Morals are based on empathy. A politician who feels no empathy for the poor will have no problem further reducing workers rights and removing their safety nets. You can use shame to change their behaviour to be more morally just, but that will not make them build or tune their moral compass. What these people need is a sense of empathy.

Hi. I own a us manufacturing facility. If you want to bring manufacturing back, stop making raw materials wildly expensive. Take the steal terrifs. How can I compete when the rest of the world is buying the same material at 1/4 price I pay. You aren't hurting china, and you're not bringing the steel industry back. It's just hurting your own people.

Those are self inflicted wounds. People say they will buy American, but given the choice, 9 out of 10 people will choose the less expensive one. Then they'll complain about why the jobs are being outsourced. Union people are notorious for this. Want high wages but buy the imported goods instead of the ones being made in America. Hey, I want a flat screen in every room in my house, but if it was made in America those $600 TV's would cost triple. And those are the facts! $20 minimum wage = $15 big mac meals. You can't have it all!
