This is one of the finest motorcycle museums in the world and nobody talks about the fact that this Museum burned down and within a few years all motorcycles were replaced except for one. There was a display of the burned area behind plastic walls that showed how bad the fire was. It is truly a gift to the motorcycle enthusiast and is the way a museum should be run.

I'm trying to remove the centrifugal filter from a 1970 A-65 crank. The slotted plug took some work but now the tube inside does not want to come out. Anyone have any tricks on getting these out?

I rescued my mate twice with broken crankshafts on his A65. Devi or SRM work is mandatory.

Do these guys fill the crank with oil before they balance it? I have never heard of anyone who does this and I’ve always wondered why not just curious.

Conrods are 50 to 60 years old and are best in the bin. Billet conrods are the way to go. Just my two cents.

4:20 jumps past the rocker shaft removal. How do they come out? I tried tapping our right to left but not getting any movement. I don't want to get very aggressive with the Hammer!

Yes definitely need a re-bore if it is going to be a 750. Perhaps a re-sleeve to aye?

I had a '64 model thunderbolt and I replaced all the rocker cover fixing hardware with newly made studs that had BSF (lower half of the stud) and 1/4 " (above) and nickle plated dome nuts. BSF was terrible to work with, given the various range of sizes and I couldn't get tools to suit. I generally used metric substitutes and muddled through.

Love it. Reminds me of learning about Ducati quadrant kickstart gears the hard way. Bump starting in winter Edinburgh etc, But sussed it and got very lucky with Walkers in Norfolk

How come there were no cam followers fitted when the barrels were removed? This engine had been loosely assembled just for the purpose of this filmed stripdown, hadn't it? Nowt wrong wi that but why not say so at the start?

Lead free valve seat conversion? What is this and what is entailed? (and how much does it cost?)

It would have been great to hear the SRM people, If your going there to use their technical skills why talk over them all the time. Aren't they the experts?

Still recon one of the best BSA motors ever. A treat to work on.

With all due respect to SRM because I know they do great work , why is the crankcase not held in a jig ? It would make disassembly much easier and safer .

BSA cut corners, fixing these bikes would probably not be cheap.

I had a roller bearing job done on my A65 and resulted in to much weld that interfered with the Boyer electric , stopping the plastic disc from fully rotating , ie bike would start every kick then stop , Took a bit of finding and sorting out , I did message SRM about the problem but never got a reply ?

Ok.. video #1 shows top end disassembled. Video #2... starts at removing the primary drive parts. What about the timing parts. I’m trying to remove the auto advance plate. Manual doesn’t explain a lot

SRM, that reminds me of a time many years ago when i took one of the founders and his girlfriend back to Penarth from London with, if I remember right, a BSA single 500 that had broken down. Happy days, i seem to remember being fairly impressed with their set up even back then.

Great stuff...better to film the whole strip down,.narrate over the top and some close ups would be better though,..imo

Thank you so much. Great to see the experts at work and get some tips before having a go at home. Most of us don't do it often enough to remember the pitfalls. A fitter turner friend of mine said you don't need a micrometer. On an old Brit bike it's pretty obvious when something is worn out. Back in the 70's I could rip these down and put them back together in an evening. The alternative was catching the bus to work.

I cannot speak highly enough of SRM: I've had several jobs done by them, from cylinder rebores, complete head refurbishments, balancing, etc. and the quality is absolutely world class, flawless. I love this company and will always keep going back to them when I need something done. Thank you Rick and CB for giving us a peak into the operations.
