing our sheep, but to actually use the wool to make a Navajo rug by using traditional methods. I took on the challenge but soon realized that it would be done faster with some help and advice from one of my great grandmas. So one evening I drove over a...
Navajo Cake with Grandma
Просмотров 49 тыс.2 года назад
Over the summer my great grandma kept mentioning how she wanted to make some áłkaad, which is Navajo Cake. My mother and I finally decided to make it possible for her by agreeing to do so. With the help of family & friends, we got the ingredients and brought over the necessary stuff needed to make Navajo cake. It just so happened that the day we decided to make the Navajo cake, it was a hot sum...
Northern Navajo Fair 2022
Просмотров 11 тыс.2 года назад
This year I skipped out on Navajo Nation (Window Rock) Fair but decided to attend Northern Navajo (Shiprock) Fair 👏🏼 I only went for two reasons: 1) My main reason was to watch the Ye’ii Bicheii. Due to traditional beliefs, I did not film any of it at the time. However, I was able to finally attend one after two years of not having nay. 2) My second reason of going was the Song & Dance. It’s be...
Navajo Tea Dye
Просмотров 2,6 тыс.3 года назад
Before I could completely run out, I had to dye some wool using Navajo tea, greenthread (Thelesperma). The wool is all hand sheared, hand carded, spun and washed. The red yarn I used store bought dye. The gray yarn is all natural from the sheep wool. I used a single burner to help with boiling the water. I am satisfied with the outcome! 🙌🏼 This is my first time weaving this style. It’s a diamon...
Cleaning the Wool
Просмотров 3,4 тыс.3 года назад
Understanding through trial and error with traditional approaches of the weaving process to a Navajo rug. One of the earliest steps of weaving is before actually warping the loom, but rather preparing the wool. Cleaning the wool, carding the wool, spinning and washing the wool after it’s been sheared, collected, and sorted. Here I demonstrate how I’ve removed it from the ground in order to obta...

This is super interesting! The ignorance we have of the way folks lived, worked, and kept stuff clean before modern plumbing and soap is so detrimental to figuring out the best way to do things sometimes, especially in an environment where maybe we should keep the water around for more important things. I got a free, unprocessed fleece from someone with Navajo Churros, so seeing the specific process that would historically be used is so awesome. It really makes me feel connected to the people who have spun before me.

Wow, miss the grandparents. Grandpa Mark always remembers me of my grandpa Sam Black; as he’s name was once before John Begay. Mark; He was like my grandpa twin. Always great to see them both along with the Family there. One day we will all reunite. The grandparents always say, you have my ts’áá (Navajo Basket); when we get a chance to see each other. Totally need to make them one personally. They are such great loving parents and grandparents. Much love to you and the Begay Family back home. 👍🏾💟💯🪶🔥🫶🏽🫶🏽 so cute how grandma disc on how the generation now day about the phone. LoL

Words are hard to find. Listening to her voice, Seeing her face I have a deep understanding Of the love That I was given a chance to see. Not to take away from this love in your life Was blessed to know the love shown by my own great-grandmother was 2 years old when history came for Wounded Knee Massacr 1890 Two of my great grand parents 1886, she was 1888, Creedy and Seminole Her cooking only one has cook that cook two of my Brother drove 100 miles 3 of us put her to the tset my thoughts sure all three can't be wrong to be honest, I hunt and I been given wild game My wife cooks as its a blessing from our creator with a loving heart, so please find kindness in my words the one you call grandmother, was a gift from Our creator, her life, is a true blessing , Once in a lifetime Pray you remember her wisdom .

Given a change , its once in a life time. I dont know this woman as her loved ones do. can find understanding .and grateful, unsure the generation She saw in her walk on the earth. seeing she was their chance of life. For those who called her mother ,was pleassing from our creator Blessing, to so many Her spirit true gift Story of Earth Spirit Water Blood is the same as my own great grandmother, her birth 1888, her body of Mother Earth , that holds the spirit Given from on high one day return knowing she got to see her own children grow and much more Her body formed in to flesh in the water of her mothers, Blood there far more knowledge. For now Blood of ancestors still lives known as DNA to others. From the video she loved Looking around her she grateful th e way shle cares for what she Given and work hard for. If I may say with kindness May not understand as others She in once in a life time touching others lives who may see the love also.
