Does using an FTZ adapter slow down the AF capability?
I haven't noticed any slowdown compared to the d850 at all
Just a curiosity: I have bought bulk loaded film and found ones with 45 exposures in it. What's the highest limit length of exposures you could load into a single film?
I think 45 would be close. You can only fit so much film in there. A lot of cameras can only handle 36-40 exposures anyway. And my nikon scanner can only scan 40 uncut frames automatically. I dont think it would be worth it
First time visitor to your site - enjoyed it immensely , thanks .
I just found this video and I totally agree, only the NIKON system links the past to the future. When I started seriously with photography decades ago there was Canon and Nikon to choose. Minolta, Pentax, Olympus and all that stuff was not even close to the two big players in those days. Finally I chose the Nikon system because I somehow just felt that this is the right choice. And I was right. I had many cameras like FM, FE2, F100, F750, D70 and now D850. Mirrorless is not made for me, sorry. I had many, many Nikon lenses and I still own some manual lenses from the old days. I can use them on all my cameras, digital and film, because of the F-mount and all my new lenses work pretty well on my old cameras as well. And even if I might get a mirrorless camera some day, it will fit in the system. I bought a Nikon Coolscan 4000 many years ago and it still works like new. The only issue I have with Nikon is their horrible software, from Scan-software over NXview until NX Studio. They never made any good software. You need third party software!! Nikon had some difficult years after the D850 but they recovered from the lack of innovation. I am glad to know that if I might get a mirrorless camera some day it will fit in my system smoothly. Have fun.
I kinda wanna do this with a 4x5 for some reason haha What happened to the deer slammed to the tree at 17:00 in?
It's antlers got caught in the wire netting, he was fine afterwards.
Thanks for the video. Just one quick question: where did you get the video you show at 3:00?
The Nikon Z8 was a great investment. My pictures are better now. This camera made me a better photographer. I only shoot in JPEG. Top notch video. ❤❤❤
"Nikkor GAS GAS GAS" lol thats a case of bland unbridled honesty^^
Gotta step on the GAS
Ive been using pixel shift on my Lumix S5 and it results in a very noticeable improvement vs the single shot scans. I had very similar results to what you found here. I think it makes sense to use pixel shift for scanning and conersion for the reason you mentioned. Having as much data as possible when doing the conversation should yeild a better result purely because there is more color and resolution data to work with. I usually just downsample the final file to 6000x4000 to save on file size
I agree that the F2 is the best SLR mechanical camera of all. The Leica SL(2) is also amazing but not as modular as the F2. I've had my older copy (F2S) for close to 30 years, never CLA'd and works like a charm, exposures with slide film are dead accurate!
Where did you bought the vision 3 100 ft?
How do you think a coolscan woukld work with half frame shots?
I have no idea
the weird teeth on the canister makes reloading this type of film an issue, i think. could be wrong.
Just discovering my Z8 with pixel shift shooting and thinking to scan my film negs with it hahah! Great video love your chanel
Awesome video! Very informative! Thank you so much for putting this together!
i recently found a aps film point and shoot camera as well but i am finding it really hard to find ANYWHERE that sells it do you happen to know where to buy some thanks!
Aps film is out of production for decade. You might find some expired film on ebay
Since nearly all of my lenses are D Type Lenses that require a Screw Drive to Auto-focus. And having a D850 and a D7000 already. I will not be switching to the Z System. I suspect this is the reason why Nikon has not created a F to Z Adapter with a Screw Drive. Is because Nikon want people to switch completely to the Z System. In my opinion, this is not a good move. I already have some excellent lenses that are completely compatible and all functions work perfectly with my D850 and D7000. If any thing I will purchase another D850. I also enjoy the fact that I can shoot all day on one fully charged standard batter. Currently, I do not have the Nikon Battery Grip. Although this may be a future purchase as well.
The d780 has the same video as the original Z6 with on sensor phase detect. Its an interesting option.
A well exposed Kodachrome 25 transparency shot with either a Leica or Zeiss lens contains about 30 MP of data. Digitizing a 35 mm negative with more than 30 MP will not give you better results.
What was the battery/memory-card bank thing, and who make it ?? Hope Japan was a blast.
Its the Jupio tri-charge
@ thanks.
that was a hella nikon vintage glass video. thanks.
Excellent review; thank you.
Oh, noo... a video about a Photoshop session on a film photography channel? 😳 I cannot think about spending one more minute at the computer after 8 hours in front of that in the office at work 😢
For me, this is my office.
@SprocketHoles got you. I go fully analog with photography. ☺️
whats the memory card brand you using ?
either Sandisk or saberent. The 1TB is saberent, very good card.
