18xx Training Boardgame Zone
Добавлен 9 июн 2015
Bravo Zulu is a nautical term that represents a job well done. I have reviewed my channel and have determined that I do more than 18xx games. I basically create content for games that I enjoy. So using this term from my time in the Navy feels right and it is known internationally as a job well done.
The content will include instruction, exploration, play throughs and accessories of the games I enjoy playing.

Excellent teach especially for unique-to-game rules. Thank you for using the actual board and components. I think it is so much easier for new players to understand play versus exclusively using online games. Helps in set-up, player order, stickering, etc....
is there any update to your poker chip preferences as of 2024? Are you close to southeast TN?
Even a couple years later, I still use the Apache Gaming Chips. I have experienced a variety of other chips, but the Apache are holding up well. I am sure that there are better chips out there, but for the price the Apache meet all my requirements. The only thing I dislike is the color of the $50 chip, so I just do not use them. I also prefer fewer denominations. $1, $5, $20, $100 and a few higher denomination chips for the end of the game. Thank you for watching.
What's the tiebreaker in a solo game with your automa?
It is a matter of Philosophy, I just ask myself, did I win? If the answer is no, it was a tie, then I consider it a loss.
@18xxtraining625 Well, it's also true that not every game must have a tiebreaker rule, a perfect tie is cool. Since the multiplayer rules talk about number of resources and then number of buildings, it would be pretty impossible to invent a tiebreaker rule that don't favor either part since borgo don't use resources and usually build way more cards than the human player.
This is the map of where I am right now (Saskatchewan). Regina is where that yellow "pile o bones" yellow tile is. Pretty cool. Thanks!
I am glad you are enjoying the videos.
Great video, never heard of this genre. Nice!
Welcome to the rabbit hole Alice
@@18xxtraining625 lol...
Thanks for the video.
Good Match, interesting strategic play.
Thank you for taking the time to watch
Looks great. I played the full version a couple of times at 3 players a few years ago. Hoping to this expansion to the table before the end of the year.
Thanks for teaching us 18Svea. I really like this video format with the overhead camera and zooming in on static screen shots of portions of the game so we can see clearly. I'd love to see you do this for other 18xx titles (not a full game of course, but just enough to show off the mcguffins). You said you had other 18xxs that play well at 3. What are your favorites at 3 players?
Thank you for watching and commenting. I enjoy 18New England, northern states expansion, 18Nebraska, and of course 18MS.
That vinyl mat is sick! I'd stay with the new edition cards, tiles, and charters, the Cube4Me tokens, and that vinyl board. So the old edition would end up being left behind.
I know I'm super late to the party but, In my mind the only reason to buy in P1 and/or P2 in OR1 would be to block your opponent from New Orleans and get the Station token bonus in OR1. In this instance, where there was no completion for New Orleans, it would've been better to purchase both P1 and P2 in OR2 for 1.5x face value. Since there is no way to run trains OR1 and the private companies can be purchased before running trains, there are no other benefits for laying the extra track in OR1 (unless you really need a specific piece, but so early in the game modifying plans are relatively easy).
Thank you for watching and commenting. It has been awhile since I posted this video. You may be right, but normally the competition for the New Orleans token is highly contested. This is a very short game with only 10 ORs, so two extra early builds are quite important to establish the ability to run two train as well as claim the off board bonuses. Again thank you for watching.
Hi! I’ve got a question regarding Borgo’s building action. If Borgo builds a location which gives bonus victory points e.g. Church, does he score? Thanks for great solo mode and for the video 😀
No. Borgo only gets the points for building it at the end of the game. No bonus points. Thank you for watching the video
Thank you!
Is the map one-sided or two-sided?
Thank you for asking. The board is a hard mounted single sided board.
really nice intro. helped me to win a 18che competition
Exactly what I looking for. Thank you! Might just duct tape the bottom of the two resource trays bc I already dropped them twice
Thank you for taking the time to watch. I am pleased it helped you. Enjoy!
Thank you for this! Does it come with card dividers or did you craft something up on your own?
I would love to see you record an 18DO: Dortmund video!
Unfortunately, I traded 18DO during my most recent Game Purge.
I went with Iron Clays a few years ago simply because I had backed the massive Roxley Brass kickstarter a while back and already had a good amount of the necessary set. I did have to spend about an hour one day lightly sanding both sides of all the chips to counteract the slipperiness. I'm glad to have the set. They are my 18xx group's favorite to play with because they have 20s and feel weighty and substantial.
