How-to on replacing the bearings on a roof wind turbine. I think this is a Windmaster Turbine but could be an Apelair.

    Is it from Ventlite Roof Ventilators? Somehow I think that brand went down. Only that brand has fans below their vent.

    Did my whirlybird today that was making an awful screeching noise. The 608RS bearings were definitely the go for mine (12 years old). One bearing had completely came apart. I didn't need to use vice or multi-grips on the shaft, i just used two 13mm spanners simultaneously on the top and bottom nuts to unlock the bottom locknut. Used a flathead screwdriver to wedge out the old bearings, that worked well. All in all, very easy to swap out the bearings, thanks for your vid :)

    How did you figure out the model number of your bearings great video

    • @StuinOzzy
      @StuinOzzy 2 года назад

      Hi Manuel, glad you found it useful, easiest way is to remove the existing bearing and take measurements then go hunting on google to find the specific bearing that will fit. They are generally using pretty standard bearings. Also get the number that will be printed on the bearing somewhere and look at a bearing manufacturer website/google.

      Just use some de-greaser on the old bearings you remove to see the part number on them.

    Some advice from someone who got caught buying the wrong bearings. I bought the 6200 bearings when in fact I should have bought the smaller 608 z , so it pays to have a look first. Video applies to quite old models. In the above case they are 30 year old whirlybirds.

      Any bearing shop should stock them or be able to get them for you.

    6200zz are steel non contact seal bearings . 6200 RS are rubber seal full contact seal bearings . The RS type will be a little tighter spinning than the ZZ type . Rs will last a lot longer .

    That ventilator is a Big Bird brand ventilator made by Erten Products Australia . When you reassemble the bearings to shaft assembly apply some paint any paint will do to the shaft axle where the bearings ride . This will take up the slight difference.

    You have a Monet tile roof like do, really dont need a vent as the tiles let the heat through at the arches. Im in Texas where summers are 110+ outside & the attic is 130+F

    I think the fan should go the other way around to maximize the amount of air to be pushed upward.

    Hi Sam Not sure what the brand is as there are no markings on the ventilator. In Australia the main brands are Windmaster or Apelair and they are around 30 years old.

    Note that the Spin Test should be around 14 Seconds. If you can get it to spin for around this long then the bearings are good :-)
