TBH is this scene is genius
Among the best monologues in film ever.
"..when ya could be watching West Ham lose at home..."
Brilliant scene. Incredibly well written and acted. Still relevant even 40 years later
Superb film, this was a scene that oozes class throughout
Superb actor and a great mate .. Geoff RIP
Top ten scenes of all time in cinema!
The Superintendent details it very well. Like he has explained it to thousands of kids that comes down for assessment. He explains in the past tense on what Trevor has been doing and how many times he's been given a chance to reform and do what he has been told up to the point on where he is now in the present. The Superintendent lays it all down on what to expect should he continue his course of juvenile delinquency and not co-operate with the authorities and so forth. Then he lays it all out on the table on what his future might hold after his time at the assessment centre when all options have been exhausted. A vicious cycle of a bleak future with no chance of ever getting a break in life and constantly being brutalized by the system that he has rebelled against futilely. I'd listen to him if I as his age. Past, present and future, beautifully explained by Geoffrey Hutchings..... But at the end of this movie, he still didn't listen did he? (So he went to a detention centre, got out, moved to L.A. with Honey Bunny robbing liquor stores and restaurants.)
Great actor, and a master craftsman at his job.
I think the Tigertailz jacket gave it away somewhat haha. Brilliant band though!
Quality
Geoffrey Hutchins performance in this scene is incredible. You really get the sense he's given that speech a thousand times to far too many kids, not to mention the attention to detail utilising the chalk board. It's as if he's been giving this talk for years.
Number 5
They don't make them like this anymore , pure genius
Haha brilliant scene
I love it when people like Trevor meet someone they can't intimidate, and just STFU.
Just a brilliant scene, superbly written and acted, i was a boy when I saw it and still revisit it many years later.
Far and away the best performance in an excellent film filled with great performances. Supremely authoritative.
A wonderful actor, oozing authority, wisdom and a man worthy of his position. Best scene in the film.
Excellent scene
This prologue is the best 10 minutes of a great actor and my favourite. R.I.P
Oh brother!
Many years later, he played "Mel" in "BENIDORM" !
mistofoles just realised this while watching benidorm, it was his voice I recognised, looked very different by then.
What regional accent in the UK is Geoffrey speaking in?
Are you sure?
Yorkshire.
South Yorkshire
Sheffield. 100% Blade
Round and round you go...
Best scene in the film. Had me totally transfixed first time I saw it. Brilliant performances all round. Glad we didn't see anybody touching the dogs arse!
MadBoy8734 What does touching the dogs arse even mean?

They are working just great, actualy. How is your gun allowance laws? Killing much?
I think it's number 4! ;)
😂
Most powerful episode of colombo ive ever seen
"I am an anti-Christ I am an anarchist, Don't know what I want But I know how to get it. I wanna destroy the passer by 'Cos I wanna be anarchy"
i wonder who started that
stupid narrow minded comment
JUST WAITING FOR THE POLICE TO GET THE ED209 OUT.
According to Piers Morgan, strict gun laws made Great Britain a very safe country. Discounting of course the massive riot. :)
On 3 February 1954, under the agenda item 'Coloured Workers', Churchill is quoted, with abbreviations, by Cabinet Secretary Sir Norman Brook as saying: 'Problems wh. will arise if many coloured people settle here. Are we to saddle ourselves with colour problems in UK? Attracted by Welfare State. Public opinion in UK won't tolerate it once it gets beyond certain limits.'
not the cops that's there job . but for the government fuck them. we give them a job.but as soon as they get in .so duz the back hands
So you're saying that some random guy carrying a gun could have reacted fast enough, not gotten singled out (the only person not scrambling away) by the shooter, and taken out a better armed guy wearing body armor? All of my friends that own firearms are boys who like to pretend that a gun makes them a man, and I fear the logic in giving a couple of them any weapon at all. They're my friends, but that doesn't mean I don't think a few of them are mentally weak.
Until there is a murder or rapist, in which they lock them up and get no recognition.
in england we always have riots all the time and every 1 blames it on the government
anarchy isnt gonna solve anything
wtf is a flippiant
rofl and the people complaining why they have to gonna pay more..... The cops let them put the buildings on fire... Just shoot straight away with rubber bullets fuck off with riots...
..but you're forgetting that rioters could get as many weapons as they want so there would be gun fire on the street. police would probably get killed so would innocent civilians. the amount of rioters outnumber the shop keepers so actually the gun laws will just bring more violence in THIS case
the Olympics were fucking propaganda or used as such
Are yes but what if the shop owners and people trying to protect their homes had a few guns, not a lot but a few, would you loot a shop where the owner may or may not be armed? not everyone needs a gun, but a few of the law abiding having them means that criminals do not know who has and who hasn't got a gun and leave everyone alone.
2:00 burn Aldi fucking burn!
Actually the Dunblane&Hungerford Massacres are the reason we've got these stupid laws, they were knee jerk reactions by fearful people who let the government nick off with their guns, the problem with passing laws after these events is that it's effectively trying to legislate against random and highly unlikely event, many other nations have lots of guns and don't experience the events that america has had, but i've no answer as to why america's like it is, i just want a shotgun. ;)
America is a very poor example of a society with a liberal approach to guns, there's a lot more going on than meets to eye; for instance the great differences in wealth between rich& poor& between different races. also yes america does have greater gun crime but, there's more of people, & it's also a myth that americans all have guns & that they aren't at all restricted some areas have restrictions a better example is Switzerland look switzerland they have lots of guns & very little crime
