@@DJScharlie Aggressive is ok if it's done in a rational way. I teach a shot selection system called “The DNO Theory” which has been really good at telling players the best times to be aggressive. There is a video in this series on the DNO Thory

nice and concise; I've just come from sessions with 3 and 4 yr old preschoolers proving that it is easy to do, in fact easier than a groundstroke to get near instant reward from 80% success while walking forwards or backwards parallel with a mini net. The flow on benefits to all later shots provide support for "The Case for Volleys first"
and yet, so many coaches online and those seen live, continue to try to defy physics by talking about "putting more weight into the ball" (which would surely infer that putting on excess weight would result in faster balls); nice to see some sense matched to simple graphics
“Putting on more weight”, there’s an idea 😂 Thanks for your comments. The beauty of The Line is that even a young player can gain strength and better timing with the technique.
@@biggerbettertennis you're right, that's why awareness of their own body parameters is actually the most important aspect for beginners (of all ages) to develop, so they can relate their contact points to their head-hip-heel alignment (I cue with the "3Hs"). I also explain and demo that when they may experiment with differing grips and stances, the rule is never broken.
Great ideas about determining whether you are on offense or defense. When my partner serves I use a similar strategy where I view his serve as a “red light” serve where I hold my position, or a “green light” serve where I am more aggressive looking for a poach opportunity. I’ll try your method next time I play!
Thanks Neal. The servers partner in doubles is automatically in an offensive (feet) position, and if the server can help create an uncontrolled high (above the net band) ball to poach, that's the DNO Theory in action. It's no more complicated than that 😃

Muscle memory would be an easy way to look at it but more importantly it's the implications for learning news skills that gives it more credibility. The main point of the video is that the neurological pathways are the key to learning (mentally & physically), and that putting yourself under pressure in practice increases and enhances the learning process. The exercises are as shown… (1) Run The Lines (2) Forward & Back on the Line (3) Fast Feet for 6 seconds, and anything else that trains the brain to plan a movement ahead of the actual physical activity

You said that penetration is needed and instead of talking about that you changed the subject to top spin and under spin.
I focused on the need for spin and penetration at a higher level of competition and stated that the penetration comes from the "flat" contact, and the spin comes from the "height of the hand" finish. This differs from the "low to high" and "brush the ball" methodologies. Give it a try, and let me know how it goes. Thanks for your comment.

I would add a fourth factor, in addition to the game plan for the match, the player should have a plan for what to do at times when he feels he is beginning to lose the tennis arm-wrestle.
@@krzysztofjuskiewicz that’s the “monitor your mentality” piece. I’m having success with players by asking them to scrutinize their mindset immediately after a mistake, rather than allow mistakes to build up and lead to mental contamination. Thanks for your input.
Very interesting. Recently some of my pupils asked how I could get my slice backhand to bite much more than theirs. I honestly did not know! It is my most natural stroke. After some analysis we understood that, just like you showed, on my slice backhand I lay my hand flat against the bal and then finish it as a slice. Before I kind of thought it was a fake flat shot! Your idea to do the same for the topspin-strokes is very intriguing! Jerôme @ wheretennis

1. Catch the ball 2. Do not punch the ball 3. If need more speed, extend elbow. 4. Placement is the key. Target to open area your opponent can not cover.

@@garrisoncomstock3204 The problem with shoulder height balls is a one of inertia. All power and timing comes from the ground, and the mistake is we neglect “Ground” and try to arm these shots. Stay focused on the ground as your source of power and timing and reduce your swing. Make timing the ball your priority.
@@biggerbettertennis thank you, I focused on keeping weight on my back leg on back hands today and it helped when I connected. Every once of me wanted to reach out and hit the ball early before it got to me but I’m sure I’ll be able to iron that out
Ya. No. The kid in the video is jumping for no reason. One ball was slammed in the net. Let’s see you play. Anyone can make up a simple concept. Context matters.
Stay open minded. There are a lot of people out there that have more experience and know more
“All these things come from the same source and can be learned in a few seconds”. Paul, with all respect, this is complete nonsense. There is no one concept in tennis that will do what you are suggesting. The main part of the acceleration happens when the shoulder clears the hip. The timing is complex and takes years. A brick or your little correction is not a moment of brilliance.
@@sapientbudgie5652the boy in the video left training and proceeded to win an ITF singles title and reach the final of the 2nd week. This week he is in the semifinals (yet to play). We worked on his Contact foot for only 10 days and it has completely changed his GS game. The other boy in the video (11years old) won an U14 singles title this weekend. Stay open minded despite what you have been brought up thinking
@@biggerbettertennis you assume a lot. I am open minded. Those kids won tournaments because of 50 different factors. Not just because you have one contact point correction. Stop giving yourself so much credit this was due to many other factors that nothing to do with you.

I come to the net and my opponent hits a great lob that I can barely put into the court. I'm inside the court and the ball is above the net but how can it be called the offense?
Here’s how DNO informs the player (1) when you go forward if your ball is too high or you allow your opponent to step over the baseline you are open to be passed or lobbed (2) your opponent has two wishes; that the ball is short or high, to enable him to pass you or lob. If the lob is short, your feet on the overhead will be well inside the baseline. If the lob is deep, your opponent has successfully neutralized you. Thanks so much for a great question 🙏

Pre-innovation applies to any player who is looking to improve their court coverage Francis. It covers anticipation and explosiveness which are usually the biggest problems for someone with poor on court movement