Thank you for watching and taking time to comment. I like my iron clays, but I found the apache gaming set were just a better chip. The Apache Gaming chips also have 20s. As I stated in the video, I love the look of the BGG chips, but they are extremely slippery. The Iron Clays are a decent chip, but over priced. Enjoy your train games!
Hey I was wondering if you could answer me why you would rather use 20’s than 25’s. Everybody talks about it but i havent found an explanation!
@@Bornatorborba I like to use a very small chip set normally I use only $1, $5, $20, $100, and $500s. the reason for 20s instead of 25s is due to most of costs are easier to parse with $20s without making change each time. For example 1846 is one of my most played game, each turn a player may build two tracks at a cost of $20 per track. this minimizes the banking transactions, which in turn decreases the playtime of the game. It is really just a personal preference. More important is keeping the colors consistent with your group. Most of the players I play with accept Whites as ones, reds are five, Blue is for 10s when used, gray for 20s, green for 25s, and Blacks for $100s.
@@18xxtraining625 thanks for the answer can’t wait to get into 18xx
Not an 18xx player but well done with this video. Didn't know about the handy vac tool.
Thank you for taking the time to watch and comment.
Not an 18XXer but want a set for economic Euros. I was waiting on the Roxley Iron Clay restock but noticed that the Apache Banks are being restocked next week and I have my order in. It’s a tight window but I’m hoping to get them in time before we leave for WBC on the 20th!
I think the #1 advice to anyone that wants to try these games is to find someone to teach them. So i think there is a huge difference between what game to bring to the table for a group that wants to try the genre (not even sure such a game exists, given the state of the rule books) and what game you should use to teach someone 18xx.
As always, thank you for taking the time to watch and comment on the video. It is always better to have a teacher. That being said there are alternatives that allow you to gain a good grasp of a game prior to playing it with your friends. Of all the games I own, If I had to pick one to learn from scratch with out a teacher it would be 18MS. If I had to do this, I would read the rules, which are available on 18xx.games. Read the most relevant BGG threads, watch a couple of youtube videos of instruction and playthroughs, Play a couple of games on 18xx.games, asking questions etc. Then you are ready to teach the people you play games with. It is a tedious process to learn without an experienced teacher but doable these days.
clever to place the glass beads. Thanks.
Thank you for taking the time to watch.
Such great video, so clear and straightforward. Really like your playstyle. Production quality of the video is also great, the small footnote with explanations and added rules help a lot. Thanks!
Thank you for taking time to watch and comment.
Would love to see more on this one!!
I'm totally up for some more 21Moon content! Still haven't been able yo het my copy to the table yet either
I can do an instructional, I looked and doesn't seem to be any using the non prototype. Thank you for watching
Sometimes you just have to enjoy the little impulse purchases. Do you play much 18xx these days? Also, the brown plain track is quite funky.
I really enjoyed playing Jonas Jones's 18SVEA, so this was not too much of a leap of faith. I don't get to play as much as I want, Life happens. I missed several of my favorite conventions but will try to make it up at the world boardgaming championship this summer.
I'd like to see a playthrough of this. Not much info out there for it. I bought the expansion and new companies, but have yet to play it. Thanks for the video!
I enjoy 18New England a lot, this expansion is my favorite way to play it. I tend to enjoy shorter 18xx titles, this is great.
At first I was like, “did Joe drop his sweet guitar ditty?” Was happy to hear it after the epic music 😊
Hickory Hollow will alway be part of my videos.
Hickory Hollow, eh? Nice, I'll remember that!
Excellent video! Just played my first 18xx this weekend (18 New England) without knowing these games existed. Now falling into this new sub genre of tabletop gaming, and your videos and playthroughs are extremely helpful.
Thank you for watching. I will be starting to make more this summer.
I loved the speed run of the stickering Joe. Could have watched the whole thing 😎

Good Catch! Thank you for watching
Railways of the Lost Atlas seems most suitable for a newbie like me. Currently in kickstarter.
I have no experience with Lost Atlas, but when I was thinking about learning 18xx, I spent a lot of money purchasing train games like Steam and Age of Steam. Even though these are both good games they did not scratch the 18xx itch. Enjoy.
RotLA is a fantastic entry to 18XX. 18XX with map building, what’s not to love?\
Great video, I was looking into getting into this genre. And this helps.
