I purchased this mower 25 years ago and still use it today.
i have used this pool deck stain and is horrible.. after one year it will flake away. It is cheap by comparison. If you dont mind a quick look before you sell your home or dont mind painting every year.. go this route
Isnt the simpson made in the usa engine to and all
Rubber shims or something?
Which one did you end up keeping?
The Simpson
Thanks for a great review.
Which one did you end up keeping and how is it holding up?
@@Yobrojoe-p1n I originally kept the predator but the pull start handle broke so I returned it before the 90 day warranty expired. I bought the simpson and have been happy with it. I use it to wash our cars and have done our pool deck, screen enclosure, tye front of the house and the entire driveway with no issues. The throttle down feature is very nice.
If im buying something other than a predator powered washer its having a honda engine. Honda engine+ triplex pump or predator with triplex pump or nothing. I really want the big boy predator but i believe my water pressure is too low to run jt
I had this product on my pool deck. It might help to mention the general area you're in. I'm in central Florida and the sun is absolutely BRUTAL on exterior coatings. And while that's a fact, it's also a fact that this product started chipping, flaking, and peeling in areas in under 2 years. Sorry, but that's unacceptable. I spent a year simply fixing/repainting areas, but this year I'm blasting it all off and redoing it all with a new product. This might be a decent solution in a milder climate, but it didn't impress me for central Florida.
We had some flaking when we pressure washed it. I recently had some new concrete poured and it seems to adhere much better to bare concrete than it does previously painted surfaces- even when using their primer. My only complaint is that when we went back to get more for touch ups it doesn’t match. Not sure if Dyco changed the formula or if it just got that much darker over time.
I have an old Simpson and all parts are readily available long after the warranty is gone. I have had predator engines for years, they start and run good until they don’t. Inside they are made and machined beautifully but I never could get even the simplest parts so I just threw them out and bought a new one. I like to keep things for a long time and I don’t worry about a warranty since I don’t have the time or the patience to force them to honor something that they don’t want to honor. I considered the predator but bought a new Simpson. It seems that Simpson is reluctant on their warrantee and I hope that the repair parts will still be available on this newer generation.
Im in the process of researching and purchasing one and have read many people stating that Simpson is reluctant on their warrantee. makes me iffy because of it, otherwise seems like decent machines and I have a tractor supply close by me.
@The-Fat-Kid "I like to keep things for a long time and I don’t worry about a warranty since I don’t have the time or the patience to force them to honor something that they don’t want to honor". 100% agree! We must be related somehow!!
Great video . Thank you for the info!
Have you used the simpsom yet for car wash? any issues withe the car paint if you have? ty
Run from harbour freight
Something to keep in mind is that HF is not good at having replacement parts available. I cannot find a detergent tank to replace my broken one. No aftermarket stuff, so I have to go through HF. I've been searching for days, called HF but then hung up because I didn't have time to wait on hold. Sent them an email, still waiting for a response. It seems that many other pressure washers have replacement parts available. When the unit runs, it's great, but this lack of parts really irks me.
Call the HF office in California
I guarantee the majority of bad reviews on the Simpson are from new owners that didn't know it won't run if the gas tank is topped off. It's a weird characteristic of the Simpson, I figured it out after exchanging the first one I bought with a full tank of gas in it. I got the second one to the jobsite, set it up, filled the tank to the top, it fired up but ran like crap for a minute and died, then wouldn't start. I read the quick start guide and it does mention to fill the gas to the fill line but it doesn't warn about over filling. After dumping about 10% of the tank out (into a bucket) it fired right up and ran perfectly.
Thanks bro
Thanks for the tip. Saved me a bunch of trouble!
Now that is freaking weird, who would have thought. I see you said you read the quick start guide, you think they would have put that in Large, Black, BOLD letters.
No not really I have a problem how cheap them caps are on the pumps then they don’t warranty them want 60 bucks I’ll never use Simpson product ever again they no good
I just got some tires and rims for my Chevy! Defender 265/65/18
This idiot is the reason why stuff is so expensive. Buy 2 pressure washers with full intentions on taking one back when it's perfectly fine. 🤡
What model truck is this
? Is that the 3400 mega shot or clean machine ?
