Lovebirds chirping at their own video
We filmed my Herbie (the green Cheeto-face) and Holly (the yellow banana) with our cell phone and then played it back for them. It was like having an instant flock of birds! :)

My tribute to Sky Whirl at Six Flags Great America in Gurnee, IL, which was removed at the end of the 2000 season. I'm a sentimental chick who was really sad to see some of the history of the park get taken away from us. It was a classic and it is still sorely missed to this day, but from people I know who once operated the ride, they told me this ride did not age well at all during its later years in operation which is what caused it to be taken out. The many moving parts the ride had began to become costly to maintain along with getting new parts which had stopped being produced in the 90s. Each wheel held by an arm had a center motor that was vulnerable to water which would seep into motors resulting in them to fry and the metal arms to rust.
Back when six flags was the best place to be at. This ride was my favorite, and the one at six flags great America lasted the longest. I got on from like 1995-2000, I was only 10 years old when I last got on it. Closed in 2000 after the season

It mostly was scrapped but the park did keep a few of its cabins to remember it and they bring them out every Fright Fest in the Six Saints Cemetery along with other parts of retired rides

Never rode it my dad didn't like the chains that held the cabins up there So I missed out I was too small when we went and then it was too late. Missed out on Hay Baler too!
I feel like that the rides that thay torn down is what made the super popular but now that shockwave iron wolf tidal wave and z force are gone the parks not the same

Once at Fright Fest they had one of the buckets out so you could take your picture in it. Me and my sisters went in it and it was cool. Also skeletons are in some of them in the Six Saints Cemetary: A graveyard of the past attractions of Great America.

I was born in 2004 so I can barely remember any of the old rides and attractions that used to be there. So this and other classics are really fun to watch. I wish I could ride Shockwave and Iron Wolf but I can't 😕 At least you had fun at the chance
Actually, if you head all the way over to Maryland, you can still ride Iron Wolf. It got moved to Six Flags America and renamed Apocalypse, but last month they started converting it to a colorless design.

Computer modeling of park traffic flow. Too many guests were taking mid-afternoon breaks on it instead of playing gay-ass carnival games or stuffing their gut at the concession stands.

Why the fuck they get rid of this? Ohh I bet because the ride was too long and kept people away from those gay ass $10.00 carnival games.. It gave an aerial view of the park in "real-time" and it would allow you to quickly find the stuff you wanted to visit. Thereby spending less time milling around on ground and getting lost and bumping into them stupid gift shops.

I recently completed a scaled model of this ride using a Knex motor drive & gear, with pin-wheels that I picked up at Khols last July. I used yo-yo tires for the gondolas and dressed it up with a patriotic theme, complimenting it with a strobe string of lights. Although I never rode this ride (I'm in GA), it has always remained in my top 10 of amusement marvels - one of the most attractive rides ever to grace a skyline. Thanks for this video by the way. It's rare to see this ride on video.
I never heard about a girl getting hurt falling from this ride..I only heard the the girl getting her foot cut cut off by the Superman tower of power ride at Six flags Kentucky park in 2007!! When did this happen? what year?

For years we had season passes, and when we were tired (and needed a rest), we rode the Sky Whirl because it was a relaxing, breezy, long, ride with great views. Fun memories with RPD & EED. XO ~Mom
AWWWWW Geeez this was one of my favorite rides back in the day when we used to go to great America.. I never knew it was gone now!!! I havent been to Great america since mid 90's!!! but this ride was so relaxing and long..Who cares about the tidal Wave being gone, but this ride needs to be rehired , and let it makes its way back in the park where it was happy...LOL
