I learned quilting from various books and videos. Most of them are for long arm quilters but the knowledge can be adapted for domestic machines. This channel is for others who love quilting and want to try it at home
Turning corners when quilting border designs, part 1 – free motion quilting class for all levels
In answer to your requests, I made a video where I tray to show how to turn around a corner with different designs. I made some mistakes on the way. It was good, because I could also show you how to deal with it as well. I hope you will find this content useful. As always, I hope my content will provide you some quiet and relaxing time.

I came up with the idea by analyzing the elements and building up from very simple shape one step at a time. #freemotionqu...

What color thread are you using? It looks good on all your block colors.
Always a pleasure watching you free motion.
I love when I can make a second project from the leftover fabrics. This one is very evocative of springtime. I don't enjoy turning corners, either, but I particularly like the feather to navigate the turn. I finally decided on a start to my quilt, maybe a twin size. I'm starting with a 16" Crow's Foot variation, either as the center medallion or using more of the same to assemble as the only type block in the project. We'll see how that goes. The first block is cut and ready to sew tomorrow. Wish me luck! Thanks, Gosia ~Cynthia
❤🥰💖👌👍☮️
Stunning! I enjoyed watching.
Love this! Thanks so much for sharing all your ideas.
I could watch your feathers forever- they’re mesmerizing! 😮
Thank you most kindly! I love quilting them. There is a kind of rythm to them. It is like ❤❤❤ dancing.
Amazing that you do this without a longarm machine and frame. Very beautiful.❤
Thank you for your comment! I dream about having enough space so I could dream about putting there a long arm machine ;) I wanted to quilt so I found a way. And I love it! ❤❤❤
Beautiful, my friend. Variegated thread is so great for extra interest on dark fabric. I have one entire queen size quilt done with it, though it was completed by a friend with a huge commercial machine. Pieced it then sent it to her for quilting in exchange for some valuable rare breed hatching eggs. I need a lot more practice with feathers, would love to do an entire quilt with just two basic designs so that i know what I'm doing ahead of time and get better throughout the process. ~Cynthia
Hi Cynthia, one day I will make a whole cloth quilt with such quilting. It will look great. I am sure, your is fantastic! And I love the idea of exchange of goods. I do that sometimes too. I make a nice pillow and get a nice bag. Once I exchanged a baby quilt for a wonderful ceiling lamp. This was a nice, relaxing project. Now back to work on more teaching content. I wish you a wonderful day!
The foot you are using in this video allows for great visibility. Is it available for various machines? I have an older Pfaff and would love to get a foot like that for it. Thanks.
Ho there, My foot came with the machine. I do not know what is possible for Pfaffs. First they tend to provide different feet for different machines. However, one can buy feet (low or high shank) that fit different types of machines. The best would be to ask in a specialized shop. ❤❤❤
❤❤❤
Thank you ❤❤❤
I normally would choose softer or more muted color threads, especially with variegated thread. But with the designs all consisting of curved motifs, the brighter variegated color changes do flow with the curve of the motifs. Very beautiful.
Hi there! In "normal quilting" I am way more conservative in my thread selection. Hoever, for videos I need strong contrast so everybody can see what I am doing. At the beginning I had problems that everything was visible but now I love it. Sometimes it is good to go outside of the comfort zone. ❤❤❤
Fabulous. That variegated thread is gorgeous in feathers.
Thank you! And this one actually works without shredding. I have four different ones and a yellow one is so difficult to work with. But this one on black...yummy ❤❤❤
Thank you for relaxing video. I ❤❤❤ the thread choice! You continue to amaze me with your talent!
Thank you! I am happy I could provide some quiet, relaxing time. And I hope I can keep creating. ❤❤❤
Just incredibly beautiful
Thank you! I also love the color play . So dramatic and flowing. It will be great cosmetic bag, or a pillow... ❤❤❤
Absolutely incredible control and eye for design.
Thank you! It is funny that you say that... In normal life I have huge control issues, as to say I am more control freak. Quilting however is where I let go. I do not control...it flows... it is very good for me and my mental health ❤❤❤
Спасибо!! ❤👍👍👍
❤❤❤ Thank you most kindly.
So beautiful
Thank you for your kind words ❤❤❤
So pretty! Love the extended swirl paisley feather especially!
Thank you. the paisley feather was the first one I learned. I watched a lot of Angela Walters and I used her books. In between I got better with different kind of feathers and I try to mix them in my projects ❤❤❤
Boa noite. Seu trabalho me deixa hipnotizada. Amo ver você criar esses lindos trabalhos. Parabéns são maravilhosos.. Bjsss ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Hi there! Thank you for your beautiful words. I love quilting becasue it relaxes me and when I am done I like to move my hand along the lines. Sometimes I cannot believe I make such things. This is a beautiful passion ❤❤❤
😊
Thank you!❤❤❤
absolutley beautiful. your work is so mezmorizing
Feathers have this rythm. And they flow... there are so many possibilities with the organic character. I love quilting them ❤❤❤
That is so amazing!!
Thank you most kindly ❤❤❤
❤❤❤love these feathers
The do look great. Thank you for your comment! ❤❤❤
THANK YOY
you are welcome! ❤❤❤
What is the ruler you are using?❤
Hi! this one is custom made by a nice man with the right tools. But any straight edge ruler will do. Mine has a nice size for domestic machine. Handi quilter has nice selection that I can reccomend. ❤❤❤
Beautiful!🥰
Thank you! 😊
What size are your strips
Hi!, My stripes were 3 inches wide and about 18 inches long. The final width of 2.5 inches is very nice for quilting different designs❤❤❤
These are so interesting! Thank you so much. I'll be going back to review them when I do my next project, which is undecided at this point. This table runner is just fabulous, all the designs would make such great borders! People have such fun looking for all the different designs in a free motion quilt as do I. God bless, Cynthia
Hi Cynthia, This project was fun. I like it when I can combine a dedicated proeject and video topics. Then I am more effective. I think I could do 24 designs more :) The runner is on my table and we love it. The colors are all fall forest. Lately I have barely time for my creative quiltng. Work and life are so busy. But I managed this project and I am happy. Have a wonderful day and week! ❤❤❤
❤❤❤😊

