    Sorry, just how not to do anything! Most of all, never wet anything when using epoxy, your wet floor will rise moisture and the epoxy will escalate in all kinds of ways, I have not seen anyone using knitternd paper for transmitting stupid simple lines either…and NEVER. Wash your stupid parts with a dtergetnt….and one time scuffing is enough…why twice? Do you think the first scratches haven,t been enough? I don,t get a lot why you combine wood working techniques standards for furniture surface prepping for modern materials at all….but as long as you have fun and the paint sticks to the bird….why not….but at the end and all the work: I had just bought a slow running angle grinder and a big polishing disc and pads for that and polished the whole aluminium to mirror, it would have been cheaper and faster….

      The wings stands are very low tech. I simply made a rectangular “block” that bolted to the main spar and a 3” sewer pvc pipe that shoved down the lightning holes at the tips. Set up 2 saw horses and you can roll them in any direction.

    Good video, thanks for sharing with the rest of us. I wanted to ask if you used a HVLP sprayer? I too will be painting in my garage and I’ve watched a lot of folks use them with their other vehicles in the garage and supposedly the paint atomizes before it hits other surfaces that you do not want paint on. Thanks again, Matt

    • @toolman311
      @toolman311 5 месяцев назад

      Yes to the HVLP. No matter what you paint with- you are gonna get overspray everywhere! Best bet is good airflow and think about that while you paint. I start up wind and work downwind so to speak so the overspray from 1 part doesn't ruin the nice wet finish on another.

      @@toolman311 Ok Sir, thanks for the tips and the prompt response. Your paint scheme looks great and you did a very good job. One thing I do not know nor have I researched is where does one buy airplane paint? Aircraft Spruce perhaps? Have an excellent day, Matt.

    • @toolman311
      @toolman311 5 месяцев назад

      @@KingFox76 airplane paint is the same as any other automotive paint. You have 2 styles or mixtures (single stage- that is sprayed in 1 color coat and cures to a finish. It is somewhat easier to spray but less fixable I guess you would say if you get runs or spots you need to sand out. ). 2 stage or “base + clear coat” is the other. This is where you spray your color scheme- let it flash then top coat it with a very hard clear coat. That is what I did. The color goes on easily- the clear takes some practice and the right conditions to get it to lay down smooth but can be sanded later) As to airplanes- make sure your primer is rated for aluminum and fiberglass. Some automotive mixtures are not good at adhering to aluminum.

      @KingFox76 4 месяца назад

      @@toolman311 Ok Sir, I know really nothing about either so I’m sure this will turn into another expensive learning situation for me. The 2 stage sounds like my best route, I’m sure I’ll have runs and bubble and the like. I plan on trying to spray a metal door this time home to get used to the gun. I’ve had the thing for a year… and it is still in the box. I was too motivated perhaps. Thanks again for sharing, your aircraft looks good.

    • @toolman311
      @toolman311 5 месяцев назад

      No chemical etching at all. Soap and water, then red scotch bright again with dish soap, then final wipe down just before priming with a wax/grease remover and spray. Used an epoxy primer specifically for aluminum. That does have an acid etch to it. Tach cloth and then base plus clear coats.

    Sanding isn’t so bad with a flush riveted airplane like your RV. My S-21 has pulled rivets so sanding its finish would be a nightmare so I am trying to learn to get a finish that minimizes orange peel yet still avoids runs as the rivet heads would greatly complicate sanding.

    The getting caught up on naps looks like a good plan...I just started my build in the middle of all this. I got my empennage after the LCP drama but before the bankruptcy. I did just order my wings a couple weeks ago with the new price increase. So now I am just doing all the finish items I can do to the tail and then I am going to work on building a set of steel wing fixtures in preparation for the eventual wing kit.

    Nice. You’re almost there. I had my empennage and wings completed and waiting for the fuselage. I also did accept the new pricing (no choice). By the way, I have few parts in the empennage and wings that are LCP and just received email from Vans last week. I sent an email to Vans asking if I opt not to replace the LCP’s, can they just deduct the cost from my fuselage kit? It will have a neutral effect on Vans as they won’t need to supply me with replacement parts but for me, it have cost reduction.. so it’s win win.. do u have LCP’s as well?

    🛑🛑 I Really Liked Your Video, and Your Attention To Detail😀👍. Just a Few Follow Up Questions… • After your installation and using you Big Air Tower, how did you tower perform? • Is the tower as tight and affixed your your boat and it was after the installation? • Was there anything that is a “watch out” or something you would have done differently? • Do you still own the boat? Thank You 😀👍

      Hey, thanks for the question. Yes, I definitely would recommend the cud’s tower after 1 year of use. This is my second tower and second boat. I installed both. This cud’s tower is very durable. The only thing I would have done differently is to not put quite so much “preload” on the tower when I drilled and bolted it together. I do fold mine down regularly, and with the 5” of preload on the tower it makes the install after fold down a 2 person job. I just can’t get the back supports to spread apart and line up with the bolt holes all by myself. I think I would put 3” of preload on the tower next time I install. Still love the look and function.

    Wow, I admire your ingenuity. That definitely looks like a challenging installation. I was looking for a way to install the windlass on my 201 GS Fundeck Hurricane and you've provided a good demonstration of it all. I primarily boat in the gulf so with the waves and swells it gives me great pause and concern to have such a large hole in the bow even though it's quite high from the water line.
