    I enjoyed your talk. The books are a great inspiration. When I shoot the streets in my hometown, Indy, I like a prime because I am more focused on the photography, and I know if I miss a shot because I had the wrong lens, I can come back another day and shoot again in the same location with a different lens. When I travel I want my X-t3 and a 16-80 zoom because my focus is the new location. I my never be back. Everything looks new and I want to get every shot. I also don't want the weight or the fuss of multiple lenses. Can I make a request for your videos? Please improve your audio. You are too far away from the mic. It is so much better when you are right up on it. With that mic you should be so close that you cannot have a book, or bag, or camera between you and the mic. Maybe a different mic, but definitely get closer. Thanks for your videos

    and to answer your questions: Ruts: I walk the dog and don't take the camera with me. And I miss a flock of geese at the park... But seriously, getting out with the dogs means I have to focus on them and not the stress of the rut or anything else on my mind. The question of lenses: I've had the Fuji 55-200mm zoom glued to my X-T3 lately, shooting at one end or the other. And then the Fuji 35mm F2 is small enough I can put inside my jacket pocket and that's all I need. I do like the 18-55 kit, but I don't use it often for street. At least not yet.

    Yeah - a few things. I have just changed from an 18-55mm, 55-200mm combination to a 23 F2 prime and 18-120mm combo. This means that if I go out in low light and find I need better low light performance, I switch to the 23 F2. For all other circumstances I use the 18-120mm. This is quite a compelling package for travel, as the F2 lenses are so small - you can literally just put them in your pocket for when the 18-120mm does not give you what you need at that time. That is becoming increasingly rare for me though. I used to have at least 4 lenses to cover all of my needs, and for travel especially this became unsustainable. I have now completely taken out all complication out of my life with this combination. I might get at some point real focal length increase when needed with with a 100-400, 150-500 or perhaps even the 500m prime. But for now, as a hybrid shooter who travels a lot, my combo is perfect for me.

    Thanks for the shout out and using my recommendation of Sean Tucker. I'm reading Sean's book "The Meaning In The Making", and it's eye-opening to ask myself the simple question of why I am shooting and what I am looking for. I'm realizing that when I go out and about, even without the camera, I start looking for "the story" in the light and shadows in different places. Regarding your first topic, I shoot in JPEG+Raw but I have barely started editing. Mostly I crop the JPEG and/or apply a different film sim with Capture One. And I've been happy with that. Most of the shots are shared with family and friends via social platforms. I am debating on choosing some photos for print, either to frame or create a small photo book for myself. My favorite film sims for Classic Chrome and Monochrome on the X-T3 and Reala Ace and Nostalgic Neg on the X-S20, and I've been happy with the results so far. My next step is to get out of my comfort zone and try shooting more street and people. Thanks again for the rep'n segment!

    • @warrenc2306
      @warrenc2306 20 дней назад

      The x-s20 is great depending on the lens. I would try to use a lens that can go to f1.8. The f4 on the 18-120 can be too dark and would require you to use flash.

    I know there is opposition to photographing children, but I recently questioned someone about what happens to a child if a stranger posts a photo. The explanation I got was that an adult would use the photo to track down and take advantage of the child. I think that is an embellished story, and probably not something that happens often. Maybe years ago, before law enforcement became aware of online predators, that outcome would be more common, but I think people are living in the past regarding this subject. If I look for news reports about adults taking advantage of kids, it's typically a school teacher and often a female. Yet the implication from a lot of adults is that photographers, especially males, are the danger. Parents turn their children over to adults in daycare or school environments every day without questioning what might be happening to their kids. I think adults sometimes complain about photographers to avoid accepting responsibility that they are not protecting their kids whenever they turn them over to a stranger.

I had an indoor event with poor light and high ceiling (like a conference room). Shooting people in that light was a headache. I was shooting shutter priority at 1/40 up to 1/80 🥴. FLASH!!! It would be a life savor for you if your able to control the light. Most Kit lenses start at apertures to slow for low light scenarios and flash is your only option. Start practicing with off and on camera flash. I use Godox brand for on and off camera flash. IF you can not use flash , this is a tuff one. It will force you to shoot at low shutter speeds and introduce movement or you shoot at high iso and introduce noise. I would go with high iso and use some of the great de-noise software available like TOPAZ Photo AI which also do a great job at sharpen blurry photos. Good luck!!

    Good episode, your topic on "who you rep'n" really made me think. I started using mirrorless and interchangeable lenses two years ago and well, life gets in the way. Most of my photos have been my dogs, especially on walks or at the park with other dogs, and some vacation/sightseeing photos. I am interested in two themes for my photography: landscape and street. I have been gravitating towards Sean Tucker and his use of negative space and light in urban settings. Living in Northern California, I could cheat and say I'd rep Ansel Adams too, living only a couple hours away from Yosemite. But there are hundreds of other places just as spectacular and less visited by people, so I want to spend time in those places. And living in the state capital metro area, there are many photographers here who I am just beginning to meet and learn of their experiences shooting in and around the area. This episode felt like a poke to just make time and get out with a camera and just start taking pics. Thanks!

    I left Sony and went all in on Fuji with the XH2 and around five lenses. The straight out of camera colors are the best I've seen from any camera brand. Unfortunately, continuous autofocus never seemed to give me tack sharp photos. Even the occasions I seemed to nail the shot the images always seemed just slightly soft. I use it on my XH2, feels more locked on for focus and handles the 40mp sensor better than the 100-400 (I know you're using the XH2s, but still nice to have). Portability is the huge drawback, you can handhold it but it's way better on a monopod/tripod. I use the 150-600 for birds while I use the 100-400 for motorsports events at COTA in Austin. Keeping my ears open for the rumored 500mm prime though.

      @@_brushie Nice feedback!!. I have the 150-600mm and thought it would be too long a lens for the area I shoot birds. I will have to take it out and see. I do like it a lot; but it has become more specialized use due to the focal length for me.

    I moved away from Fujifilm XH-2 and XH-2S since I felt that too often even when the screen indicated focus lock, afterwards I had a soft or even blurry image of the birds. I agree that the tracking seemed ok, but if the images turns out soft it’s not nice.

    I have been trying to get shots of flying birds this weekend and the AF performance (X-T5 with 100-400mm) was terrible. To be fair they were mainly small and fast moving birds but even slower seagulls were a problem. I was on the standard settings for AF speed and tracking. I will try to ramp up the AF speed setting and the bigger zone next time but apart from that I don't know what more to tweak.

    • @warrenc2306
      @warrenc2306 Месяц назад

      I had my af tracking on 2 and speed on 0. I used the custom 6 option to set it. Small birds are hard to track. You may want to try a monopod with a ball head to help with balance

    I've not had the af issues that many have pointed out. The XH2s for me has been fantastic. With that said I got to try out a friends Sony A7R V over the weekend and that AF is next level. I used to shoot witht the A7R iv and A7 iv. But wow the R V is something else.

      Thanks for the sub!! And Yes I do adjust tracking for fast moving subjects. In this test I used custom and set tracking sensitivity to 2 and speed tracking to 0. I used 2 cause once the bird is in flight ( big ones for sure) I know basically their flight pattern. Not very erratic like the small birds , which is why I lost them so quickly. For the small birds I will try speed at 2 next outing

    It looks like the box is sticking to the subject, but when you check for critical focus, usually the hit rate is low

    I love my fuji X-T5. I think the X-T50 is the camera for someone who has an older X-T30, and is looking for an upgrade. If I could get the ear of fuji I would ask them to build a lens that is maybe an F5.6, but all the way through the lens. I love the 150-600, but it killed me when trying to photograph a baby deer in low light.
