Beautiful specimen! Mine sounds great and works like a Swiss watch.
mine just ejects all disc even when not empty will not take the cd and play it
A pair was give to me but the tweeters are blown. Cabinet seems to be sealed. Can't replace.
I don't have these on hand now but I believe you remove the 4 screws from the plastic faceplate/trim piece which covers the speakers. This gives you access to remove and repair/replace the speakers. If I remember correctly?
Ps i love you're channel. Some of these youtubers on the audio end seem to do it for there store and will say anything for sales
Thanks. I try to give an unbiased opinion as much as possible.
How did these compare to the Primus series?
I am not familiar with the Primus series of car audio so I couldn't tell you, sorry.
@DalesVintageAudio Not the Primus series of CAR audio - the Primus series of HOME speakers, like the P363 towers I'm running now.
Is it 5.1 surround? Can i pair it with my logitech satellite speakers with spec 67w - 4 ohms ?
Specs can be found here.... www.hifiengine.com/manual_library/sony/str-d665.shtml Short answer is yes. It IS 5.1 and it is rated for 4 ohms.
Молодец прекрасно ❤❤❤❤
Thank you.
I got this turntable
Nice !!!
Watts meters always were a waste. Digital more so. Scott did fix the power off/on with this one. Separate spkr. selector. 1980 many receivers went downhill digital sucks
Thanks for the input. And thank you for watching.
satilikmi
I don't currently have this one, no. It IS a cool piece though.
Were can we buy like this philips cassette deck brother, im frm india
This is the only one that I have every seen myself. If you are lucky maybe someone will be selling one online sometime soon.
Dale…thx for the info. I agree with your assessment. I have one of these receivers, but I don’t have a remote or a manual. Any suggestions on how to use the outputs to a Sonos connect? I don’t see any kind of monitor out selector. Thx
Sorry but I am no help there. I have never even seen a Sonos connect and don't know anything about them.
Im in Rockford Illinois where do i go to get needle from kenwood
There are several good Sellers in eBay who are located in the Midwest. Just search the Stylus or Cartridge number.
Good sound. I like it.
They are pretty nice. Hard to find a stylus for now unfortunately.
ive managed to save my 3 ways with 12;s for all these yrs and they are in my closet but im too lazy to drag them out and see how they sound since i listen to my cabinets i built which are 3 ways with 12;s ported with daytons and they sound really good and shake the house if i want them to using a sansui 9090db,is it worth even giving them a try for grins or are they just taking up space in the back of my closet haha you know
If you like the sound you have now I wouldn't mess with it myself.
@@DalesVintageAudio haha i know huh,yea i actually had two sets and i took one apart one time and i was blown away how they were made, just paper and plastic and a tiny magnet haha, take care man
I have this exact model and it’s in great shape. I’m just wondering how it compares to newer players. Thanks for the video.
This is a pretty nice little unit. I doubt you will notice much difference in sound if you tried a newer unit.
Who turns bass n treble to full😮😮😮😮. It's a very good reliable amp
Crazy right? I do a LOT of crazy things in my little testing area.
I just got a very nice SL D2, without a dust cover, for $20 at can estate sale. It was a steal.
Very Nice !!!
Wouldn't you think they would make the parts metal instead of plastic so they last longer and are stronger
By the 80's they were already making equipment as cheaply as possible while trying to maintain a certain quality level. The Cassette decks from the 70's are a LOT heavier and contain a lot more metal.
Thanks mate
You are welcome, I appreciate you watching.
The memo is for the changer feature.
Gotcha. Thank you for your input.
Where do you purchase the needles from?
I have been fortunate in finding quite a few needles in the few units that I have worked on. I have never had a need to order any needles as I have quite a variety of them and don't use them that often.
Dale, I have the CDP-CX250 which has stopped working correctly. It loads the disk, the disk spins up, then without ever playing the disk spins down, unloads, rotates a bit, then reloads the same disk and repeats the pattern. I've found online that the blue contact switch that detects the loaded disk can go bad, but in the examples I've seen the disk never spins up. Do you have any idea what might be the problem? Thanks, Keith
That sounds like everything is working correctly except the reader can't read the disc. I have never had to replace one, but they can go bad and there is a lot of mention of this problem online.
I have one also and a SL-220 my mom uses it to listen to her vinyl.
Very nice. Should be a decent sounding little setup.
