Gunsynd - A Personal Tribute to The Goondiwindi Grey
One of Australian horse racing's most beloved champions, Gunsynd was named after the Goondiwindi (popularly pronounced Gundawindi) Syndicate who purchased him, which is where the horse got his name.
His heart, sheer courage and will to win was astounding - the crowds adored him and he adored them too.
As a born & bred "Gundy-ite", his deeds still affect me to this day, so I thought I might put together a little personal memento of some of his finest Group 1 wins, together with some pictures of the famous Grey fellow, so that people both new & old can reflect on just how great he was, and just what he meant (and still means) to the people of Goondiwindi and indeed, to all Australian racegoe...

One of the most classic characters portrayed by Paul Hogan for his 'Paul Hogan Show' back in the late 70's - the wickedly funny MCG Cricket Yobbo! Hope this makes you smile - it really was great humour that we'll likely never seen again on TV.
The Paul Hogan Show was crackup in the era watched by thousands.
Australia was a great country..
I think this one could have been done on TV today.

Like many others here was a child when this great grey graced the turf but this is a fitting tribute and wonderful find thanks for posting !
Gunsynd was a real character......he was a crowd pleaser. He knew how to endear the crowds when he returned from winning. Ears pricked, and a smile for his admirers.

My all time favourite, super versatile, theatrical personality and knew where the finish line was...huge heart. His last two starts in Sydney he was beaten by the kiwi champ Apollo 11 who had him covered on the home turn and looked like winning by 5 only the big Grey wouldn’t lay down and it took him the length of the straight and just shook him off to the line...what a champ

I was only a kid when he was a champ, but even a kid in Qld knew he was special. My bro and me used to have these dicky plastic horses to play with as kids but I always remember the grey one was Gunsynd....R.I.P

Great, versatile, courageous horse. I liked to have a bet in those days...but I could never bet against Gunsynd, even if I fancied another runner.
