Clickbait thumbnail. Thumbs down.
Ducks Foot was NOT a wild west Gun, it was used on Ships and Prisons, it was designed for Crowd Control, a Mob facing a Ducksfoot would think twice as one it could be loaded with Ball or shot and would be like walking into a meat grinder ..... as One shout could take out the front row of a mob....
YOUR TALKING ABOUT AMERICAN HISTORY IN THE WEST / SO WHAT IS THIS CRAP WITH THE METRIC SYSTEM USING METERS IN THE OLD WEST THEY USED THE BIBLICAL SACRED INCH AND 12 OF THEM = A FOOT / SO PUT THAT IN YOUR PIPE AND SMOKE / THE GREAT PYRAMID THE ONE WITH THE MISSING CHIEF CAP STONE ( AKA) CHIEF CORNER STONE IN SIDE MARKS ARE THE SACRED INCH THE SAME INCH IN NOAH'S ARK BUILD AND THE ARK OF THE COVENANT BUILD ALL GIVEN FROM GOD ALL MIGHTY HIMSELF / SO PLEASE GET WITH THE PROGRAM AND USE THE INCH WHEN GIVING AMERICAN HISTORY / THANK YOU / KEEP THE FAITH , JESUS SAVES
Love this piece, Thank you. Was the Winchester 1873 or the 1866 considered to late? Because they were game changers.
in other words any where form how many / ranger I read Of the 1st in counter the the rangers had with The Comanche Seems the one thing that stuck out of this written account by the Officer inc change is the # he said each man carried each man had to shoulder holstered ones and 4 hang one hos saddle Let be put what he had to say in our times words We blow them away few got away none of us hurt. Where did u think Bedford and Willian got it from Hell even Georgie had his men doing it in 1860 but was not 11 yr later
Jessie James may have had a Colt, but if I'm not mistaken he favored the Smith and Wesson. The 1500 meter shot, was I believe made with a 56 Spencer.
Cowboy westerns BS. Winchester 1873 is the best candidate for the title "The Gun that won the West", but it was an amalgam of many, many different types. Most people in the "wild west" couldn't afford either the Winchester nor the Colt Peacemaker. Way too complicated to call.
As both an historian and a Cowboy Action Shooter, I think that although you covered the major firearms, you did a GREAT DISSERVICE to not only the development of these firearms but also to viewers new to the subject matter: like the shortcomings of the Paterson leading to the massive power of the Walker, then the convenience of the 1851 Navy (which Hickok used all his life) and the power of the 1858 Remington - all before the 1873, which then dominated the West. I use converted 1858's and Vaqueros.
Exploitation and transformation... Hmm... sounds like how Nature works.
Some accounts say Wyatt Earp used a S&W Schofield at the O.K Corral, and Jesse James' favourite weapon was the Colt 1851 Navy, historical accounts that rely on dubious "eye witness" recollections are notorious to verify
What the hell is with the AI and metric dimensions? Not watching this sh !it.
Giving the distances achieved by the Sharps rifle in meters instead of yards was stupid. I left ya a thumbs down on the way out!
Yep I still think in feet and yards, and wish everybody did, BUT time rolls on and on and on
The 60's for me
I love the 60s, it has a different charm
What about the Winchester 1873?,or the 1866 yellow boy?
what is a doowell?
always find the idea of fanning fascinating, those hammers take a lot of cocking
There is a reason most of these weapons are not known very well mostly because they didn't work out well
How juvenile a presentation? "Lee-Matt" Please! Why don't you hire narrators or Voice professionals instead of AI-generated presentations? Get a French speaker to represent Louisiana's Dr. LeMat's true name accurately!
thanks for the suggestion
pretty sure and certain that you failed to spell Derringer or Deringer correctly...............
Wyatt use a S&W
Blessed are the peacemakers... black hawks are pretty cool too.
especially the old THREE SCREW Blackhawks, you welcome to keep them newer models however.
@@davidwood-g2o yah, I keep forgetting about those with transfer plate thingies being called Blackhawks.
@ Well in some ways being OLD has some advantage - more often than not however - OLD just causes aches and pains
Meters?? Speak American!
he did - european would be metres
First gun was designed for naval use for boat invasions, not the Wild West
You keep going from forward to backwards
So cowboys went from case ammo to black powder?
well.still got all my grey matter
Jesse carried a Smith &Wesson
Remington 1875: You keep showing this with the loading gate on the left. I have never heard of this. Was this an ACTUAL OPTION, OR WAS THIS STILL another incident of RUclips's habit of showing film clips in reverse?
the clip was simply mirrored in editing
Well said, seen this in car programmes where a car is normally right hand drive but suddenly left hand, and this in some almost documentary programmes.
That mirrored stuff, happens often here on You Tube, I sort of used to it anymore. Which does not mean I like it.
Not bad, a lot of good information. However, I think it would have been better to provide it in chronological order.
Yes, that was confusing.
Yeah no shit
Just what was that photoshopped pastiche in the thumbnail?
Unfortunately, to pull people in, see it so very often now, and luckily it was not as seen so many times now, a partially unclothed form, all for viewing figures sadly.
That was a Springfield trap door in the last clip over the sharps
You covered the use of guns very well.
tks
A kilo gram =2.2 pounds
That did not stop many famous Old West persons to use the Schofield and loving them.
A lot of the Calvary used the Schofield because it was easy to reload on horseback
@@tomrobards7753 They had to carefully manage the logistics of the different ammunition. It was doable. If it worked, good for them.
The Schofield failed: the Schofield 45 as shorter than the 45 long colt the US Army loved the idea that breaking open the revolver, having the spent shells ejected, and then allowing a galloping person to fill it again. The problem arose when the 45 Schofield ammo (could be fired in the 45 long colt - but the 45 long colt could not be fired in the Schofield (meaning logistics many times received Schofield revolvers with 45 long colt ammunition - thus making both useless.) Logistics killed the Schofield. Human error killed the Schofield.
It's "Load on Monday, shoot 'til Sunday!"
tks
I do like the fact that you added a clip of a Kentucky Ballistics video.
This is honestly very interesting. My 8th grade class just recently finished this time and are going to learn about WW1. I hope you keep making great videos like this.
Thank you so much for your kind words! I'm glad you found it interesting. Good luck with your WW1 lessons; that's another fascinating topic!
