    Very innovative. No need for suspension. Replace only 2 rear wheels with balls on a trike or a go cart. Solves your braking issues.

    Hi Thomas, Want to ask what thickness metal sheet did you take for the shell of the chamber?

    • @thomaswompyward447
      @thomaswompyward447 Год назад

      Hi there, I used 3mm mild steel. This is quite thin so I added gussets either end as any flat surface with be a weak point and tend to buckle. If you are making plans to build a chamber I recommend over engineering it to be on the safe side.

    • @abdussamadshaikh3467
      @abdussamadshaikh3467 Год назад

      @@thomaswompyward447 thanks for the information. I made a similar circular chamber of 400 mm I'D with 5 mm plates. Moreover I have the ends dished torispherical. It's quite safe but it has become too heavy. So I was thinking of making a lighter one. However your assertion has cleared my doubt and I think the 5 mm one is okay from buckling point of view.

    Try freeze drying. Try low water content foods. Freeze the item first over night, than pull a vacuum on them. as the water sublimes, it keeps the food cold during the process.

    Subscribed. Do you know if a homemade vacuum chamber can achieve 1 mbar (0.75 torr, 0.75 mmhg)? 0.01 mbar? Might that be possible in a rectangular chamber around 600 mm x 300 mm (24"x12")?

    • @thomaswompyward447
      @thomaswompyward447 2 года назад

      Hi Jonathon, thanks for subscribing. I think the level of vacuum depends on the pump you have. I was only able to draw it down to -13.5psi. Absolute vacuum is around -14.5psi. that last 1psi is difficult, my pump wasn't able to get it but if you invest $200 or so on a good pump I'm sure its possible (as long as there is not leaks in the chamber). Probably should note that if you make a 600x300 chamber make sure you use thick Perspex 25mm or if using steel10 - 12mm, as the pressure will want to crush it. Thanks for the question Jonathon :)

    tell us about the pump. what kind of vacuum levels are you getting?

    • @thomaswompyward447
      @thomaswompyward447 2 года назад

      Hi Bob, I'm getting down to -13.3 PSI on the gauge so there is still 1psi I can't quite draw down. The pump is a two stage type that I gone it off eBay and am unsure of the branding. Possibly that's the best it can do. I can't here any leaks from the glass or vessel so am concluding I've maxed out the pump.
