    You have a very pleasant to listen to voice, calming. For the splash on Hoya Mathilde, I think it is random.. multiple splashy cuttings in the same pot can have either splashy or greener vines… Chopping back sometimes gives a splashy vine though (I noticed the Same with Hoya Carnosa Wilbur Graves, several plantlets from the same motherplant in the same substrate in the same window… some turned splashy, some turned greener… some splashy vines came from a greener leaf node, some greener vines came from a splashy leaf node). Just chop and hope for the best 😅 You are so right about Hoya Fitchii being underrated! She is an easy grower, easy bloomer, she can sunstress and the flowers have a mild but pleasant scent! I bought her as an “extra” but she ended up as one of my favorites! 😊 We have a lot of plants in common 🤣 🌱🌸

    Hi Mona, I'm glad you're feeling better. Thank you for this "learning curve" video! It is very valuable. Wanted to share some insights from my experience (though I should note that I'm not a botanist, just an enthusiast who's been growing Hoyas for a while). I've noticed that when a cutting is taken from an old (very mature, almost woody) part of a Hoya vine, it can take an unusually long to "wake up." This seems to be due to the distribution of cells responsible for new growth-older parts of the vine don't have as many active cells ready to produce new growth. As for stunted growth, I've sprayed sulfur on cuttings that seem stalled or where buds aren't emerging. In my experience, flat mites are often the culprits when a plant isn't producing new vines or leaves. For now, I have switched to biological pest management and sulfur spraying is reserved only for new "suspicious" acquisitions. As for Pon, it didn't work well for me, my environment, habits, and plants. I grow everything, from Hoyas to Monsteras to Anthuriums, in Tree Fern (pure or mixed with other stuff for aeration, depending on the pot's volume). I love the idea you mentioned here and in your previous video about mixing tree fern and pon for cuttings. It sounds like a great balance-I might try it myself! Happy growing!

    • @planttherapy1860
      @planttherapy1860 11 дней назад

      Thanks again, Anna, for your insight and experience! I value your advice because you have much more experience than I. I love that you and other collectors are sharing because I need all the help I can get. I'm leaning toward Tree Fern more and more and definitely along with PON, and soon, I'll mix with other substrates to stretch it out. PON and tree fern are costly, as you know. As always, I appreciate you, Anna!

  • @Wubblyt
    @Wubblyt 12 дней назад

    I hope these will recover well and start growing soon! As long as a tiny bit of stem is still there…. And the nodes aren’t damaged… Hoyas can always be revived.. I like to suspend the ones with barely any stem left. Like have them almost touch the rooting substrate (in my case moss). It is a bit of an uncommon method but it has worked several times for me so far on cuttings that have had stemrot. I sincerely wonder why you put these cuttings in pon again (even when it is mixed with tree fern)? This is not meant as critique but as a legitimate question 🩷 Im growing some Pipers in pon, it works well for those 😊 But I am hesitant to try pon on Hoyas, it seems to work for some people, it works for a while for others and doesn’t work at all for some. I love rooting in moss+perlite, it works so well (the only downside being spending time on removing the moss). I put each cutting in a separate little pot with a cover pot so that they are even nicer to look at, and then check on them daily (or every other day) to see if they need a bit of spritzing.. doing that until they can be transferred. So far only 1 premature cutting has died (and I have rooted lots 😂) Most cuttings get transferred to pure tree fern once they have rooted and start to grow (tree fern can be used in self watering pots as well). The thirstier ones get a soil/bark/perlite mix.. I used to put everything in that, but I love that tree fern changes color when it needs watering, so that turned into my preferred substrate, it dries out a bit faster, but I like looking at my plants and it is fine to bring a watering can or spritz bottle along so the ones that need it can get an extra sip! When thinking of where they usually grow and what they usually grow on in nature, a soil/bark/perlite mix or tree fern seems ok. I would love to try bark/moss/tree fern someday, but also afraid that I wont know when to water 😅 I am aware that different things work in different environments. And everyone has their preferred methods, I respect that, just here to share 🌸

    • @planttherapy1860
      @planttherapy1860 12 дней назад

      Thank you for sharing, I am always open to other methods. I had some props in tree fern only and started to add a little PON because I realized the tree fern was extremely well draining, and I wanted to add something that would add a little weight to hold the top heavy cuttings in the substrate and hold on to a little more moisture. I like PON for a lot of my hoya. Some are still in original soil or chunky mix. It's all trial and error, so my methods can change, but most of my plants have done well in PON so far. I like adding tree fern to improve drainage. I will keep you posted on outcome of my problem plants. Good or bad. Thanks again. 😀

    • @Wubblyt
      @Wubblyt 12 дней назад

      @ Thank you for your kind reply. Using pon for added weight, that makes so much sense. Especially for the plants in smaller pots that already need a trellis it is always a struggle to keep them from toppling over when they need water and there is only tree fern 😅. Experimenting is always fun 😊 Sometimes, but only sometimes…. I wish that I had only half the species of Hoya that I have so that there would be more time and space to try different things on them to see what works best 👩‍🔬🧪

    • @Wubblyt
      @Wubblyt 11 дней назад

      @ Its definitely not as much as I often see others show 😅 but enough to keep me busy, and too many to keep me from experimenting a lot. As for the space running out… Growing everything out is the main culprit of that, trellises take up quite a lot of real estate. I like to say that my plants/Hoyas are “curated”, cannot have them all 🤣. Would love to downsize some more, but cannot possibly see how 🌱🌱🌱 Do you have goals in growing/keeping plants?

    • @planttherapy1860
      @planttherapy1860 11 дней назад

      I go back and forth with wanting to downsize and find more life balance. I obviously love hoyas and would like to purge in the spring with some of the other plants I have for space and sanity. Lol. We'll see... I love them all but I do think there's such a thing as too much.

    This looks all too familiar. I despise dry rot. I just restarted 20 Hoya cuttings because of it. I hope yours all recover. Is your tree fern/pon mixed at 50:50?

      I don't measure, but typically, I like it to be more PON than Tree Fern. It's new for me. Tree fern is tricky, dries out, and you might think it's moist in the pot if you have a clear pot, but it's been a little deceiving in my experience. I asked Natasha @PlantedinPlatinum how she knows when to water, and she suggested going by the weight of the pot. I have been trying that, and it's working.

      I have a couple of small ones that I need to check like this. Although, I have several that grew fast & then stopped and now they are growing again. 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️ 😎😎😎🪴🪴🪴

      @mykale007 Yes, hoya is funny that way, but some of these I waited too long. So it's really my bad if they die. Thanks for watching Michael.

      @pinkdreamstuff yes, I think we're all guilty of that sometimes. The watering. Good luck with your restarts. I have had good results with restarted hoyas, not afraid to do that anymore.
