Some of the most interesting vocals I've ever heard is on this album, this song in particular stands out.

Never understood the importance of "understanding" the song. To me it's the emotions and thoughts it gives you that matters, the original idea is secondary.

there is little that is more annoying than classifying yourself as intelligent based on the music you listen to especially if it is "out of stream". mainstream music, as well as less known tunes, are complex, highly nuanced works on so many different levels that one can hardly compare with another. i know very intelligent people who enjoy rap music (which has bad rep) and people who like to pose as intelligent and force indie into their ears. ridiculous.

You know what, I completely agree. I do need to learn more from it, really get a grasp of what the artist is trying to convey as well as how I feel about it. I agree it is good to be challenged, as I have been challenged by other artists. Creeping me the fuck out isn't necessarily a bad thing, but still my opinion nevertheless.

Anything that poses resistance (strong emotions of fear to the unknown) is a sign that you have something to learn from it. ;-)