Cool! Nicely done 🎉
Looks great! A photo isn’t done until it’s printed.
Nice pictures I want same combination just worried about noise or grains in raw pictures due to higher mega pixels. I used Z7ii but in raw huge noise so need to do denoising. That again I don’t want to struggle. Suggest please regarding noise in low light or room light. Thank you ❤
Bought myself an F100 from Nisshin Camera Tokyo, worked so well. Loved it, great service from the guys in that shop too! Enjoyed the F100 so thoroughly that I decided to buy myself an F5 from Buyee, also got it for about the same price; due to it also being a little beat up. They're an amazingly tough camera.
How do you use the external lightmeter you have if theres no shoe on the camera? Do you just carry it in your shirt pocket or something? Thinking of getting this camera but im discouraged by the weird metering system.
I have the meter the pocket. I shot neg film and over expose it a bit so if the light changes a bit, the film can handle it.
The Nikon F. The camera that kicked the Leica M3 off the 35mm throne.
Great video. Would love to see a test like this on color film and heat exposure. Im always worried about leaving my film in my car on a hot summer day
says setup in video title.. completely skips the calibration part of the setup lol wtf...
I love my Z8 and adapting my M lenses onto it. Now that i want to shoot film, am thinking of the F2T or F3T :D
Very informative video. At 11.30 It us not neccessary to run Nikon Scan with "weird unsigned drivers" to use it on Windows 11. Just install a trial of Vuescan (it includes new drivers) and then install Nikon Scan without drivers (uncheck the driver check boxes when installing, this is the important step). Use Nikon Scan 4.03. However Vuescan is probably better and easier to use.
Question for owners: do you double turn the transport before or after a shot?? When you turn it after the shot and you take the next picture a week later, the whole time the mechanism is on tension ?! On the other hand, the finished picture stays in place the whole time, which is dangerous maybe Thanks:-)
I wind straight away and lock the shutter
Thank you for your good explanation. I just turned in F6 to the local shop because it couldn't do Auto focue on 50mm G lens like you are using this video. Shoud I always press " Auto on" button with touch of shutter release button together? Or, once, "Auto on" and "again Auto off"?
I have same piece..in golden colour....
This was actually the second camera I ever owned after my Kodak Intamatic knockoff that my parents bought me from Sears.
Nice photos. All your exposures were at 2.8. Love the Godzilla rock with the green tint. How are the radiation levels in Japan? How much is the light meter?
2.8 is the lens, its an 80mm f2.8 lens. that's not the exposure used
Still using my D700! P.S. 21MPs and 12fps is more than enough for EVERYTHING!
A great video to DISCOURAGE anyone from bulk loading their own film......

I absolutely hate it when a camera as superb as a Nikon F5 is referred to as a tank, why is it a tank? my Zenit 11 is a tank and its proper description for it. The F5 is a proper Pro level camera with a build to match. It is heavy, but no heavier or bulkier than an F4s, or even an F3 with the MD4 attached. The ergonomics are superb and small and medium size lenses balance perfectly on this camera due to its heft and low C.O.G. It is a camea that was introduced in 1994, yet the egonomics are almost identical to the latest Nikon DSLRs. Why of all the positives that can be said of the F5, the description of tank seems to be the popular one? It is just not right. I used to be quite happy with my F3s and F4 and F100 cameras until I found a very good example of the F5, and since then I have not used any of the others and even my use of Leica Ms has deminished. This camera is that good. Never mind the tank.
I'm using this SQ camera from about 3/4 rolls. Sincerely I don't understand the lenses. Some image is good and sharp, other are soft and not good. Honestly images are much better from my Olympus OM2 35mm.
Thanks. This is really useful. Good for special images and bigger film formats that you need a lot of resolution from for retaining the detail in larger prints is my take away.
Another really neat feature of the F5: To my knowledge, it was the first or one of the first to have a self diagnosing and adjusting shutter. So it'll automatically watch the shutter every activation and adjust the shutter mechanism to keep exposures spot on. And if it ever goes too out of whack, it'll refuse to fire instead of wasting film.
LITERALLY what was said around 1:35
Thanks for your helpful overview. I really appreciate your self-deprecating sense of humour.
SIR: Nice presentation. There are a lot of good information that I can use to set up my Z8. I especially liked your detailing how to set up video. Thanks, Dick Clark
right -- it was the biggest Plandemic in 1000 years I guess, if not in the history of mankind -- look up Event 201 😉 ( and everything was quite ready -- except the sleeping majority 😆🤣 )
Ever try the 28mm 1.4D? Still sells for a high price used even today.
