Martinaaaaa the new Star 🌟
Sukova only beat Navratilova 6 times out of 32 matches but 3 times were at Grand Slams Not many players can say that other than Graf, Evert, Mandlikova
@@kdohertygizbur yes good point. Sukova was delightful all round. This was Martinas last match at Melbourne that century. She returned in her late 40s only to win a doubles slam..incredible
Hingis was just acting, seemed she's playing with Kremer just to boost her confidence...
I was 13, in the stadium, still remember this day quite pristinely. King of Spain came during the match, and David Robinson was sitting at the opposite side of the stadium.
Never realised Arantxa was just 24 here. It was basically the end of her prime but seemed like she’d been around for ages! And after winning the French at 26 in 1998 she was pretty much done.
That's right. She and Sabatini had almost parallel trajectories and descents.
Sabatini a bit earlier at both ends..
By 94, even as early as 93, how she performed makes sense and connects with what Sabatini stated in interviews after she retired - that she was spent: mentally, physically and tired of all the excess attention and expectation of the press and people in Argentina. She started questioning her passion for the game, by this point, and sought out help. Plus she started really developing more interest in things outside of the game such as her known business savvy.
Un año regular y malo para Sabatini hasta mitad de año que gano el 2do Master
Martina talked on Twitter recently about why she stopped playing the Australian Open after this. She mentioned how, like a lot of other players, she hated the Rebound Ace surface and thought it was dangerous - she mentioned how she burnt her knee once while getting down for a low volley (the surface was rubberised and got very hot and started to melt in hot weather). She also mentioned how before they switched from grass, the Australian Open officials asked the players which surface they wanted - apparently the players didn't want Rebound Ace but were ignored. Martina also said that scheduling became a real problem for her. She said there was too little time for her to recover from the last season and be ready for Australia in January.
I'd wondered why she didn't make any more appearances in the 1990s Thanks
In my opinion moving from kooyong was a bad idea for tennis purists however a good one for capital gain and commercialism. Stopping a grand slam on grass is always a bad idea. That tournament had a unique quality to it and would have brought in everyone eventually. The lesser slam was gaining more entries as the 1980s progressed.
I've a similar opinion on court no 1 at Wimbledon. And while it's looked at through my somewhat rose tinted specs, it was a unique and intimate arena that should have been preserved
@@dm7170 I guess a similar thing happened with the US Open when that moved from Forest Hills. Ultimately, it's always about the money. I suppose the move to the new stadium at Melbourne Park did start a huge new trend - having a sliding roof. All of the other grand slams have now copied it.
Sukova le ganó dos veces a Navratilova en el AO, en el 84 y 89
By this time , Martina had already made the quarters of the AO that year and won Wimbledon doubles , played the Olympics, and had a win over Steffi! She was also 16th seed here. At such a young age.
Watching this again, it's striking how different this match was to their 1991 matches on green clay. In those matches, Gaby was moving well and playing really assertively, often making sneak attacks to the net. In this match, she is playing like she just got out of bed about ten minutes before the match. She doesn't really seem to know where she is.
True. Remember that this is the period Gabriela was now mentally and physically becoming spent from playing on the tour, tired of media attention, and of course this was now after the big meltdown in her career: Roland Garros 93 semifinals. It was also the period that Gabriela was finding more interest in things outside of tennis such as her business world. In post-career interviews she mentioned it was starting in the mid-90s that she started questioning her motivation which led to discussing it with her loved ones, her coach and even a psychologist.
All 4 ladies, 1 handed backhand, All 4 ladies, serve/volley....bring this technique back to ladies tennis....
En este partido Gaby fue una decepción absoluta
Unbelievable to see a 15 year old girl play such good tennis at a Grand Slam!
Sabatini owned her for years . I think what changed was Sanchez hitting that flat backhand more and Sabatini less likely to hit out on the backhand.
Gaby was in a mental slump. She didn't win a tournament from May 1992 to November 1994. Her game, her fitness and her eagerness just weren't there. She never beat Steffi Graf again after 1992, after winning so many of their matches 91/92.
Talk about paint dry , they just loop the ball to each other. Sabatini should have attacked and hit her off the court. Sanchez was still not quite the real deal by this stage.
