To me the reason Ed Wood is so good without any major Tim Burtin problems is because of its writers Scott Alexander and Larry Z, now you might know these guys from the People vs OJ, Dolomite is my Name, and the first two Problem Child movies and these movies play a role in Ed Wood, see Hollywood treated them like trash during the production of PC1, everyone was expecting the film to bomb, now the opposite happened and Hollywood got them to write Problem Child 2 (Which just to spite them they made a John Waters movie for kids, God I love them) anyways their experience during Problem Child made them sympathize with Ed Wood (Also probably Rudy Ray Moore, thus Dolomite is my Name) because after Problem Child 2 bombed they had major problems trying to be taken any more than a joke, like these guys had to work, meanwhile Tim never had that much push against him, like Tim can have a flop era and still get work, Scott and Larry made a hit from a small budget, and they still got shat on

I think if Burton could he would cast Johnny Depp as his male lead in every dang movie lol

Even though I disagree with some of your evaluations of Lupin the III part 1, this was an incredibly good video essay, and made me appreciate the show more. I only recently got into Lupin after seeing Cowboy Bebop, and hearing that Lupin the III was a major inspiration, especially the pre-Miyazaki parts, so I think that coloured my perception a lot. My favourite character in Part 1 was probably Fujiko, followed by Zenigata (middle aged men who keep being oppressed by life >>>) and then the rest of the characters.

So I’ve probably watched this video eleven times over the last two years. I hadn’t expected you to make more videos just due to the amount of fun you appear to be having with this one. Maybe there’s something there in that you’re having a good time watching Miyazaki having a good time. Maybe joy is a circle. This video (no matter how many times I’ve watched it) makes me laugh and makes my siblings laugh with me. The witty, off-the-cuff humor of your script style and the fact that you perfectly describe the relationship a lot of us had with media during COVID (I’m a hyperfixation person too) really gets me. I’ll probably watch this video once every few months for the rest of my life. Thank you.

All Burton cares about is aesthetic.. his entire reality is a goth kids outfit. And masterbating and or crying over the reaction of that outfit. Nothing more. There is something truly sickening when you see burtons face in countless characters over the years.

The truth is Tim Burton is just a pathological narcissist. Who is self obsessed with perpetual self insert, sacrificing all coherent story telling. Beetlejuice Beetlejuice is clearest example of this. His early career was made because he was held back. Unleashed he is terrible. He put his girlfriend in the film, why? Because he wanted to. Monica Belluci in beetlejuice 2 is one of the most incoherent character inserts in Hollywood history. Burton doesnt care, because everything he does is masterbatory.... which worked in the younger part of his career, Edward and Lydia, but is grotesque for someone in their 60s and beyond , Burton has no empathy for any one other then his own self and tastes, hence why he is a terrible story teller. Elfman, Depp, Keaton, Henry, and more Burton than Burton.

I have returned for a rewatch and 6:05 is some of the most DATED shit I've heard- _minor ecological damage is a good way to rid of this personal annoyance_

I just watched Green vs. Red for the first time, and I was having a hard time articulating how I felt about it until I remembered this video, and holy shit you really hit the nail on the head with this one. I can't wait for the Fujiko Mine video because as I'm sure you know there's a lot to unpack lol.

I should have known this would be a political insert, these types of videos always are. something tells me if a black director chose to never hire a white person, miss thing over here wouldn't bat an eye. and as you know, he really enjoys that old, cold, british vibe. shoving in minorities just to meet a standard would be so out of place. the same would apply to trying to insert white characters in a movie that's set in a time before europeans arrived in africa. and of course, someone's going to say that black people were around england during the time of whichever one of his movies, but most likely as slaves. then they'd complain that the black characters are slaves. so, do you want people to ignore history in order to shove minorities into a movie? because I know you'd bash someone for not bringing that history up. it simply can't make sense, it just contradicts itself over and over and over and over again.

I can honestly say that this is weirdly the most intense autopsy and therapeutic video I’ve seen. For both an aspiring artist and as someone who is just starting to grasp how big the world is. And the steps I need to take to resolve some stuff. I’m going to take a long walk to think about things. But whatever the case may be, this is an amazing video!

I think I was introduced to Lupin and oddly Beetlejuice around the same time now I love both “funny horrible man who’s horribleness varies across depictions” because I can imagine an impossible perfect redemption arc. like Miyazaki did for castle of calgiostro, ah yes this is when he’s matured out of his monkey punch ways.
