VIA Steam Heat Car (5" Lonergan 3-Chime)
On the Whitewater Valley Railroad's Polar Express. This old VIA Steam-Heat car provides all the steam-heat for 6 coaches on the train, and as an added bonus, has whistles mounted on her from time to time to add to the Polar Express theme, and it's the only time of year we get the chance to hear whistles.
And as you can tell, I'm channeling my inner Cass Scenic Railroad.

EMD Bronze Bell Restoration (Working As Intended)
Просмотров 2,2 тыс.10 лет назад
As some of you already know, I've had an EMD bronze bell that's had a nasty air leak since I received it. A few weeks before this video was filmed, I was attempting to get the bell apart and repair anything that would cause it to not work correctly. When I first took everything apart, the O-rings inside the motor were very worn and the O-ring outside the motor was broken. Oddly, the giant O-rin...
March 29th Horn Honk (K5HLs, K5HA Hybrid, & K5LAs)
Просмотров 4 тыс.11 лет назад
A buddy and I met up in Indianapolis to do some horn honking. For those of you that don't know, back in December, I received 3 horns as a Christmas present from a friend who works in a diesel locomotive shop. I only had the chance to blow two of these horns, but no big deal. We had a good time honking horns and now the tear down begins! Keep on the look-out for videos with the tear down of all ...
EMD Bronze Bell Rings For First Time in 35+ Years
Просмотров 1,5 тыс.11 лет назад
As the title states, My EMD Bronze Bell rings for the first time in 35 years. I received this as a birthday gift from a friend who works with my father on the railroad. This video is dedicated to him. Without him, this bell would've been gone forever.

Steam to the Grand Canyon - The Double-Header

First things first, I DO NOT OWN THE SONGS IN THIS VIDEO. Credit goes to ZZ Top and Jason Aldean. Also, Please excuse the wind noise in this video. On May 16th, 2012, ATSF 3751 and GCRY(CB&Q) 4960 made the 63 mile journey to the South Rim of the Grand Canyon. Before then, ATSF 3751 made a two-day trek across the desert from Los Angeles, California to Parker, Arizona, then from Parker, Arizona t...

First things first, please forgive me for the wind, camera stability, audio clipping, and the video quality. Also, I DO NOT OWN THE SONG ON THE BEGINNING AND END. Credit is given to Motley Crue. This video wouldn't have been possible without the people who helped with the information in this video. Thank you to the people that helped. You know who you are. CSX's CE&D Sub (Ex-C&EI) and NS's Sout...
Steam locomotives have whistles like that too!
Sounds exactly like the whistle on my museum's locomotive, Ex-Defiance Coal Company N° 1. Here's a link: ruclips.net/video/pSRFPI3c0vs/видео.html so I guess now I know it's a Lonergan on it. Lovely sounding 3 chime.
Raised letter k5la is queen of train horns
Awesome horns sounds good I subbed mind subbing back
Be nice to hear something besides that damn whistle.
If you haven't done so already, would you be interested in selling the 1977 K5LA?
Itza me toad: It's a 1978, and no, it's not for sale.
There is a still shot showing the crew in the cab of 3751 when it pulls into the Grand Canyon. I'm the one standing in the Gangway with the Bowler Hat. Is it possible for me to get a digital copy of that photo?
I think I can dig it out. Gotta figure out which hard drive it's on. My email is scsmiley19@hotmail.com. Feel free to send me an email.
maybe be a silly question but why do nearly all steam locomotives need a diesel helper engine ...? cant they pull trains anymore. ..?
I think, in this case, the diesel was there for mostly HEP (Head End Power) for the cars and would assist when needed.
Lucky! Where did you get them?
Mostly from other collectors and one from eBay.
That song in the beginning of this video was featured in the first Disney Santa clause movie. What's it called?
+Pinchie08 Gimme All Your Lovin' by ZZ Top.
+IndianaRailfan I found out at the end of the video. I have ZZ tops songs gimme all your love and sharp dressed man.
Great footage, I saw wheel slippage on BOTH 4960 and 3751 !!!!
How can I contact Tom Aker to order O rings for myself?
so cool
nice air leak.
Happens after so many years. It really needs to be taken apart and have the O-rings replaced. Just haven't had the chance to do so.
scsmiley19@hotmail.com
sure. just tell me your email address.
That's fine. Is there any way you could send me a copy of the zip file or at least everything that will be in the file? That's basically what he was going for at the time. K5HAs and K5LAs sound no different from each other. The only difference is visually. H refers to the high-profile manifold that the bells are mounted on versus the low-profile manifold (L).
do you mind if i use these sounds? i'll give credit as always. btw the K5HA sounds like an acela HYBRID K5LA.
NICE!!!
Csx trains are cool
"did" is not supposed to be there. Forgive me.
Totally understand. I tried to to keep that in mind when I did wrote the script for the video. Doesn't hurt to know those extra little tidbits. So, oh well. Thanks for the comments!
Great job on the editing Shane, although (personal taste) the narration is a bit long winded in a few spots where'd I'd just rather listen to the train and let them tell the story. (steam climbing 3.55% grade) personal taste though, and not meant to be a slam at all. Without being so rude as "Voice for radio", you really do have a good, inviting voice for narration.
Superb! That was a hell of a catch with all those Heritage Units
I was shooting video along this line the same day and saw many of the same trains. Excellent job here and the narration is great.
Awesome Video!
Awesome video!
This is one well produced video, keep them coming!
That was one MIGHTY FINE production sir!!! Five *****'s!! Very well done! I watched the whole video! The 10:00 had the INRD anniversary unit & 13:50 is the coal spill. Check it out folks!
Usually hear them off of the radio when they call signals, talk to other crews, MoW, or the dispatcher.
Great Video...... How do you know the Train Ids from CSX?