Dear Sylvia. I use two markers from Prym. One is a very thin chalk marker. The other one is Aqua Trcikmarker (the blue one). I buy them on Amazon or from my local quilt shop. So far they never gave me trouble. If I can, I mark only the critical points on the edges. This is why you did not see the markings on the green stripe. The blue marker is water solvable. I use a water spray as soon as I am done. And the chalk marker is very thin, and it works like a mechanical pencil. I will try to send you some fotos later via IG. Best wishes. Gosia
@@quiltingnerd merci beaucoup Gosia je viens bien que vous m'envoyez les photos merci
Loved all of 24 design strips . Thanks for sharing!!😊
The runner is on my table and I love it. Perfect fall project ❤❤❤
Beautiful music and beautiful stitches!
I can take credit only for the quilting:) But I do love quilting with music. It helps me to switch off the everyday stress and just quilt. ❤❤❤
So beautiful. I love them all. Thank you for sharing and inspiring.
Thank you for your comment. Inspiration and relaxing time are the main missions of this channel. ❤❤❤
❤❤I love the slow movements and high contrast thread to enjoy the textures thank you🤗
Thank you! This is one of my favorite projects. It was simply flowing. Everything was just right. ❤❤❤
Спасибо❤️👍
You are welcome! ❤❤❤
They were all yummy!
Just different flavors! I agree with you. I am a bit like a squirrel. I love every design I just finished :) ❤❤❤
Me too my favorite of this series. Primrose mcvay
Thank you most kindly!!!! ❤❤❤
The blocks or squares are the hardest forr me , I just don't seem to leave enough space to get out I'm talking about I think #22 I like using the strips the same size helps . Primrose mcvay
I am just working on the next patchwork with squares and borders. I want to show some ideas for quilting the squares and turning the corners with those designs. I had some scraps left from this project so why not. I hope they will be helpful. ❤❤❤
Such lovely flowing work as always - really enjoyed this. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you for you kind comment! I liked this project. Quilting has the tendency to flow once you relax :) ❤❤❤
@@quiltingnerd I agree and any tension in the body comes out into the stitches for sure.
Thank you.
You are welcome ❤❤❤
What lovely quilting you do! Time and practice is what I’m told. Glad you worked out the wood grain to your liking. I love it both ways. The design sort of reminds me, or could be adapted to…peacock feathers, which I adore.
HI! Thank you for both comments! Time, practice and patiance are the only way. And I would not change that. It is good to work towards something and that it takes time. Quilting thought me a lot about what is important in life. ❤❤❤
Than you.
You are welcome. Happy to help ❤❤❤
Fabulous! I just love watching you quilt. Inspires me to play as well...not take it too seriously. What bobbin thread did you use?
Thank you for your feedback. I agree, quilting should be about fun and creativity, not perfection. My bobbin thread depends on the top thread but most of the time I use 50 wt thread. Color matches either the top thread or the fabric color ❤❤❤
Thank you.
You are welocome. Thank you for your comments! ❤❤❤
❤❤❤love this extremely relaxing pace❤❤❤
I am happy to hear that. I need that to relax. This is my normal quilting speed ❤❤❤
Maybe someday my FMQ will be as good as yours. Practice, practice, practice.
Yes, I am sure it will be. I also needed time. I have one request: do not compare to anything you see on Instagram or RUclips. Compare to your own work from past. Only then you can see your progress. Enjoy the process ❤❤❤
Also what kind of batting do you prefer?
The one that I can get. :) Most of the time I buy Hobbs 80/20, sometimes bamboo soy or wool.... It also depends on the project. For large ones definitely thin wool ❤❤❤
❤what needle are you using?❤
With the current machine 90.... Everything else destroys my thread ❤❤❤
