From what I understand the short scale bass’ Will only do dropped heavy tunings with a gauge 120 or 140 on the low string. Awesome mod tho man I love my short scale bass (Cory action jr.) but I’m a bit limited with it to D standard or drop D with a 105 gauge string on the low
@@BleachedCoralthanks for the comment, what scale length is your bass? Where did you get the strings. I did find some bigger strings for this scale length through Kalium but they still haven’t arrived yet… 🤔 seems like bigger strings for short scale basses is harder to find…
Hi! It’s a 30”. Ernie Ball make a pack of roundwound super slinky 45-105 for short scale Basses. Pretty pricey but they sound great
is 26.5 scale is considered as baritone?
@@stitchesburn6148 technically yes. But it is like just the start of “baritone scales”…
My other comment got deleted by the YT robots... There's a video on RUclips where the pickups on a Mikro were changed to EMG Geezer Butler passive pickups. Probably easy enough to find.
@@bb_lz9790 thank you for the suggestion. I did already get some pickups. I just need to do it already lol…
What strings did you buy for it?
@@bb_lz9790 good question… let me look. It’s been a while… I believe it was these: www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/760FM-S--la-bella-760fm-deep-talkin-bass-flatwound-bass-strings-medium-short-scale So 109 instead of 110 I guess… Kalium offers a lot of bass and guitar string sizes… I ordered some strings back in July… still waiting for the package though… 🤔
@@MetalGuitarGuy Thanks!
@ you’re welcome!
I'm trying to decide between converting mine to e ither a bass vi with a trem, or a tenor bass w/ trem. If i go bass vi, my goal is to maintain the tone of a bass, i feel like single coil guitar pickups are what make them useless in most applications. Listening to the ibanez crossover bass gave me all the proof i need, because they sound head and shoulders above the competition, but unfortunately are priced accordingly. My idea is to us a guyker rail p bass pickup and a very high output humbucker in the bridge. Thr guyker sounds surprisingly good for the price and the blade prevents my ocd from exploding because of the string alignment lol. This set up will allow both true bass tone heavier guitarish sounds. As for a trem, the scale length puts the string tension in the same ballpark as a regular guitar, so any bridge modified to take bigger strings will work just fine, even a floyd
@@DrDizzleFrizzle bass VI’s are cool. I don’t think this bass guitar's fretboard is wide enough for 6 strings though, even in guitar spacing. The neck/fretboard is more narrow than a 6 string guitar. If you really want a bass VI though there are some cheaper ones out there that are decent. I will link them here in a minute… There is the Harley Benton Guitarbass VS. I own one and it sounds pretty good actually. only 200 bucks www.thomannmusic.com/harley_benton_guitarbass_vs_vintage_series.htm Me playing with the Harley Benton ruclips.net/video/P9yGqVc8leA/видео.html Another one is a Firefly guitar. I don't own one of these but my friend owns a firefly. @@MetalGuitarGuy the narrow neck is precisely why I want to convert it haha. there have been a few guitars made with a 1.5" nut and that absolutely changed everything for me. It's kinda weird since I have baseball mit hands with sausage fingers, but I've also played a lot of mandolin, ukulele, banjo, etc over the years, so I guess thin necks jus feel like home. On this subject, I'm also considering converting a cheap p-bass copy that I've HEAVILY modified into a 5 string because I hate the string spacing...though I did already narrow that neck to around 1.59" which might just be pushing it too far haha. I definitely plan to find a 5 string with a narrow neck to convert into a 6 string. I really like the design of the Music Man John Myung, but I want it a bit more narrow, something like Les Claypool's fretted 6 string from the 90s. That thing can't be much more than a 1.68" guitar nut haha
@@MetalGuitarGuy also, i've been looking into firefly for awhile, they're one of those companies making absurdly good guitars for dirt cheap to get a firm foothold in the industry before spiking their prices. Grote seems to be the first one to do the price jump with models in the 400-600 range. There's still Leo Jaymes, Westcreek, CNZ, Bullfighter, IYV, Censtar, and so on trying to do the same. On the one hand, being extremely poor, it's a super exciting time to be into music, but on the other hand...not being a fan of slavery, it makes it feel more complicated haha. Anyway, my buddy has a Mikro as just a bass to have if anyone wants to play, and I've loved that thing for awhile, so I went with it instead. I also just like the idea of it being even shorter in scale lol
@@DrDizzleFrizzle well good luck with the conversion if you do do it. 🤞🏻 let me know how it turns out. I do think a reverse headstock would be really handy also for short scale bass/baritone guitar territory. That way you can use bigger sstrings without worrying if it will fit in the tuner on the low end…. Cause you know extra length and the strings taper down after a certain distance… but yeah, good luck. Bro!
Thanks for posting this video. It helped me a lot!
@@Doowopsid glad I could help.