Thank you for taking the time to watch and comment. There is a new game that I would add to this list, If I was to do it again. 18SVEA is part of All Aboard Games Wave 6. The Kickstarter is over, but All Aboard Games maybe opening preorders soon.
@@18xxtraining625 cool thank you will check it out
No voice in this one?
Thank you for watching. I am having some allergy issues, but I put off making this for too long.
I used to play with Iron Clays but last year I found a copy of Hold'em-opoly which includes a nice set of mini poker chips with printed denominations. I've since sold my Iron Clays since these mini chips are so portable.
I have to agree. I have stopped using my iron clays and now either use my apaches gaming chips at home or I have a set of mini chips for traveling.
Thanks for all the effort you put into your videos, Joe! I appreciate them! PS: Love the background music.
Thank you for watching. I am glad you enjoy them. More are coming.
What happens if the USA controls Kenya (battleground) and Sudan for example and the USSR only controls Egypt (battleground) during scoring? Only presence for both? Great video!
Thank you for watching. If the scoring card is played, then both players score 2 points. One point each for presence, and one additional point for each battleground they control. This is a push assuming that the Strategic Sea lane is equally controlled. During final scoring Africa would be scored the same way. It is a push for Africa. I hope that is clear enough, Egypt is very important for scoring as it counts as a battleground in both Middle East and Africa and can force both of those scorings to a push. If you have any other questions do not hesitate to ask.
@@18xxtraining625 Thanks
That's some blurry 1080p.
That is strange, it looks fine on my monitor. The lighting could be better. I am using an overhead light that gives me a bit of glare. Thank you for watching.
This is great! How am I the first person to like?! Love the game and your videos.
Thank you for watching. I hope to see/meet you at the World Boardgaming championship in July.
@@18xxtraining625 I'd love to attend but I'm in Texas and we have the BGG con and I haven't even been to that. I do plan to attend a 18xx convention sometime. Probably Traxx.
Definitely one of the most powerful cards in the game for the US! I enjoyed the Soji outtakes too :)
Soji is a new addition to the family. She wants to play. It makes it difficult to record some days. Thank you for watching. I will be making more of these videos in the near future.
Great video!
Thank you for watching, I will be making more in the near future.
Hi, "Borgo sidcards 1 Brawler. Then Borgo Builds the top card from "his" not "your" perosnal discard pile - is that correct ?
I do believe that scavengers allow your opponent to build from your personal discard pile. So If I am reading your question correctly and you are playing the scavenger's expansion, then Borgo would build from your discard pile not his
Thank you for the detailed explanation. Much appreciated.
Thank you for watching.
Woah, I hadn't considered that Egypt gambit! Thanks for sharing!
Thank you for watching. I am working on addition videos right now, Good to hear that they helped you.
Will you do set up video?
I have taken a bit of time off from making videos, life has come crashing down. I will be making videos again shortly and I can put 18USA Set up on the list. Thank you for watching.
When drawing a card after couping a Flashpoint country if it is a 3 or higher you don't shuffle it back into the deck, you place it at the bottom of the draw pile for a potential reshuffle on a later turn.
You are absolutely correct. It is one of the disadvantages of playing on the computer instead of face to face. It is the one rule that I often miss.
Good concise video, very handy to learn from. Around 6:00 though when figuring out where to place influence there were 2 possible choices for battleground countries to place influence into - Saudi Arabia and Kenya. You needed to continue down the list and you would have ended up with a random choice between the 2 countries.
Great job from Spain!!!
Apache Bank Chips set of 300. Have to be ordered in packs of 25 so: 50- 1's, 25 Train chips for odd denominations(2's in 1862 and 200's in 1835 for example), 25- 5's, 50- 10's, 50- 20's, 25- 50's, 50- 100's, 25- 500's. Later added 25- 1000's for overflow in the last OR's when the bank runs out. I won't need another set, that's 20,425 ...not including the Train chips. The extra 25k in 1000's was overkill actually, hindsight shortcut being 25- 10's maybe with 25- 1000's rounding out the 300(45,175+25 Train Chips).
At 5:10 you perform an attack action for Borgo, you discarded a card for the matching icon on your location and then check for the discarding of a brawler, wouldn't it be the reverse since the brawler check is listed as the first step of performing an attack? So that school shouldn't have been discarded, right?
yes
