Thank you so much for your kind words … Happy Christmas from Ireland!!!
not easy d minor or other a
Yes you are absolutely right. While holding Dm with your thumb on top, can you now bring your wrist in a bit closer to the neck at the back of the guitar. That then would be a very good hand position for Dm. And a huge payoff later as you're also half way to really good hand positioning for F, which is one of the most difficult chords for everybody leaning guitar. Please let me know how you find this, and I will help you more if needed!!!! Blessings from Ireland!!!! Pauric
yes the thumb
This is a little hard on the thumb at first? I find my thumb straining to hook over the E string which stiffens up my whole hand. Maybe because my neck is so narrow.
@@patrickoneal3498 Thank you Patrick!!! I’m just about to go to sleep, now, but I will answer you properly on this important issue tomorrow!!!! Blessings!!!
Good morning Patrick. You are right in saying it stiffens your hand. I call this the locked position. This is ideal for open chords as your fingertips stay closer to the fretboard during chord changes. It also makes it much easier to play guitar without looking at the fretboard as you now have muscle vision as well as eye vision. It's as if your thumb actually becomes an eye for your chord hand. So please stay with it. Change is always difficult. But even in 2 to 3 weeks you should be finding this much much easier. Blessings & Continued Success!!!
That's very cool
@@johnnga4496 Thank you so much John. I greatly appreciate your kind words. Happy Christmas from Ireland!!!!
This was a really helpful video. Thank you so much. I’m going to practice the clawed hand and the joining of the third and little finger. Just a quick question, is the open hand position applicable only to the Cadd9 chord or also to the C major? Thanks again.
Linking your rd and 4th fingers applies to all 3 hand positions needed guitar chords. And the clawed hand also applies to all three positions. These are invisible skills that make it much easier to play chords. Always ask me if you're not sure about anything you're practicing, and I will help you!!! Pauric
👍
This is great I bought the book strumming is difficult, strumming up is the hardest
Thank you so much for your kind words. Yes you are right. Upstrokes can be very difficult for beginners. I hope to make a video on this topic in about two weeks ... and I will keep you very much in mind while making it. Let me know if you have any other issues and I will help you. Blessings from Dublin, Ireland!!! Pauric
@makingguitarsimple thanks Pauric I appreciate it, that's crazy I'm only in Kildare myself
So practical! "Invisible guitar skills," this really helps.
@@patrickoneal3498 Thank you so much for your kind words Patrick!!! I’m so glad to hear that these 2 tips are helping you!!!! Pauric
My hand is too small to drape my thumb over the top.. I can mute the low E when I play a D chord... just barely.
Thank you so much for this comment Paul. You are absolutely right in what you're saying. And this is such an important issue you have raised. I am going to post a video specially for you in the next few day!!! Pauric
Great video Pauric! 🎸
Thank you so much Jojo. I hope all is good in Seattle. Or wherever you are in the world right now. It's such a joy to see your guitar playing continually improve. And I often tell people about your song writing talents. You really are gifted with words!!! Blessings from Ireland!!! Pauric
Super ideas!

