We do not own this video. From December 1936 to February 1937 members of the United Auto Workers organized a sit-down strike inside the General Motors Fisher Body 1 and 2 plants in Flint, Michigan. They ultimately won recognition of their union and improved wages and conditions. "With Babies and Banners" tells the story of the Women's Emergency Brigade, composed of female GM workers and the wiv...
The participants were named Genora Johnson Dollinger, Dellah Parrish, Nellie Besson Hendrix, Mary Handa, Babe Gelles, Helen Hauer, Lillian Hatcher, Laura Hayward, and Teeter Walker.
Solidarity to the strikers!!
Woow such brave and courageous music, so inspiring
Thank you
Shout out to members of the Fall 2020 DSA Labor on the 30's reading groups!
Michael Moore and Jane Macalevey sent me here.
I saw this film in 1980 when the local community college had a labor film series. I just watched it here again last night. This is one of the most stirring films I've ever seen. Watch it. You will not be disappointed. ~ Proud 40 year member, IBEW Local #1
What other films did they show?
the song at the end.yes. Does anyone know if there's a compilation that has this version on it? I found a faster newer Hazel Dickens recording but I like the one in this doc better.
Very inspiring, it remembers us that the only way to reach victory is to organize
wow
Allah's Messenger (peace be upon him) said: “The Last Hour will not arrive until the Euphrates uncovers a mountain of gold, over which people will fight. Ninety-nine out of every hundred will die but every man amongst them would say that perhaps he would be the one who will be saved (and thus possess the gold).” [Sahîh Muslim] Allah's Messenger (peace be upon him) said: “The Last Hour will not arrive until the Euphrates uncovers a treasure of gold, so whoever finds it should take nothing from it.” [Sahîh Muslim] ^remember this prophecy and don't participate in attempting to aqquire the gold
This is such an awesome piece of history!
What a great film. Class struggle at its finest. Men - Women & "Minority" workers struggling together. What an inspiration.
So banking is basically a legalized pyramid scheme...
If you owe you $100k and I owe you $100.1k, net debt is not too high. Similarly, if a bank owes their depositors millions, yet also their debtors owe the bank millions, I would not consider this to be a big deal.
What if I owned a bank. I partner up with a friend of mine which will be a third party. We planned that I lended him a huge amount of money in personal so that he can pay the debt that he borrowed from my bank. And we kept doing it simultaneously , and I will kept earning those "debt created money" and I will give part of it to that friend of mine so that he could keeps on borrowing money from my bank and paying back to my bank. What will that case be?
As I understand it, "owning" a bank is extremely difficult to legally set up under our global system. Only the existing bankers and their friends can control our money.
how do they started in the first place? I mean the legacy bank

A powerful film! A great cause!
I like the music in the beginning very much. However, I cannot find it online no matter how I search it. Does anybody know the source where I can obtain it?
I have a feeling this version of this song was written for this film. However, here is what may have been the original. ruclips.net/video/3arYWg7MtWk/видео.html
Shout out to Professor Cassidy's Women Gender Studies class.
What an excellent piece that still holds TRUE
The system is rigged and psychopaths have taken control of things. The more wealthy you are the less responsible you are to society and the greater harm you can induce through finances. It is no longer a war of swords and guns, it is a war of dollars and cents. That is how we are controlled. Honesty, integrity, loyalty, humanity, and love do not gain financial wealth in this world. Selfishness, greed, dishonesty, disloyal, backstabbing people are rewarded with financial success. What does that tell you about the state of affairs? We are doomed. We facilitate an ego driven, selfish society where financial wealth is rewarded by negative human traits.
Rich Magee tell me more, please
Rich Magee are you still there
Hi Jim! I would love if you posted this. I have the pleasure of living in Genora's LA home these days... and we are fascinated by her!
Hi there, I hope my explanation helps. The problem isnt money or banks if its sound money & sound money practice by banks. What we have now is called fractional reserve lending, where banks can loan money they dont have. Again, "Loan money they dont have." You go to the bank, they have 0 in the vault, you ask for $5k, they tell you okay, pay me back interest - they print $5k for you out of thin air, you work your ass off & you pay them back $5k+ interest with money they didnt have to begin with.
I'm really confused... Don't banks put money into the economy by exchanging it for goods and services? What about the people who work there? Lets say I borrow $5000 from a bank, and then I work at that bank for a paycheck for 3 years and over time I pay back the principle + the interest totaling $7000. Now I'm the owner of the thing I used the $5000 to buy and I don't owe the bank anything.. So where did the money come from? I'm lost....
Thank you for sharing this. The truths & struggle are as relevant then as today.
Needed that info thx
Buchta...?
Lyn, you did a great job on this production. Genora Dollinger was in incredible lady.
Bill which lady was or is your grandmother. Genora Dollinger was a relative of my ex-wife. I video taped an interview with her about her past union activities, in her back yard back in the 1980s. There was another video created by the BBC I believe, about Genora and her comrades. I can locate it if you are interested in having it.
The music over the closing credits is "The Rebel Girl", written in 1911 by the IWW's troubadour Joe Hill, and sung by West Virginia's great Hazel Dickens (1935-2011).
Bill: Good to hear from you. I am one of the producers of With Babies and Banners
So awesome, I actually own a 16mm print 😊!!!
Lynn, thank you so much for this film. I saw it when it came out and was thrilled to find it on RUclips. I've just shared it with a group of women from IBEW Local 1 and on my FB page. This is one of the most stirring films I've ever seen. I can't thank you enough.
Thank you for producing this - I just watched it for a college class. Even today, these women and their stories are inspiring and educating young people, so thank you for your important work!
Im writing a report on the women of the flint sit-down strike right now for my History seminar class at UCR. thank you for posting on this because now I know her name and I can quote her directly. :)
the interview was filmed mostly in my grandmothers house it was great to see this again after all these years im very proud of her strength and beliefs in what the womens brigade stood for and help change the future for workers. her name was Delia Parish and she states in the video she was the first volunteer to take food to the workers because the smell of tear gas didnt bother her.lol thats the lady i remember and our history with GM makes me proud to be a U.A.W. member. I loved that line! I got choked up a few times watching this film again. Bless your grandmother and all these strong women who were our foremothers in the labor movement. We could take a lesson from them.
Your grandmother's a real hero - and thank you for being a UAW member! Solidarity forever!