? What is your opinion of the Simpson 3400 mega shot ? I am seeing some on sale for under the price of the Simpson 3400 CM61083 model ?
Which one did you keep ?
The simpson
@@shaneflowers418 very nice. I am shopping for a PW for my home and this review helped highlight Simpson as a solid brand
what do you think about a kholer engine? any good?
Great review. Thanks!
Finally!!! I got the same issue. I'm not the only one. Thanx for figuring it out
Great video. Which did you keep?I am about to retire my electric pressure.
I was going to keep the predator but starter handle broke and the store was out of stock on these for a while. Wound up getting a refund and buying the simpson when it went on sale. I do enjoy the throttle feature when using it to wash the cars.
Ok I plan on using mine for washing cars also. Thanks for update
Looking hard at the Predator 3200 and waiting for a spring sale. These Predator engines seem to be well regarded at this point. Without having one in front of me to look at, Im wondering how hard it would be to DIY some sort of valve on the inlet for a throttle.
I just got one. $359.99 on the Labor Day weekend lot sale. Normally $399.99 @ HF. His review is excellent. I am really impressed HF unit. I bought a Husqvarna at Costco. It was missing a critical part on the wand and wouldn't hold pressure. Returned it immediately. I did not buy the warranty on the Predator.
Do you think it is worth spending extra money to get the honda engine on the Simpson?
In my opinion, not unless you are upgrading to the CAT pump at the same time. The cheap pumps will go out long before the Chonda engines will.
@@shaneflowers418 Thanks for the info.
@@shaneflowers418 are the pumps on the simpsons cheap?
2018 tundra with rattle , took it to the dealer a few times. They found nothing. I crawled under it myself and I think not my be the chain from the spare tire. Maybe get a bungee on it and see what happens.. stay tuned lol
Any comment on the noise level?
They’re both loud. Typical small engine running wide open.
Great video, very detailed
Do the black cap on the spring part on the pump need to come off????
Did you ever find a fix???
I sprayed some lubricant around the rivets and it went away.
How has this held up over time?
So far we’ve only had to touch up a few small areas after pressure washing. I primed them again and made sure to wait at least 8 hours for the primer to cure.
yea we had a subaru plant here..the things came in and the back seat was connected, its just laid in the back.
I have the predator unit, i pulled the soap tank off and plugged the input to the downstream injector, and attached a ball valve at the wand handle and modified an x-jet to have a quick couple on the front for using the original variable nozzle or j-rods.
Could you share how exactly you did it and what you used please? I bought one and would like to do the same on mine😊
Hi @@MarkMill321please where did you buy yours and how much?
Can you do a video on how to start it? Like the steps
Now predator has 3 1 star ans simpson has 33 simpson also has way more 2 and 3 stars
Our pool was installed last Sept.... plain untreated brushed concrete..... shouldnt be slippery when wet after this product right?
I would still use the anti slip additive. It’s cheap and not hard on the feet at all.
Made in the USA must mean it was assembled in the USA
They put the wheels and stckers on in the US, LOL
The exhaust on the opposite side is great. I had a Craftsman with the exhaust on the same side as the hose and while psi washing my house up on a extension ladder the hose got on the exhaust and burned a hole in the hose costing me $50.00. From then on I zip tied the hose to the machine away from the exhaust! Lesson learned!
Worked for a half ass rental store that bought 3 of those Simpson's a year ago, only one ran when I started, got the other 2 running but pump had to be rebuilt on 1 not impressed. I'd pick a Northstar with a cat pump.
Hi Shane. I’m considering using this on my pool coping. How has it held up 9 months later? Any flaking or peeling anywhere?
I had some flaking when I recently pressure washed it. I primed those areas and touched them up with left over stain. Probably a quart worth of touch up. It seems to adhere much better to the areas that were not previously painted.
@@shaneflowers418 thx! Did you use dyco’s primer as well?