Hello Sylvie. Thank you so much for watching the videos. I hope they are helping you. I only speak English. But all the people learning in other languages change their language settings in RUclips, if they need the videos in their own language. Here is A Short Video explaining the settings; ruclips.net/video/BDROkkW-OxI/видео.html I hope this helps. If you have any questions or issues with your guitar playing , please let me know and I will help you.. Blessings from, Ireland!!! Pauric
I've started using many of your tips and it's made a BIG difference! Thanks so much!
Hello Anthony… Thank you so much for your kind words!!! I'm so happy to hear your guitar playing is improving. If you've any questions or issues at all please ask me and I will make a short video for you. Blessings from Dublin, Ireland!!!
Thank you for sharing this exercise. Question: How long should my exercise session be for this each day, in your opinion? I don't want to do too much or too little....
@@davidcosta7893 Hello David. I’m so happy to hear that this is helping you. If you practice this for 2 minutes … 3 times a day … you would improve much faster than if you practiced for 6 minutes it once a day.
@@makingguitarsimple Will do. Thank you for the prompt reply, my friend! I will update you on my progress (or lack thereof!) in a few weeks....
@ Yes please do David!!!
Just stumbled across this & you are exactly right about finger 3 from the g to the d chords. My fingers doing exactly what you said. Great video.
Hello Robert. Thank you so much for taking the time to comment. I greatly appreciate your kind words. And I'm so thankful that you now have a permanent solution to this issue. If you practice the exercise SLOWLY AND EXACTLY RIGHT for even a few days, you'll see that your 2nd and 3rd fingers are starting to move as one. Once you get this you won't want to go back. Blessings on your guitar playing journey!!! Pauric
@PauricMather-e2o I will be mate. Done it for an hour straight yesterday. Got a bit cocky & lifted the anchor finger but then I stopped myself & said no do it like he said.
Brilliant Robert. You were 100% right to stop. I totally agree with your work ethic and approach to practicing. And I'm absolutely certain that you will become a much improved guitarist over the next 3 or 4 months!!!! Blessings & Continued Success!!!
Good stuff. Thx
Thank you so much for your kind word!!! I'm delighted the videos are helping you!!! Pauric
If a guitar is not setup properly with low action. The strings will buzz and not ring out clearly if the finger is in between the fret.
Thanks!I will try it.
This is pure gold
Thank you so much for your kind words. I’m so happy that this video is helping you!!!! Pauric
🔥
Thank you. Blessings and continued success with your guitar playing!!! Pauric
Two great tips 🎶🎶🎶🎸🎸🎸
Thank you so much. I hope they make it easier for you to change chords!!! Blessings from Ireland!!! Pauric
Fantastic. Haven’t seen this taught by anyone other than you. Thank you so much
Thank you so much for your kind words. You are absolutely right. I invented this particular practice technique many years ago ... but never shared it until now. I hope it helps you with your chord changing!!! Pauric
Nice video, I've been working on barrel cords for a few weeks after years of having a problem. Repetition. But starting with the proper placement as you have shown is important to practice the proper technique.
Thank you so much!!! I'm so glad to hear that this finger placement is helping you. If you 1: CLAW your hand, and 2: Practice this VERY SLOWLY for even a few days, you will start finding barre chords much easier to get. Every Blessing on your guitar playing journey!!! Pauric
Nice bit.
Thank you so much. I hope you find it helpful!!! Pauric
Nice.
Thank you again George. I'm so glad to hear that this video is helping you too!!! Blessings from Ireland!!! Pauric
Well demonstrated. I've been teaching this for some time. I call it "the laying on of hands".
Thank you so much for your kind words. And I'm truly sorry to hear about your hearing difficulties. I hope your hearing returns to normal very soon. Seperately, I really like the simplicity of your teaching style. You explain everything so well ... and with real consideration for beginners who often depend totally of these small steps to be able to learn correctly. Far too many people trying to teach guitar on RUclips completely overlook the simple fundamentals that you includew in your videos. I will be recommending you to many of my beginner students. Every Blessing and a speedy recovery from Dublin, Ireland!!! Pauric
Like it✌️❤️
Thank you so much. I am very thankful that you find this a help. Blessings from Ireland!!! Pauric
That's sweet
Thank you so much. Its not as easy as it looks ... but totally worth it if you can stay with it for a few weeks. Blessings & Continued Success with your guitar playing!!! Pauric
Great explanation, Pauric! Cheers from Canada.
Thank you so much for your kind words Frank. I'm so happy this is helping you ... especially as you are so far away. Every Blessing & Continued guitar playing success from Dublin, Ireland!!! Pauric
What fret is it
Hello Kristine. The capo is on the 4th fret for this version of the song. But you may have to move it one or two frets either way to suit your own voice. Blessings from Ireland & Continued Success with your guitar playing!!! Pauric
Thankyou. That’s a useful tip. I hadn’t realised how wayward my pinky finger was 😳😂
Thanks a mil Pauric....have been practicing this every evening and it's starting to pay off :)
@@wesabbott9 Yes it will Wes. It’s very important !!! In a few weeks time, with all your fingers stronger, you will find all your chords so much easier to play!!!
Interesting. Never heard about this. I’ll give it a try.
Thank you so much for your kind words!!! This will help you greatly long term if you stay with it. Also you will find chord changing much easier between these type of open chords.
very helpful
Thank you so much for your kind words!!! I'm so happy to hear that this is helping you. Also you will find chord changing much easier between all other open chords, not just these. I hope it becomes part of your guitar playing style as soon as possible!!! Blessings from Ireland!!! Pauric
Wow! That's really helpful. Thank you!
@@ThePreparedAdventist Thank you for your kind words!!!! I’m so glad this has helped you!!!! Stay with it. Hopefully in a few weeks you’ll be effortlessly changing to F chord!!!!

Hello Patrick. Thank you for your comment. I will help you in any way I can if you have questions. But I only speak English. We are presently working on getting the RUclips translation tools to work for each video. Blessings & Continued Success with your guitar playing!!!! Pauric
It would be much easier if u would play the G chord w ur ring finger and pinky. Then ur fingers naturally drop right into the C and F. If u play the G that way start out by teaching him G to C. F will come a lot easier after that.
@@rogerfratini6361 Yes you are right!!! That does make the G to F change much easier. But when you have D, or Cadd9 just before that G, it then makes the change from D to G or Cadd9 to G more difficult for someone who is only a few months into learning. Ideally, long term, guitarists need to be equally good at both G’s to ensure good chord changing in all sequences!!!
I've seen changing from F to C. More than changing from F to G or G to F...
@@liberalsrmentallyflawed3611 Thank you so much for your comment!!! Yes you are 100% right!!! F to C definitely appears in songs more than F to G. But not by much. F to G is actually in millions of songs. And by most great artists in all music styles!!! So there is a great reward long term in perfecting this chord change!!!!
Thanks Pauric....the explanation of the grip And breaking the chord down has really helped....thanks a mil :)
@@wesabbott9 You’re welcome Wes. Blessings & Continued Success with your guitar playing!!!!
Very well explained. Thanks Pauric.

Hello Colin ... Thank you for your kind words!!!! If you need help with anything, please let me know!!! Blessings & Continued Success!!!! Pauric
@@makingguitarsimple Absolutely!! I’ve been playing guitar for over a month now and I can see progress within myself as I keep practicing. I’ll be honest though. Switching from EM to FM7 is hard while strumming.
@@ColinMcRae-zw8xk It's hard just at the moment Colin. The best way is to firstly, master the change slow until that becomes easy (about 3 to 5 days). Then speed that up. About 5 to 7 days after that, the fast change should seem easy. Blessings from Ireland!!!
@@makingguitarsimple Thank you! I greatly appreciate the feedback and the motivation!🙏🏻God bless.