Gaby didn't have that kind of game though to hit someone off the court. The major problem she had with Arantxa is that she had a fantastic defence, and no obvious weakness that Gaby had the weapons to target. So it was always going to be a battle of attrition, neither with the weapons to hit through the other.
Hingis loves show her as s
She sure did..
Love a girl friend just like martina back those great days
チェコ出身🇨🇿の偉大な2人👍✨✨🤗 🎾😃☀️
I wonder if Martina regrets not playing the 1990 Australian Open. It had a very weak field (Monica and Arantxa not there, with lots of the other players losing early) and Steffi was not in good form at all.
Considering several players were injured due to the sticky surface, it's probably good she didn't go
I couldn’t remember the outcome of this match so i was rooting for Martina the whole time. She was a great champion and so fun to watch. She was plenty gracious in defeat. Obviously disappointed in herself for some missed opportunities. She didn’t play her best and barely lost. Just wasn’t her day. She’s not only a great champion but a strong role model who loved an amazingly brave life. She’s a hero!
Thanks for your kind and sincere comment.
yes👍💖💖💖
15 yo anke VS 14 yo jennifer... best teenager at that time beside monica, maggie & mary 😘😘😘
is there a hq version available for send?
That's the only version I have at the minute.
When Jen was confident she had the ability to beat anyone on tour. This would prove to be her biggest event and win prior to her triumph in Australia practically a decade later. She must have felt so much pressure as a mere 16 year old.
Thanks for your comment on this. Yes she's one of the most impressive baseline players ever. Groundstrokes were something else, toe-to-toe with Seles in that department. The 1991 US semi is testament to that.
Gran Final de Arantxa ❤
Very good training video by Gabriella Sabitini. A real pro. Nice work😮🥰
From 87 onwards Martina had lost her aura the players started to beat her more and more and only won one more GS
ナブラチロワは1994年のウィンブルドンまで輝き続けていました!😊😉❤️✨✨✨
But she continued to make several more finals, she reached 8 or 9
Martina choked on 2nd serves ag Matchpoint...
choking..then theres not playing well/// she might have what you call choked but overall sukova never won a singles major to maartinas what?18?
Loved watching Navratilova LOSE!
Unless Martina was an asshole to another players or not likable because of some really terrible traits she has that makes her come acrosss as being disrespectable or selfish why would you enjoy watching anyone lose? There are some players I don't like but I never relish in seeing them lose unless they're playing against my favorite players but even so I wouldn't relish in it. I can understand if she's not one of your favorites but can I ask you if you have a strong hatred towards her that would justify your comment? I'm just curious.
@@guyinsfjust a hater
Steffi looks so sexy without wearing revealing clothes❤
Just curious. Do you also have ASV vs. Hack in the same tournament?
No I don't..
Great player but i found it odd when she said not to use too much topspin , that is what she did and it did slow down her shots and sat in the middle of the court at times .
Good point. It may be a case of 'do as I say and not as I do'. Certainly copying her in any way won't really work for a club player, until they're advanced at least.
I personally find her service motion to be the most pleasurable to imitate. It's relaxed, there's lots of space between body and ball as well an expansion of the chest and an exaggerated pronation.
@@dm7170the gaby's service was weak, slow, a real mess.
at 16:00, i don't remember such effect on the ball ever
Mais vídeos de Hingis, por favor.
One of the worst matches I've ever seen ASV play.
Such an elegant game Gaby had. Those long beautiful strokes were gorgeous to watch.

That second serve from Hingis at the 16:00 mark is maybe the worst serve I’ve ever seen her hit 😳
Arantxa deffo was my favourite tennis player i was rooting for her
Steffi was and is my favorite but even i at times rooted for arantxa. Gutsy player

That news report around 2:16 talks about the murders that the Scream movies were loosely basked on.
Didn’t know that
My idol Gabriela Sabatini ❤❤
I have the advanced level section too. I’ll upload it soon
So sad seeing Jennifer so happy here, and yet within a year the tennis world would really have gone a long way in destroying her. I heard on a podcast a couple of years ago that she was suffering from severe depression.
