OPEN BAFFLE UM18's + KEF 3001C
Took me a while to get to this hybrid configuration by trial & error....but was worth it.
This is undoubtedly the best speaker combination I have had in my system.
After spending years looking for the best open baffle arrangement, I found these closed box KEFS to work best in the upper bass to treble range, and the No-Baffle woofer arrangement to work best below 100hz.
These pods are sealed. Due to their shape & construction (cast aluminium) there are is no resonance or boxiness. Being virtually baffleless, they also achieve a very open baffle presentation.
Certainly, I have been using OB speakers exclusively for the last decade, but dont miss them.
The only modification to the KEFS was to dam...

No-Baffle DIY speaker system Pt 1
Просмотров 54 тыс.4 года назад
My 15 year speaker journey has lead me to this: From countless commercial boxed speakers, to DIY boxed speakers, to DIY open baffles, H-frames, W-frames, U-frames, to no baffle ladder frames and finally, metal scaffold frames. This woofer assisted wide-band (no Tweeter) configuration represents performance, relatively low cost and simplicity..... .....no crossovers with a separate DSP amp drivi...

My 15 year speaker journey has lead me to this: From countless commercial boxed speakers, to DIY boxed speakers, to DIY open baffles, H-frames, W-frames, U-frames, to no baffle ladder frames and finally, metal scaffold frames. This video shows a photo timeline of the speaker projects that eventually lead me to the final design. The idea of this video is hopefully to give you a taste of what the...

Hi very excellent video indeed I was really looking for something of the kind First of all my sincere congratulations I have some comments Two actually 1) i really think that a high pass filter should be applied to the arrays If you send to them also the low Hz the IMD will increase for sure 2) have you considered a D'Appolito arrangement for the drivers in the arrays ? i mean with the smaller drivers placed in the middle of the arrays ? disclaimer I love D'Appolito concept immensely Thanks again and kind regards gino
What is the cost of the loudspeaker?
This is out of the box design, very literally
Thank you for all you have done by expressing your creativity through experimentation and implementation. I lament not being able to buy a Salvation/Terminator rig while you were still in business. For the money I can't think of a comparable player that could compete as I still read of positive comments from still enthusiastic owners. Wish you could come up with something new based on everything you have learned so far.
First time I hear big, pure sound in basic room . Very impressive
I am so intrigued at this moment.
Очень хорошее звучание. Вот к какому звуку надо стремитья. Интересно как они отыгрывают другую музыку, джаз, блюз, рок.
Your link isn"t working by the way.
Fookin eck, they're mental. Amazing work mate.
CLARITY 😂IS AMAZING IN FULL RANGE,,YOU NEED A GOOD STEREO MICROPHONE TO GET ,,NO BOUNCY SOUNDS OF WALLS,,CHAIR, 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉 PLAY "GEORGEO" HITS OF 1970S 😅😊
The best baffle is no baffle. Took you a while to get here, but welcome to the club. Your bass is still subject to distortion, but it is better than a lot of other methods being used.
Garbage thing
Im confused with those 18 inch subwoofers just mounted free air like that. Won't that just end up with a ton of cancellation?
Amazing
Music tells you nothing.. Play classical something from Das Rhiengold..
Is is this your reference sound for testing?😶
The most underrated kinear tracking arm ever!!!!?.
Horrible music.
You have created an open baffle bass section (dipole) with a point source mid-high section (omni). May I suggest a next step: to use 4 KEF 3001C's, two per channel back to back in counter phase to also create a dipole mid-high section? I did this experiment with 4 KHT 2001's: The imaging becomes a lot better than with two individual KHT 2001's running as omni's! I might even remove the backs and the ports to directly drive the 2001 woofers and tweeters in bi-wiring mode.
Late to this party…just wanted to thank you for confirming what I’ve been experiencing with zero baffle. You have a tremendous amount of experience and knowledge compared to myself. Good luck to you!
Hi. Thanks for sharing all of your buildings and tests. I spent a great deal of time checking everything that you did. I have finally built similar bass unit's and can confirm it's amazing. I use 18" RCF drivers. Many many thanks for sharing. I have the 18" on behringer as you to 95hz then two sets of 4 x 8" scanspeak isobaric traditional sealed towers from 70hz to 800hz passive on traditional xover then a pair of original Heil AMT tweeters from around 750hz. Not sure if you read these comments but if you get a chance to hear ESS Heil amt's try them i am sure that you will love the sound.
oh sweet lord
Imagine how much that system cost, wow
Congratulations ! This is power energy ! The sound is amazing !
These look amazing i would love to actually see how they are built, and some better detail, maybe a description on how you did everything….. they look really nice thanks for sharing
Nice speakers. Thanks for sharing. That music does not tell us much about their ability. I see the bass units running to the limits of their excursion but I just don't know if I hear it. If you play a natural well recorded acoustic piece with full range covered, we might know what these can do.
Very cool setup. I found your stuff just recently when I was looking for open-baffle sub designs. I've been a fan of open baffles for a while, but now I have to try this baffle-less design I think!
HELLO ; KIRK HERE. THANK YOU FOR SHARING THIS AMAZING "DIY" SYSTEM. I'M ALWAYS TRYING TO IMPROVE SOUND FIELD AND SND. DYNAMICS. I TRULY THINK YOU SHOULD ( PATENT) THIS DESIGN AND CONSIDER RETAIL MARKET !! THANKS A ZILLION ; KIRK'OUT'PEACE
What exactly did you do to the Kef 3001s? Please help me understand.
Re
Great setup, what is the song name or album ?
I would like to hear some normal music on this, like"Keith don't go" or "beautiful life"
How about no
Super sound
Great work, thanks for the inspiration. I'm planning to buy UM18s in the next days and start building my own monster. Most likely with Quad ESL in mid/high. I saw you went active. How did you deal with potential timing issues between the woofers and the speakers?
are the subs wired out of phase?
Very nice. Great build. More no baffle than Open Baffle. Sounds good but no justice to sound when played back on a PC watching a youtube video.
What's the purpose for woofer face to face? Wouldn't the back wave of the first woofer just cancel out with the front wave of the 2nd woofer? Doesn't look like the isobaric load either. Does this improve sensitivity?
Hi, I am building a similar setup. Please could you explain you 18" woofer mounting. it looks like it is floating how did you accomplish this please?
Very interesting
Turntables and speakers. You can build your own for 1/10th the price. DIY something like this for $3k, don't pay 30k. Open baffle speakers for $1200 in parts will sound better than anything under $20k.
When will you bite the bullet and redo the subs using the Dayton Audio Kraken 21" subs? That would be a revelation to hear.
Hi. Interesting solution! It's without crossover, what a scheme connection?!
bravo ! speaker mis is faithall ,no?
Those things are straight up prototypes to KEFs top of the line Blades. Thats why they're so oddly over engineered. Their siblings the 3001SEs became the LS series.
"Cheese burger cheese burger cheese..." Awesome lyrics!
Do you offer plans to build such spesker I have no crossover experience can you share crossover file
Excellent design and demo! Aaahh just imagine what those subs can do if they had a box. Dj magic mike feel the bass baby😂
I can confirm they don't sound as good
And did you try to turn the 18 elements other way magnets facing other magnet ?
Have you done DML speakers ?
Very beautiful! Best speaker !
