DNA test prep - Odie 150624
I finally bought a DNA test for Odie and then I thought I better see how I need to collect the sample! Today we had a session building on other behaviours to introduce the swab (or cotton bud in this case!).
1. Reinforce the chin rest.
2. Little reminder of our lip lift and rubbing his teeth with my finger using chin to hand (already taught).
2. Introduce the ‘swab’ - I did a bit of targeting with him.
3. Then we use the swab as the start button reinforcing for a chin rest after the swab is introduced. We get a lovely cheek to swab chin rest here.
4. Start to bring in hand over the nose movement.
5. Touch hand to nose.
6. Hand to nose with a lip lift.
7. And finally, for now, lip lift with a touc...

Cooperative eye exam - Odie 270524
Просмотров 2415 месяцев назад
We’ve been working on “in-your-face” husbandry stuff. Here I get close and use a pen light trying to simulate an ophthalmascope. We do so much weird husbandry stuff that Odie is pretty ok with everything at the vets but this was the one thing he was worried about so I wanted to work on it in case it happens again. This is only our second session and he’s already really cool with it. Martin like...
Teaching a stand - for Mia 130324
Просмотров 5318 месяцев назад
Now corrected! So sorry everyone who watched this thinking it was how to teach a sit! I just realised I uploaded the wrong video. 1. Wait for a stand, when it comes click/"good"/"yes". 2. Lure into a sit with treat and wait for next stand. 3. Repeat! You should be able to fit a lot of reps into 1 minute and that's probably long enough for a session. Repeat 3 times a day.

Target Transfer - Odie 10224
Просмотров 3599 месяцев назад
We’re currently doing the Tromplo course “Off Cue” with the amazing Catja Pedersen and we are working through a huge list of basic behaviours! Today we had some fun with Cue transfer - so first is a hand target to a target to my face (he snook in a kiss too!) and the other was a chin to hand target which transferred to a chin target to our new Yorkshire Blankets pouffe!
First full massage session - 051123

Thanks to Alba Physiotherapy in Inverness we have been working through a Canine Massage Course and today was our first proper massage session (the demo video was added after the rest of the module, and after I’d done the rest of the module so I’m a bit late to the party!). I think it went well and I think Odie enjoyed it. I didn’t find any issues with him and nowhere that he communicated that h...

We signed up for Hannah Branigan’s 21-day Heeling Challenge workshop. We’ve never done any kind of obedience before but I love a challenge! This is our ‘Before’ video lol! #needswork #awesomeheeling
Blood draw prep - Odie 190723
Просмотров 81Год назад
Short session with Odie tonight. Blood draw prep which has been slow, not enough hours in the day! Going forward we’re doing short and sweet sessions before dinner which Odie will prefer I’m sure and it will stop me pushing him too far! Today we added in the clipper sound then some vibration. Rhum is a distraction at the patio door behind the camera! Odes has a swelling on the right side of his...
Injection practice - 150723
Просмотров 31Год назад
Martin is now on Solensia for his arthritis and it is costly (the stuff itself is nearly £60 a shot and that doesn’t include the consult). It involves monthly injections which means crating and then a car journey of 20 minutes then a wait at the vets. Our vet suggested that I could do the injections at home… so a wonderful vet nurse gave me instructions on what to do and a syringe and needle to...
Prepping for a blood draw - 290623
Просмотров 73Год назад
After consult with our vet the blood draw that Odie will have in August could be either a jugular or leg draw so we’re prepping for both. Next steps, add in third person, sound of clippers, add in props and increase duration.
Cooperative blood draw mock up - 190523
Просмотров 23Год назад
I saw some totally inspiring stuff this week in the Karen Pryor Academy Cooperative Care course with the amazing Laura Monaco Torelli and the 8 excel teams. This was both in the lecture and the live zoom class. So I wrote myself a training plan for a cooperative blood draw as Odie needs a blood test in August. I started with our middle behaviour (which is not fluent and needs work!) and added i...

Training for Dremel use start to finish - May 2023
Просмотров 50Год назад
- introduce sound with no fuss, I did it while I was sitting working as he’s usually with me. - introduce Dremel in training session, reward investigation of it. - move it around and near paws, sound on and off. - using pasta, introduce the sound of grinding so the dog can get used to it (sounds like nails being filed!). - grind pasta near paws. - build all this up slowly keeping an eye on your...
Imtroducing the Dremel - 080523
Просмотров 20Год назад
I started with introducing the noise of the Dremel while I was working today, so I intermittently set it off over a period of 15 minutes. Then tonight we did lateral recumbency while it was in his environment and he was so comfortable that I started it going and he decided to target it himself. Really happy with our progress…AND LOOK AT THAT KITTY STATIONING!!!
Husbandry on a hike - 060523

When we went out today we did a bit of chin targeting, nose targeting for teeth exam, through the legs for tactile, stationing (we are there!!!) and ‘cuddles’ while sheltering in the abandoned horse box! I am loving the Karen Pryor Academy Cooperative care course with Laura Monaco Torelli!

Great work.😊
What The???? Whats a blood draw? Sounds like Medieval tourture
Well done
The sweepiest sweep that ever did sweep! Much love for you, Kevin and oodles 💜
Thank you lovely lady ❤️
Good video! I like how you gave him something else to do when he offered an incorrect response.
Thank you 😊
Do you do the target cue with an open hand? In the beginning, you can see he's a little confused about why he doesn't get anything for booping it with his nose. It's very sweet to see him try to work it out. I also notice that later on he really favors chin resting with his face towards you. It's really interesting how much you can pick up from a video, I should start taping my own sessions se if it might be easier to pick out where things go wrong/right :)
BlaisZeroni hi there, thanks for stopping by my videos and for your comment 😃! So I don’t cue the chin rest, the towel is the cue, I don’t really like to cue it because it is optional, i.e. he can say no way if he wants and we just wouldn’t do the session. My raised hand is to show him that something is coming but it probably is a little confusing to him at first because it’s also how I usually ask for a ‘touch’ (I hadn’t considered that before 😳). Yes, I really struggle to get both my dogs to line up straight and Sweep for sure always orientates to me, he takes so many cues from body movements and video has been massively helpful at letting me see things like that. He’s way too savvy for my training ha ha ha! I totally recommend filming, it gives you a great record of your training and it is so helpful if you’re struggling with something, it’s helped me massively 😊. Hope this helps!
@@carolmilner1686 Thanks for your reply! I really enjoy watching your videos, it's so nice to be able to follow a process on a behaviour instead of seeing a neatly edited video that gets perfect results in 3 minutes. It teaches me so much as a trainer as well, especially little things like you ran in to here with the "touch" cue, interesting to see that someone who does not know the animal is able to see this clearly while when working with our own animals there is often a blind spot to certain things like these. Feedback can be so valuable, and that is exactly what I'm hoping to get once I start filming my training sessions. I'm a bit shy about it but there's so much to gain it seems when looking at your videos. It's good to see how far your dogs came in a year's time... Working with my cat on husbandry has got me a little down as there is so little progress so far... it's a real struggle. Your channel gives me hope :)
Rhum for sure wants in on this game! I did learn recently that cats have a much more sensitive sense of smell than dogs, been thinking of doing scent work with my cat XD
