One week until we head to Utah for our last Total Archery Challenge of 2024! In this video, I go over my process for checking the tune on a couple of key areas for my bow to make sure it is dialed in for the long bombs in Utah! I will walk through my process for paper tuning, walk back tuning, finding the right sight tape, and confirmed a few shots from long range. Hope you enjoy! Paper Tuning ...

Building a practice routine that adds a little pressure to your shot and prepares you for hunting season is an important step for every bow hunter. In this video, I practice with three arrows from 20 to 60yds. All three arrows need to be in the paper to move back to the next distance. #gowithabow #hoytarchery #archery #archerytips #archerylifestyle #practicemakesperfect #arrows #bowhunting #bow...

    • @gowithabow
      @gowithabow 9 дней назад

      Depends on how my cutting is going on a given day 😁 most times like with this set I can get a nice square cut right off the saw, but when I do mess one up (with isn’t all the rare!) I will square it off with a sanding tool. I was just at an event where there was a new saw (modsaw I think is was called) it had a square tool built right in, if I ever upgrade to a setup like that I may square every one!

    Another good thing like this if using single pin find your perfect yardage to set sight at mine is 30 and then learn your bow and shoot 20-40 and know what your arrow is doing after 40 i move my pin lol! Good shooting I’ve been doing a drill like this for a while now really does help!

    I’m pretty new to the “precise” archery meaning I don’t know a lot about tuning compound bows… my local pro shop said that a paper tuning is a waste of time and they can get close enough without the paper tune what is your take on this… do I need to find a new pro shop? Also I should mention I just spent almost 4k in there on a completely new bow build

    • @gowithabow
      @gowithabow 17 дней назад

      Congrats on the new bow build! What did you go with? The "close enough" comment from them is telling :). For me I make enough mistakes as it is, just being human, so I am going to ensure my equipment is 100%! I have heard opinions on both paper tune vs no paper tune. IMO, paper tuning is an incredibly efficient way to get quick, real-world feedback on your arrow flight. There are so many factors that will impact down range accuracy, and I last thing I want to worry about if my arrow is starting off true or not. A paper tune is a no-nonsense way to confirm that very quickly. While it is possible to shoot accurately without confirming through paper, it becomes very hard to stay consistent without that true arrow flight from the beginning (especially with broadheads, and at long range.) All in all, my thinking is why not paper tune? It gives you a great starting point to make sure your bow tune and your arrow setup are ready to rock!

  • @timbow50
    @timbow50 18 дней назад

    Use the cool flex melt for inserts. You then just heat it up for a sec and the insert will come back out. Never had an issue of them coming out. Also great for indexing fixed blades

    Exactly why I never use instant glue on any inserts or points. My son would use it but he had a lot of inserts turn loose. Because the instant stuff sets up hard and the bond breaks? And in all our years we haven’t used that type of insert like you have there. What a bummer! No one ever has a new complete dozen arrows very long anyway but you got a head start on that.

    Group tuning is a great and all, but I robin-hooded twice within 3 1/2 weeks doing this. Once at 35 and another time at 45 yrds. I should’ve been using some cheaper arrows other than my Altra 23 premiums. That was a huge mistake on my part

    In all my 3-d (ASA HUNT CLASS)and hunting shooting I use the same arrow build. I also have a target bow setup for other ASA classes. I’ve had great results with Black Eagle Carnivores for several years now. I do very little shooting past 60 yards so the AAE max stealth at 2 degrees straight offset works great. I always, over 50 years) use two or four blade fixed heads. Brass inserts + head = 150 grains up front. I have never ever used a mechanical as that’s just an added variable setting up for failure IMO.

    • @gowithabow
      @gowithabow 23 дня назад

      That’s awesome and same line of thinking I have, shoot the same arrow everywhere and really get to know it. I saw the black eagle guys at the tent in PA a few weeks ago, we are heading to Utah next week and I will swing by the tent and check out the carnivores.

    Carter Wise Choice for hunting & 3-d ( the older model before they reintroduced the travel screw. It’s not new as the old old model had both travel and tension.) I also took it apart and did some work and polishing on the sear as it wasn’t true zero travel as it’s sold to have. Also the Carter Total Control hinge- indoor and some 3-d. Has two adjustable moons. Waiting to see what your next video subject will be. One of my favorite, least favorite lol, is shooting at an iron hog I made years ago. Based on a 200+pound boar dimensions I made it so I can make a 4” or 6” diameter hole right where the shoulder is. The real kill spot on a hog. This thing will play havoc with people’s mind set. Doesn’t matter if it’s 20 yards or 50. It’s the idea most it seems that they will miss the hole and destroy the arrow- so they a lot. Great tool for really getting the mind in the positive. Might pull this trick out on your friends not telling them until they come and shoot on video with you.

    Stop punching the button. Why not set it up so you can just pull like it was designed for? Do you ever feel target anxiety? Do you ever fire it as the pin floats by the spot?. Do you ever wonder why that arrow hit 3” right when you just knew the pin should have been on spot? Seriously, when you learn to just pull everything changes for the better. And at the last microsecond the pin will super steady up as the pressure increases and the shot breaks. I was a puncher deluxe for years off and on. Been there, no good. Yea, I know it works lots of times. Comes in handy hunting. But you can have so much more control over the whole shot sequence. You will eventually get to the point the break will come practically by itself at the moment you need it. Check out “ bow only outdoors “ learning video on how he uses a thumb. Excellent way to use one. Or “ whitetail fit” for his thumb button video. GOOD LUCK Mr. 👍👍👍

    Quite the challenge I’d say. I practice some in the wind up to about 25 mph but only to like 50 yards max. I feel I want the most control and past those parameters I just don’t shoot much.
