Are you "Andy" from ION game design?
Yes, though I made this before I worked for Ion.
1st.
Thank you!
Andy, thanks for putting this together. The 2nd Edition certainly seems to tighten some things up, but I can understand if some of the old mechanics were preferred. Was there any significant difference in the way prizes worked between the two editions?
thanks for this tutorial! Nice game!
I wanted to look, but I hate nose scratching.
I find that the import action makes the game hugely interactive personally
Great video.
I’m late to the party, but do you still own, and would you still be willing to sell the old dry erase boards? I’d love the card accordion that originally came with them as well, but I see that you’re using it.
Thanks for the this comparison. Can’t someone just make all or most of the rules of the other version that they don’t own into house rules for the version they do own?
What about the money?
You'll have to provide your own poker chips, or if your avatar is any indication, Monopoly money.
Ha! Got it. I've actually been making designs for quite a few board games lately. Thanks.
Tried looking for Wazir cards online as printable, but couldn't find any. Mind uploading photos?
Is this not available on Tabletop Simulator anymore? Can I request for the file? I want to try the 1st edition, I have the 2nd edition physically and I heard this one plays somehow different.
A Really Good Video And Wonderful Chips All The Best To You.
I have a similar set to this. I'd love to get a case like this with metal hinges and a latch. Maybe add one more row for 1000s. Also, Age of Steam was the only place I could find white mini chips.
The little chips feel odd
The constant change in camera focus and disjointed chatter without any pedagogical intent to make the viewer know which phase, whose turn, it is etc. nor to explain anything made me jump ship after 40+ minutes. Just too bad. The game needs such videos badly.
Good video thanks, I think many others would agree.
Everyone sounds so irritated during this game.
How do you get the web app for this game?
Thanks for sharing the play thru. Looks like an interesting take on minors/merging. Do you still like it enough to keep as a long term 18xx title with minors?
Yes.
@@Andy-Mesa how do you rate it when compared to 61/67 or New England?
So tempted to pick this game up... think it is worth it when I could play online instead?
If you have the players for it, sure.
@@Andy-Mesa 3 or 4 for sure, including me
so where does the currency in this game come from? does the government create it, or is it just there?
My first thought at the start of the game is to check how many company impacts are available and check if a tycoon victory is possible. Getting an early company is super valuable even if your not going for tycoon. Also my strategy would very much depend on player count. Tycoon is much easier with 2.
A lot of errores and mistakes xD I get borred of correct all !!!! MAKE A NEW VIDEO, YOU CAN'T MAKE A GAME AND UPLOAD A TUTORIAL WITH WRONG RULES !!!!
Our apologies, we’ll make it clear this playthrough is for an earlier version of the game.
@@Andy-Mesa I know but people its going to learn to play with the video and later they are going to play it wrong, at les put a BIG text at the start of the video telling the versión and date, on the description put a link to the current Rulebook.
@@ItsMe_G wow calm down its only a board game mate
@@chadvader974 the mistake are not on the board game ... you shut up and keep look trash videos w wrong rules ...
@@ItsMe_G Speak English please? lol wow you have some serious anger issues. Its a board game. Say it again... Its a board game.... Now go and have a word with yourself.
"that was the weak fort!" Thanks Andy
I love how you're showing Bios: Origins on the table (an incredibly heavy game by comparison), and on the edge of the video is Monopoly, Sorry, and Life. :)
32:14 There needs to be a documentary on John Bohrer; such a weird story
another great 1, thanks
Makes me wish the maps was done in the slightly updated style of the new 1822, 1849, chesapeake. And pretty on point about the price. If 1817 ever showed up at the price point of 1822!
19:00. commercialize should cost 4, not 3
If I'm looking to buy this game would you recommend getting Khyber Knives? You mentioned it's a bit unbalanced without it, I think.
I am not personally a fan of Khyber Knives.
@@Andy-Mesa What's wrong with it? Does it mess with the flow of the game? Are the cards too powerful?
it is amazing
I got some mini chips mostly for playing Indonesia. Did you ever come upon any alternatives to the case guy on Etsy when you were shopping?
Jose does great work, I highly recommend him.
Thanks for the playthrough, guys.
At the very beginning you say that you're using 'blank' 's "teaching script" : I didnt catch the name?

Thanks all! I found it, I will try it this week end!
I feel like one should laminate the card stock products... that assumes having a laminator, though.
Ah.... So a newer game came out (2019) called Freeman’s Farm (Worthington Games). I thought that design was Great AND new! But that game clearly was influenced by this game’s design, by a different designer. This game came out what... about 5 years ago?! 2nd edition now too. Yeah, but if you look at Freeman’s Farm, you’ll see what I mean.
I have a similar mini-chip set; I just printed some cards that have images of the chips with denominations under them, and hand out one card to each player (I like green 20s and use yellow for 2000s, but the principle is the same). drive.google.com/file/d/1aemjTn-ht8U_1oFHoPyIkbRhcRm_JNdK/view?usp=sharing
Great video! I haven't played Origins 2nd Edition yet but I've just started learning it. While I definitely very excited, I do have some of worries around concepts you raise: de-emphasized simulation, no tension between fecundity and innovation, an oversimplification of domestication and cultivation, and a bit of a jagged edge in connecting with Megafauna 2nd edition. But I'll have to get into a game to know how much these ultimately affect me. I hope Phil's next pass through this series is a synthesis b/w lessons learned on the two previous editions. There has to be a more elegant way to do some of the less "gamey" elements: climate, brain-mapping, etc. without loosing the narrative joy of experiencing plausible situations play out. By the way: How did you get the Bios: Origins 1st edition board? I know there is the Zazzle poster map, but what you show in the video looks different. What's up with that?
It's true that you have no overall population limit, but the area limit makes spreading dangerous. Unless you're looking to reach a specific area, there is absolutely no reason to risk chaos, which can still occur if you get too close to another species.
Just grab a corner rounder and fix the sharp corners. A Kadomaru Pro is my weapon of choice and it worked fine for 1817’s charters, bank + NYSE. www.amazon.com/Sunstar-Kadomaru-Corner-Cutter-S4765036/dp/B0076FJ7SS
RailsOnBoards is selling a token set with different token sizes for differnent share counts. Unfortunately their token colors don't match the colors from the mass-produced game, so they're only selling them as a complete replacement set (I think the station tokens are also 12mm rather than 15mm).
Ha, I remember telling them a year ago that they should sell an upgrade kit. I actually got my old tokens from them.
Sorry for the sniffing folks, allergy season is upon us!
Didn't notice it at all. Great job, thanks for the comparison.
I wish i could get at least a copy of the rules...
