Mark, Mel & Don were the Greatest LIVE Rock Trio of the 70's... and yes, better than Cream or Hendrix Experience..!! Because they were Better LIVE and ruled the Stadium Concert Scene...GFR issued 25 albums & 25 singles..!! First Band with 10 Gold Albums in a row, including 4 Platinum & 2, 2x Platinum albums..!! Cream issued 4 albums and Hendrix 3... and they both played TOO Loud & Too Short Live... GFR jammed for hours..!!

The guitar player broke his G string .... oh my.

Interesting to note that the Railroad would go to Florida right after this gig to record the "Live Album". Contrary to what most people think I believe this was a superior performance to the one they would perform a week later. Terry Knight really should have had his tape recorder rolling for this one to put on the "Live Album", instead of the one he did. Too much feedback on that version. This one was clean

Mark Farner is Grand Funk Railroad

An episode of 'The Family Guy' featuring Peter Frampton, whereupon the 'angel of death' comes to his door; to which Peter replies: "Why don't you show up at Keith Richards' house instead?" Before he became the 'guitar tech' for Peter Frampton, my earliest childhood, Jonathan, was my brother's 'roadie'. In 1978, in New Haven, Ct., Jonathan retrieved a stolen Les Paul guitar for my brother who was recording for A&M records at the time; then two years later, Jonathan was in South America with Peter Frampton when he lost his classic Black Les Paul. 12 years later, my brother found himself at Keith Richards' front door (Fairfield County, Ct.), guitar in hand (this time, a Gibson acoustic). He was invited. Keith and him would spend the night together at his house and jam out on old blues tunes; one of which was Robert Johnson's "You Can't Kill Me Twice". The day before he died, Jonathan showed up at my brother's deathbed.

Saw Grand Funk Railroad at Mad Sq Garden in Feb 1970. they Opened for Sly & Family Stone. Fleetwood Mac with Peter Green were also on that show. Sly pulled his usual "lets keep audience waiting" routine. Sid Bernstein was the promoter of that show. Grand Funk played just before Sly. As Sly was late in arriving , Sid kept telling Grand Funk to play another song. Think Grand Funks set lasted nearly an hour. The audience LOVED IT. Sly was good , but I think Grand Funk Railroad stole the show.

I was there, near the front on the far left. The sound was great, but Midori was cutting out occasionally. She never got flustered, though.

You know things are going well, as a band, when the stage crew is standing on the side, mouths hanging open and clapping.

I always wondered if Mel is Jewish?

WOW! There are not many bands in history that would want to follow these guys in concert. I heard even the great Led Zeppelin, who toured with GFR as their opening act, were blown off the stage by these guys. Peter Grant, Zep's manager, even had them removed from their tour. That's high praise indeed! Grand Funk, were grossly underrated, and the rhythm section of Don Brewer and Mel Schacher are easily one of the most powerful duos in rock history. Great live band, that unfortunately turned to commercial for my taste after the American Band album.

What an amazing experience! I'll never forget it.

Thats band is tight. This bass and drums changing tempos flawlessly. Absolutely no where to hide a mistake in a 3 peice band. I think they will get signed.

Looks like the band picked up some soul with the added strings. Something about this FNG gave them something new to my ears great job 👏

GFR.. Grand Funk Railroad out of Flint Michigan is one of the Greatest American Rock and Roll Bands ever. Like the Song.. they were the American Band.. of our Generation.. No one comes Close. For them to not be in the.......... Rock and Roll Hall of Fame yet is a Damn Shame... We all know that they Should Be.. Still Rocking Today.. Mark Don and Mel.. Carry On .... Peace Man..