@@MetalGuitarGuy thanks for the advice i want to eventually add some shielding to my bass in a year or two so i’ll keep it in mind
Would be a sick baritone guitar conversion
The only problem I could foresee with this idea it that the fretboard is actually narrower than a 6 string guitar’s fretboard. So it would have to be like a 5 string guitar and using individual String saddles, and cut a new nut…

Looks good. I did this on my schecter arch top but yours looks nicer. I need to buy a belt sander.
@@JD-vj4go yeah the belt sander helps a lot for mods like this… most of the sanding I did with the belt sander. Just so much faster…
Looks good man. I would personally stain it or paint it, but I'm sure over time the raw wood will stain itself with sweat, dirt and grit etc.
@@Ryan_Sens thank you! yeah I think if I do this on another guitar in the future, I will probably stain the wood after sanding it down. I did put sanding sealer and Satin top coat on the sanded area so that should protect the wood from my sweat… 🤔🤞🏻
Great work.
🤘🏻😎🤘🏻
Schecter PT has the same exact bridge as the LTD. Looks like all the same parts. I have the LTD version hanging on my wall and it came with a better setup, better frets and a more stable neck than the $900 Charvel Joe Duplantier signature I just filed a return on.
Thanks for the comment. If you look very closely at the bridges on the LTd TE-200DX and on the Schecter standard series PT, the bridge on the Schecter is clearly thicker. They are definitely a similar design but a little different. That is a bummer about the Charvel you tried out but cheers on the new LTD, I almost got one myself...
Ive had great fretwork on both brands.

Looks awesome! Got my Ibanez RGDMS8 This summer for a great price. I'd rather have the finish of yours, but I was mainly looking for a proper multiscale 8-string with fishman fluence pickups so I could not pass on the opportunity to snatch one on sale because of a minor scratch in the lacquer.
Yeah money definitely talks, its nice to find things on sale. I got this Legator for a discounted price, lucky me, even though there's nothing wrong with the finish... I'm gonna google your guitar now...

Why can’t brands like 10S and Agile be bothered to use the correct cutaway?
@@GuitarGuy4647 I don’t know, bro… 🤔
@@MetalGuitarGuy like, the cutaway alone won’t get them sued so long as the headstock is different which they are. It’s just always frustrated me since you can get extremely well spec’d, modern Agile LPs but I can’t get over the shape.
@@GuitarGuy4647 I used to obsess over cutaways and headstocks too… Honestly now I think most brands do a good job except Jackson’s Monarkh shape, the cutaway definitely looks weird… 🤔

@@MetalGuitarGuy bro it sounds like crap lol
what gauge are you using on the f on the 25.5"? this is a super useful video because i'd love to get down to g without having a baritone scale. thanks for making the guitars audible in the mix btw, a lot of youtubers are super frustrating because they'll say "i bet you can't tell the difference even though the settings and speaker are the same" then utterly and completely wash out and drown both tracks out with drums. it's fairly obvious which is which to me
@@Hyperlink1337 hey thanks! I used a 90 Gauge string. But I also had to have a bridge that would do the job. I recommend watching this video: ruclips.net/video/xQj3pFnN0h4/видео.htmlsi=G24TV-KvIsjGezZ4 Some people say the guitars are muddy lol I guess not everyone hears the same… I also had to file the nut slots to the correct sizes for the strings… I am going to do a full setup video in the future but in my experience the amount of string tension also determines how far back the Saddle needs to go…
@@MetalGuitarGuy clarity and intonation aren't huge dealbreakers to me, but if you're going to play more modern stuff then you'll probably run into people that are more used to low tuned guitars sounding totally gutted of their mids and low end
I'd like to have more 7-string guitars with 25 inch necks.
@@chocolatecookie8571 do you mean 25.5 inch scale necks?
@@MetalGuitarGuy no, 25. There are many 7 string guitars with 25.5 but very few with 25
@@chocolatecookie8571 Gotchya… I think that is cause most people prefer a longer scale length for 7 strings… I have seen a few 24.75 inch seven strings out there… 🤔
To my ear it's obvious, the baritone wins. It's the less muddy sounding in every comparison. I'm not entirely sure(1st listen, thru cell) you did the same switch pattern either
i can’t really tell the difference but i would say one guitar sounds a bit brighter than the other

Omg what a mode 🤘
Hello mate! Looks nice and they're well installed but you're supposed to stretch the string as far and as tight as you can and only then lock it in place. The principle of the locking tuners is to have as few wounds around the post to prevent movement, if you do it right you can just do a quarter or a half turn to get them in tune.
@@IronDeadPumpkin well more mass=more sustain. That’s how I did it with the previous locking tuners and this guitar has always stayed in tune really well for not having an evertune… 🤔… thank you for your comment though.
@@MetalGuitarGuy love your content man, but headless guitars have just way less mass and still sustain as long as a full body guitar
