Cobb Foil Liner alternative
This is a quick video showing how I make a foil liner for my Cobb Cooker.
The circumference of the bowl is 940mm, so you need a 1 meter of foil, the stuff I have is quite thick and 300mm wide but I am sure whatever you have will work, just need to make sure you don’t block the holes in the bottom of the fuel bowl.
I’m not use to doing videos and doing this for the camera makes it look more awkward than it is when you just make one and quicker too.
Trial and error though, if you fail don’t give up, try again. Just because this method works for me doesn’t mean it will for you so if you work out a different way with a similar end result then happy days.

      Hiya, you don’t have to, but you could. I put some foil under the coal basket just to make cleaning easier. Just be mindful you don’t block the air holes that feed oxygen to the coals.

    Great idea and video Robbie👍 Been using my Cobb for several years and know very well how long it takes to clean the Cobb bowl, especially after a long roasting session. Just made a liner after watching your video and it only took me 5 mins. Using foil that cost me A$6.00 for 20 metres - so works out at just A$0.30 per liner. Much cheaper than the Cobb liners that are currently A$5.00 each here in Australia. Cheers😃

    Or cut 4 large rectangles of foil and place them directly inside overlapping at the base. Crimp over outside edge to keep in place.

  • @mpeer2866
    @mpeer2866 2 года назад

    Time consuming good idea. Has anyone tried cutting a circle in a grill mat to line the the inside instead of the foil ? After cooking remove the mat and clean the mat to be reused again. Measure the radius of the centre and fold into four parts then cut out the radius. Place the mat around the fire area.Then light the fire. Can bake potatoes or cook veggies in the moat.

    Cleaning tip for the bowl. Rub it in with green soap and pour some amonia in a small cup or something. Then together put it in a closed garbage bag and leave it for the night. The next day you can clean it very easily

    Thanks for sharing. I made foil inserts before by just pushing a straight sheet in the bowl, but it often rips. This method is way better. The liners from Cobb don't fit a compact model and are crazy expensive, so I'm definitely going to use this. Thumbs up!

      I get what you’re saying, but last time I used mine the bowl went in the dishwasher and it still needed 20 mins with a scouring pad to get it clean afterwards. That heat really bakes on the oils and juices. I’d considering making a foil liner, but I think I’d try to do it a bit quicker than this. Fair play to the guy though. It’s a decent job.

      Why not? It’s cheaper than the Cobb ready made liners, the few minutes it takes to make this saves time and hassle cleaning the bowl after compared to how it is usually is after a long cook with or smoking food. Many people have asked about alternative to the liners in various groups and forums so I shared a video of how they are easy to do and many people have appreciated the video.

      @@Rule-Zero after cooking in my Cobb this weekend , I have to totally agree with you.. I have to admit at first I thought, a lot of work when you can juts wash it . But after doing a roast witb water and red wine In the moat it was a mess to clean up and even after a wash looks stained... should have not been so quick to judge... for the little time the foil takes it save heaps and protects the Cobb..

      @@Rule-Zero The other thing to remember is you aren’t compelling anyone to do this. You are simply demonstrating how you do it. If this is useful to people they are being shown a neat, inexpensive and effective way of using foil to line their Cobb. I have only acquired my Cobb in the last week and have used it twice. I will be using you method to line the moat. Thanks for taking the time to produce this video. I find it fascinating how some people can be so ill mannered to post snide comments. Clearly the idea that if you have nothing nice to say: then say nothing wasn’t promoted to them growing up.