What did you do to service it, I got one in working condition with no issues, but I don’t think it has ever been serviced any recommendations?
I am a big believer in using things to keep them running. If it is working fine then I don't recommend messing with anything. If you are having issues then that is another story.
My wifes dad just bought her this model for Christmas but it didnt come with hook ups, can you show how you have yours hooked up to the tv?
I use the standard RCA calbes. Google this.. "RCA A/V Cable for Audio/Video"
In mine the tonearm moves like crazy from side to side, when the turntable is on, and it causes that when I play the record the tonearm falls outside of the record. I don't know how to fix that shaking tonearm.
Unfortunately these linear drive types have a lot more going on and a lot of senors which can fail over time. I don't have much experience with this model but you can research at this Forum here... www.vinylengine.com/turntable_forum/viewforum.php?f=18 If anyone has addressed this issue this is the place to hear about it.
Someone is selling the S-990 speakers, D-55M tape deck, CD-390M, T-990 Tuner, a “sound shaper”?(can’t see the model number in the photos) and I’m not sure the amp but it looks like the one in your video. Is this a good system to go with?
I don't have a lot of experience with all these models/components, but I really like the sound and the power output from this A-701. For more input check out AudioKarma.com ... They have a LOT of great people over there who like to help.
Bought this as a teenager in the early 70s. It was matched with a pair of Wharfedale 8" speakers.
I bet that was a great sounding little system there. Definitely high quality equipment for sure.
Military exchange catalogs had them. I really considered a pair since they likely had more bass than similar sized bookshelf speakers.
They definitely have some nice low end for their size.
It is connected to some amplifier or?
Yes, in this video it was connected to my test receiver. The trusty Pioneer SX-939.
Oh man! I’d like to grab these!
They are pretty unique and sound really nice to boot.
Hey Dale have you ever heard of pilot audio? They were around back in the early 60s and they had a whole range of tuners receivers and amplifiers. They sort of disappeared in the 70s. Any idea what happened to them
You don't see their equipment out in the will any more. There is a nice little synopsis on them here... auralhifi.com/pages/pilot?srsltid=AfmBOoq0ecZ7Z0tboXQJfXl0bePSb1VnI2fWG15PTNu0BZiIbyxSXiFe
@DalesVintageAudio that's a very interesting history of the company. Thank you
Thanks for the video nice Sony I got a Sony right around that same time period but it's completely blown up my buddy had it it lit on fire literally it's pretty cooked I don't know what he did I see you guys some design acoustic speakers I got a pair of those I really like them I reformed the bass drivers they sound great a lot of people don't even know what those are have a great day I'm old timer keep fixing stuff man some of this Electronics That's Just Junk I like to old stuff have a great day I'll keep watching keeps me inspiredA lot of people Overlook the Sony's and sherwoods I don't know why they were really good kenwoods too I got a denim from 1990 that's pretty nice
Thanks for watching. I agree that the Sherwoods and the older Sony's are overlooked. They both made some really nice units.
I have 2 unit left and right..and really wanted to sell it..
These should be pretty easy to sell on Marketplace if they are priced right.
I just picked up one of these off of CL Needed a belt and I cleaned the power switch. Awesome old school Love the touch switches
Congratulations on a great score !!! This really IS a great unit and you should really enjoy it for many years to come.
Boy did this brand fall from grace in terms of how their sole stereo receiver available today compares to this.... Very nice receiver; I've used stereo receivers all my life, primary because of value and convenience compared to separates. I'm currently running an Onkyo TX-8555 in our two channel rig, and it puts out 100 WPC, sounding more like a good integrated amp that just happens to have a tuner built in. I remember growing up in my childhood home and listening to the Fisher vintage receiver and associated components that were in the house when my parents bought it.
Thanks for sharing. Onkyo does have some really nice pieces for sure. I have heard several models of Onkyo that have really impressed me with their overall sound. There is a good chance that the early Fisher was the Model 500 tube amp that people regard so highly.
