I've begun reading this book & it's quite compelling on many levels---as straightforward autobiography, humorous observations & asides, unlabored self-deprecation, wry comments on British society, his awareness of his place in the continuum of history, & much else besides. On top of all this, Churchill conveys a vivid sense of the world in which he lived, i.e., the declining decades of the British Empire, a world now long-vanished.
