You guys in New York are great.
You a firefighter now? How come no more work with the trailer?
How much per ton for sand to Brooklyn?
@@MichaelPalermo-k7r $4
@ you mean 40?
@@MichaelPalermo-k7r $4 per ton $160 per load at least 10 loads a day
The best explanations ever, when it comes how to drive an 18 speed transmission . I never saw people showing their thumb on the splitter doing forth and back movement . Keep up the good work bro. All the best.
thanks bro glad i can help
watching one of your videaus in dump truck for aundre. i was in dump truck but work got to slow im about to get back in dump trailer we go to cemet co everyday my wife dm u about hats what u doing now bro. hey man be cool be ill get at u bro💯
@@eddieordogne6419 hey, I’ll respond to the dm, but I’m a firefighter now, yea this is Andre’s truck lol
Even coming over from regular flatbed the 3/8 chains vs the 5/16 chains you might be accustomed to....as well as them 3/8 binders are quite the beast as opposed to 5/16 binders. I only got a taste of that for like 2 weeks.
@@bensanders7392 anything counts
how much are each load if you had to do a rough estimate ?
price or weight?
yo no more vids whats the word
is that a class b dump ?
YES
Without counting low gears that makes it a 16 speed
@@themedium-johnseaton907 only thing is that the low gears are counted
Great explanation. Easy work.
So i drove a ten speed and a 9 i see that the pattern is the same as a 9 speed just splitting the lows and highs my question is do you have to keep using the gear splitter goin down or can you just put it down and shift down that way
depeneds on how fast your'e decreasing your speed
Why was this video the best I’ve seen on RUclips for driving 18speed. Everyone complicates shit
@@TheIdahoTrucker lol thank you
Very good video!
I've been driving Stick for about 22 years. I wanna learn to drive one of those!
you get paid by the load?
@@gjoniny by the ton
Disagree 100%. You’re so focused on a transmission. The difference between 80k and 117k is minimal. 117k isn’t even heavy haul. Guys that have never actually been a heavy hauler may consider it heavy haul. Guys that weigh more than 117k empty laugh at it. 117k can be pulled with a 9 speed if you have a good hand. Width, length and height are very important for you to get comfortable with before you start heavy hauling.
@@themikel129 117k is heavy hauling, OVERWEIGHT PERMIT REQUIRED for a reason. Yes there are heavier loads doesn’t mean 117 isn’t heavy hauling
@@Jeff_Jefe 81,000lbs requires a permit. You call that heavy haul too?
@@themikel129 never seen a 81k permit
@@Jeff_Jefe didn’t answer the question. You consider 81,000lbs heavy haul?
@@themikel129 yes technically it is 😁
I’m on a landoll with 13 speed hauling small equipment with few pieces being permitted. Just got an offer for about the same pay but lowboy 7 axle setup on 18 speed. I have only been with this company for 3 months. Don’t want to be viewed as a job hopper but this seems like a huge opportunity.
@@tylerbland6036 yea don’t worry about job hopping, if your hopping to reach your goal

Well done sir. I learned a lot. I'm not a driver but I'm here because I want to learn 18-speed shifting in American Truck Sim. So, if your hauling heavy cargo, you want to split all 9 gears? And if you're empty, you can just do 1-8 without splitting? Is that right?
@@CDZNTZ thanks bro, yes that’s correct I’m Glad I Can help
Yesir, when that Bull hauler left lane season comes to an end I'll be stepping more into this sort of thing

to the trailer before the full height is reached. If you do have to be at an angle and no room to straighten with your trailer; lock tractor brakes and let trailer pull towards tractor ONLY WHEN 100% GROUND IS LEVED
I’ve never heard of a dump hauling that much weight. I’m not sure where that’s at but I don’t think you can do that here on the East Coast. How long is the trailer?
@@paulwatson5965 New York is one of the only States that permits it, 32ft, that’s why it’s a quad Axel. Check out my other videos
@@Jeff_JefeYea, that’s what I used to pull except it was a tri axle and would only haul 25 tons legally. That’s a lot of weight for a 32’ trailer! We have them up to 40’ here but, again, aren’t allowed to haul any weight. It’s amazing NY allows that kind of weight.
Do owner operators make good money doing this?
@@5n_fidel $7k /week on average
@@Jeff_Jefecan you heavy haul as a company driver ? (Chill I’m a rook) about to start at tmc bout to hit it hard my first year , need that bread
@@monkmode_11 yes
@@Jeff_Jefe Thanks! Where can we get training for this? Like securing the cargo and knowing what trailer to use and all of that.
@@5n_fidel i would recommend rental equipment companies like sunbelt or united, they'll hire you and teach you the ropes. From there its all based on the experience you gain.
A truck is a truck and a load is a load. This working your way up and having to have experience is BS. It ain’t rocket surgery. Just strap on some chains and go…🤷🏼♂️🤷🏼♂️ Real simple.
Pulling a dump isn’t heavy hauling….🤔🤔
@@paulwatson5965 it sure is
@@Jeff_JefeNot sure what state you’re in but, here in Ga, I drove a tractor trailer dump for years with a drop axle but all we could haul was 25 tons and it wasn’t heavy haul.
@@paulwatson5965 lol u just said it 25 tons, WE HAUL 40 tons plus 117,000 grossweight. It’s not about the DUMP it’s about the WEIGHT

I am curious. If you are hauling, are you able to skip from 5L to 6L or do you have to go through 5H?

Hey this is great! Fascinating. I knew about the range selector but had no idea about the hi/low splitter. But I’ve never even been in a truck so I’m just curious. Maybe a stupid question, but since it wasn’t covered in your otherwise thorough video: those trucks have a clutch like a manual transmission car, correct? I’m assuming you’re pressing the clutch to shift between each gear, just not the hi/low split? Thanks!
@@munkeepilot no clutch in btwn shifts it’s called floating

Preciate you bro
Thats been like that for a while, you would’ve caught it with regular pre and post trips
Great video. Question, roughly at what rpm are you splitting going from high to low.
Man only negative thing here is how early you are pre selecting... once you flip the range or gear splitter you engage it... you can actually feel it grinding... its terrible for the components. dont get me wrong.. I also pre select.. however it is right as I want the selection... not 10 seconds before