@DalesVintageAudio Thanks for getting back to me! I don't believe the Fisher receiver was one of their coveted tube amps - I remember the front looking like a typical unit of the 70s, with the silver face and normal rotary dials. I was listening to this system in the early 80s, so it must have been installed in the house by the previous owners at some point in the 70s. I just remember the system sounding so smooth, the receiver powering two in-wall speakers that were custom built into this big wooden "wall" that stretched from one end of the living room to the other. I wish I could listen to music in that room now.... But with regard to Onkyo, yeah, I was a big fan of this brand after a college friend turned me onto it; my first surround setup in my first studio apartment had a TX-SR600 AVR powering a 5.1 array (I still have that receiver, over 20 years later, in our workout room/wife's office doing music duties) and I moved on to a TX-SR605 in the high definition era (still have that unit too). And, as I said, a TX-8555 stereo unit is driving our two channel system. Unfortunately, the brand went through some changes after being acquired by Premium Audio Group, and their AV receivers, in particular, are missing key features that I personally look for in an AV amp. For this reason, I was forced to go with a Denon when it came time to upgrade the living room 5.1 system.
This is the exact model I had. Mine had a one amp fuse that would blow repeatedly, every time I wanted to hear loud rock music. Eventually I started putting two amp fuses in (I was a 16 yr old), and then I was blowing tweeters out and bring them in for warranty repair. The people who sold me the speakers were slimy stereo store salesman who had to know these speakers weren't for my listening habits. Almost every other speaker I tried performed better, which in my case, was louder. I particularly remember my friends Kenwood loudspeakers, which were less money and twice as good.
Thank you for sharing your history with these. It is great to hear the stories behind the equipment and what it means to so many people and their lives.
hello the realistic sta 2080 can it take 4ohms?
That is always a question posed on so many different models. There is a lot of in depth discussion on that on Audio Karma. audiokarma.org/forums/index.php?threads/4ohms-with-a-8-16ohms-reciever.52790/#post-497556
@DalesVintageAudio it's really not actually said that the realistic sta-2080 supports 4ohms. behind the amplifier says to refer to the instruction manual for 4ohms and apart from the repair service manual I did not find
A nice conversion is gettingrid of the IC Packs and switch it out to discreet outputs.
That is definitely a nice upgrade/mod for this one.
I have that same model. I've had it my whole adult life (it was my parent's before I acquired it somewhere as a teenager). I've tortured the poor thing over the years (especially as a teenager), but it's still kicking! I'm about to re-lamp it as they original bulbs have FINALLY given out! Dad bought it a year after he and Mom got married, so probably about 1976. Not a band lifespan for the bulbs, given that timeline!
Thanks for sharing your story. You are very fortunate to have a nice unit with such a great history. Congrats !!!
Just picked on up on marketplace immaculate unit. $40. Sounds great.
That’s a great score, congrats !!!
Used my grandma's for a solid 5 years before moving up to a fluance rt85n. Loved this turntable, such a breeze to use and does sound pretty dang good with an AT85EP cart
Definitely a great little table. And the AT85EP is a great cart. for the money too.
I still have a pair of the 199b speakers that I bought about 35 years ago . They still sound good and look good !
Nice !!!
Mine just jammed, won’t rotate and it gives an ERR blocked message 😢
If you take off the cover you will likely find a disc jammed up in the carousel. If you find a disc and get it pulled out hopefully it will recover and not repeat the issue.
I was gifted the exact same model. Can you please provide the source for the LED replacement bulbs ?. Had to do the same cleaning of the switches.. Works great... sounds great thru my vintage AR4X speakers. 7 watts goes a long way 😊
These are the style that I keep on hand and they worked great in this model. www.ebay.com/itm/124444575772
It looks very similar with the Akai AP Q310
It reminds me of my Yamaha P-300 as well. A lot of them were going for that look at the time. It IS a nice clean look for sure.
You could re wrap it. Very nice system regardless.
It could definitely use some fresh veneer. A wood cabinet sure would look nice too...
I think the 'melted in' damage happens when the TT is stored for a long time with the pwr/audio cords coiled on top, possibly tucked under the dustcover on this one, and the chemicals in the insulation that keep the cords soft & flexible leech out and soften the plastic beneath (maybe it gets hot in storage?) and leaves the imprint. The cord on my PL 540 was coiled and still semi stuck to the lid when I brought it down from the attic a few years ago. Fix is wet-sand and polish, I've redone a couple covers now with similar damage.
Valid observation. I have definitely seen a lot of evidence that would support this theory.
Cool vid. Makes me regret selling my baby Advents in my military days when I was moving a lot.
Thanks. They are some nice little speakers for sure.