@@jakemarsh06 yes I did. I’m not 100% sure we let the primer dry a full 8 hours before we topcoated last time so that might explain the flaking.
@@shaneflowers418 thx! Last question, did you put any sealant down over the paint/stain after it dried?
@@jakemarsh06 no
Best time and price is during winter
The work horse is a very good engine also
How about model and price
Predator 3200 psi $349 on sale. Simpson Megashot 3400 psi $299 on sale.
@@shaneflowers418the Simpson is 429.99 at the moment. Going to wait for a sale on that one
@@The615JA it’s back up to $399 at my store. After talking to their (rude) warranty department at simpson I decided to keep the predator. The simpson warranty is just like northern tools. No valves or seals covered.
@@shaneflowers418 basically the warranty is better but it's useless so it's null and void as a deciding factor.
@@jimmygangster it may not be useless, but given the reliability of the engine, the pump will be the likely failure. And if the valves and seals in the pump aren’t covered, I’m not sure what is left.
Don't forget the restocking fee.
Yep. Good thing I was leaning towards the predator anyways. Simpson customer service was very rude.
Called the Simpson customer service number today to confirm warranty coverage is 2 years as listed on the box and not 1 year as listed in the manual. The warranty does not cover valves or seals - just like the powerhorse warranty.
Same engine
Hey Shane does the black cap on the spring thing on the pump need to come off
I have 00 tundra same noise but up front I'm going to try changing the transmission mount because I just spent almost three grand changing the whole front end
I realized its my cab mounts they have bolt heads that are touching the body because mount has rotted away so every bump the frame hits cab and makes a metal to metal clanking...but also had aliitle rattle from trans mount. Next is carrier bearing
I wish I saw this before I put this down. We had a light beige painted pool deck that we needed to repaint. Based on the colors on the can, the guy at Lowe’s recommended bone. Got it home and did a few strokes and it was pretty much white with a slight gray in it. Not even close. Immediately Brought it back and got khaki. We put that down but it is basically an off white also. It seems like all the colors are much much lighter than what is on the can. Not super happy with the color either but it’ll have to do for now. I do agree that it was easy to put down - just like painting a house. Next time maybe I’ll spend 2x-3x as much and get the Kool Deck stuff.
hows it seem to be holding up? I'm considering using it on my pool deck
@@brettnopper7902 I just put it down (2 coats) 4 days ago so, so far it is doing great 😃I am hopeful it will last a few years. The price was right at least. I didn't do much prep work either. I just power washed, caulked any cracks, vacuumed the pool deck and then rolled the paint on.
@@markfinnegan6038 what kind of stuff did you put down for cracks?
@@brettnopper7902 I had very small cracks. I just used DAP Concrete Siliconized Filler & Sealant that I got at Lowes for like $9. I did a thin line down each crack and then used a plastic putty knife to pick up excess and/or spread it a bit. I then followed up with a dry sponge to try to smooth it out and blend it better with the concrete. I should have blended more with the sponge though since I can see where the cracks I filled were (looks fine but id rather not see them at all).
@@markfinnegan6038is it holding up?
From other reviews I read, the non-skid additive is what's changing your color.
The color seems to be closer now that it’s cured for a while. Overall we are happy with how it turned out.
@@shaneflowers418 Ok, good. Thank you for the update because I'm trying to decide if I want to buy this paint or my original sherwin williams product which was twice the price.
@@charleschen8784 if it’s bare concrete I would go with Dyco or another concrete stain. If it’s previously painted, sherwin Williams might be better. We had to use the Dyco primer since ours was previously painted. I’m a fan of SW products but our local stores haven’t had decent inventory in a while.
@@shaneflowers418 Yes, that's a good call. I'm probably just going to buy 3 gallons of the sherwin williams stuff in the same color rather than 5 gallons of dyco. Mainly, I want to cover up the rust spots from my wife's plant stands and some high traffic areas where the cream color paint is showing through.
Very good review. I am also a fan of Michelin even though they cost a little more.
