Просмотров 8114 года назад
On June 13th, 2020, our MiG-15 and T-33 Silver Star took to the skies above Waterloo Region and Wellington County for a training flight and a few formation passes. While launching jets during a pandemic requires some extra precautions and different processes than a typical flight, our team was thrilled to enjoy some jet noise for the first time in months. To learn more about our jets, our team,...

I'm happy to tumble upon this. Thank you for preserving these stories.
Loved watching the Swiss Vampires fly over Zermatt in the 80-90s. Sad they're gone
I became a pilot after witnessing a low flying Irish Air Corps Vampire whistling along over the river Dodder near the Nine Arches in Dublin.
Parece que fuera de juguete...como sacado de un anime!!!!
i had a speech for cadets so i chose this story ✈🛩
Im building a Vampire in 1/48 scale. This video is definitely going to help!
My late Dad (also born '24) lived near the Hamilton Airport in east Hamilton and like George was enamoured with flying from an early age. Like George ITS Toronto 1942. But then 9 EFTS St Catharines. 14 SFTS Aylmer, wings (presented by Billy Bishop) then overseas and 7 AFU in Peterborough, England, flying a Master II. Unfortunately he died at only 57 so terrific hearing George's wonderful stories.
🎉🎉🎉🎉
She pays same but enjoys more 😂
Amazing! Excelent Job!
Great interview! As a DCS Mosquito pilot, I appreciate that you guys put efforts into preserving such great human stories.
@ 7:10 did he say balsa ??? 😂
It is a sandwich construction with a strong outer wood veneer (could be birch, spruce, etc - I am not sure what was used on the Vampire) and a balsa core. In later years sailing boats were built the same way except that they used fibreglass instead of veneers for the outer layers. The balsa is really just a spacer (often end grain for better crush resistance), in modern aircraft the out veneers are aluminium with an aluminium honeycomb for the spacer. Some later racing sailboats used resin pre- impregnated paper honeycomb.
Baltic Birch plywood
Looks like this exact jet is now for sale at $160k which is cheaper than I would expect.
because it old obsolete 40s tech extremely expensive to fly per hr $$$$
@@ezragonzalez8936 you have zero clue what you’re talking about.
@@andrewmosley2588 What are you talking about? It seems like you might be feeling upset or insecure. Why don't you return to your room before I call your mom? !! Cheers!!!
@@ezragonzalez8936 Think the insecure one is you. You get called out for what is clearly BS then whine like a little B....
I really enjoyed this interview. Great subject matter and the interviewer was pretty good too - not interrupting much at all - and letting the story be told.
Goblin Turbojet did not use cartridge start. I think only Nene Turbojet engines used cartridge start system.
Incredible man what an incredible talent excellent
What a Stunning looking Aircraft .... I am on the Wrong Side of 70 already and as a young lad, we lived in Goodwood in Cape Town, ZA. Close to us way the Wingfield Airforce Base and the Vampires used to fly from there and Ysterplaat Base on training flights .... Thanks for the fascinating vidclip ..... AND a LOT of Wood ..... See here .... Cheers from Christchurch, New Zealand ......
The sound of a centrifugal jet engine is like a lulluby.
Dad's favourite.
Nice :)
i flew the bat before the macchi 326 then the french lady the mirage 3 in raafservice !!!
I have dads, Sydney Oliver Liquorish Flight Log Book. Grand Total 1074 Hrs, 10 Mins, Also flew the camera man for the movie High Flight.
When I first started watching this video and without knowing the Vampire had some parts of the fuselage made of wood I was amazed . But now seeing it finished it’s just a beautiful job accomplished by just two men . Interestingly I watch videos of Vampires because growing up in the 60s I lived very close to the Indian Air Force Station at Tambaram in the state of Madras . Vampires were stationed there and I still remember the unforgettable whistling sound as they flew over our house coming into land . Cheers and thank you from Australia.
Ex Swiss Airforce DH-115. I saw those jets many time start and landing. I gow up close to the AF base "Dübendorf"
Pressurized? I think I read that some of them were and some weren't.
I once met George Stewart in 2011. We had a little five-hour chat.
Is there a way to get in contact? I am in contact with Alex Wilson's brother who was Bud Badley's navigator. I am sure George Stewart would be interested in what I know.
Beautiful fighter, an interesting material choice by De Havilland to utilize wood in a jet aircraft.
Fantastic series, always love hearing about the Mosquito, my grandfather trained pilots in WWII out in either Ontario or Alberta in the Mosquitos :)
A great airplane not too keen on the nose art !! a bit silly doesn't do it justice!!!!!
Good Video thanks. With respect to the navigator not surviving in the Georgia Strait. In the early CF 100 days the pilots were able to eject but the navigators were getting out because when the navigator reached up to pull the blast shield down and fire the seat the wind blast was catching their hands and dislocating their shoulders. They discovered this because a pilot told his navigator to eject, but was able to regain control of the plane and land successfully. They found the navigator still in his seat with both shoulders dislocated. To correct this problem they put a deflector in front of the navigator. I didn’t know that they had a second ejection option between their legs. But as soon as Richard mentioned it I immediately wondered if the navigator ejection problem influenced the navigator’s decision to use it? My Father was in CEPE at Uplands from 1962-64. He did some work on the runway arrestor gear there. Thanks Glenn
wheres the rest of the restore
did you remove the wings?? I know where a vampire is sitting i did ask the question about if it will ever fly again i was told no. however watching a lot of restoration videos for the vampire the demons would be a corroded fuselage or wing spar and tail section which i think could be fixed or replaced . Im not a pilot but what a nice aircraft to restore in my opinion. then around 25000 to get my licenses then come to you for flight training to get certified on the Vampire if that's possible . hmmm wonder if they would let me take off from the highway so i could restore it at home. .great job
I dont know if youll ever see this but could you reskin with carbon fiber??
I work on little snoring airfield for the light aircraft company & live a mile away in great snoring Monday morning I shall imagine George walking into the old control tower. So much respect for those brave men.
Made of wood ?
So sad to think what Canada has lost with its aero industry slowly widdled away
I love the mig15bis truly a masterpiece of mikoyan guverich
awesome job, I realy enjoyed the video
where do you guys find parts for your mig 15?
Imagine if england had had these during the battle of Britain.. ...
Can you tell me if George is still able and willing to do interviews?
Salute !
No cartridge start ?...
Excellent
Beautiful
They flew over Victoria Park that day when I was there!
Bravo Zulu Waterloo Warbirds. On behalf of our local Combat Engineers. Chimo!
