2nd year in D1 Southern Indiana women's basketball team are the OVC champions, won the OVC tournament and won over 20 games. The USI softball team lost to SEC school Alabama 2-0 and the USI baseball team lost to SEC school Tennessee 2-1 and to Big 10 team Illinois 2-1. I say Southern Indiana is doing really good in our 2nd year in D1.

A football signee for Grand Valley St. said they were going to D1. But, haven't heard much, if anything, since that happen. Is Grand Valley St. on the OVC radar? Are there other D2 programs that interest the OVC? Or would they prefer to have D1 members, like Western Illinois?

Harry, are you going to be able to watch the live stream vote the USI Board of Trustees are going to do on moving to Division I or staying Division II?

I Just read the February 2, 2022 USI newspaper "The shield" and it stated that in August 2021 a Division 1 conference did invite USI to join their conference. Looks like the OVC is ready to let USI in. Its all up to the USI board of Trustees.

I have been talking to USI fans on the internet. Right now the main issue is cost of going Division I. Raising student fees is a sticking point

I do not know if you have gotten the information but the Evansville Courier and Press is reporting the USI Board of Trustees will have a special executive meeting on Monday February 7 followed by a 1:00 pm Central time public vote to move up to Division I or stay Division II. The public vote is scheduled to be live stream on you tube.

I don't know how reliable the source is but on "Major Madness" twitter site is reporting "Southern Indiana is expected to join OVC. Also Chicago State's OVC bid was declined".

Part 2 Location wise If USI joined the Horizon League then USI would be the southern most school in the conference. If USI joined the Asun conference USI would be one of the most Northern school in the conference. But in the OVC USI be the most centrally located school in the conference.

Part 1. I have some evidence that if USI goes Division 1 then USI would join the Ohio Valley Conference. On the report to the USI board of Trustees the exploratory committee said if USI wanted to go to Division1 then the athletic budget would have to increase from $6.6 Million to $12 Million. According to you tube channel D1 360 based on the 2019-20 year $12 Million would be on par with the OVC. Were as in the Horizon League only two schools are below the $12 Million and be on par with with Purdue-Fort Wayne but USI would have a $100,000 to $6 Million less athletic budget with the rest of the schools. Also in the Asun conference has only two schools with less than a $12 Million athletic budget and USI would have a $900,000 to $35.8 Million less athletic budget with the rest of the schools.

Just to give you a update The Evansville Courier and Press has reported the USI Board of Trustees will have another meeting January 18 to discuss the possible move to Division I. Looks like things are heating up for the next several weeks.

Get Western Illinois in the Ohio Valley and invite Indiana State, Southern Illinois, Illinois State and Missouri State as football only conference members.

The board of Trustees are going to vote in February if USI is going to move up to Division I
